It is good to see a friendly face, Captain, Witt responds. If they are somewhere reasonably private, Witt will brief her on what has happened, and their investigation of the house. We believe that we must follow the map to its destination, trap though it may be. We're worried to leave the house unguarded and not fully searched, but we cannot be in two places at once. Our request is first that you put a guard around the place, to ensure that no-one enters and tampers with evidence. But also, we cannot be certain that the villains did not leave any of their number in a part of the house we missed. It will be a dangerous assignment for your soldiers, I'm afraid.
Witt tells her of the evidence that they found that implicates Linthe (though he did not bring it along), but he avoids mentioning the involvement of Lynansera, only promising that they will bring the letters when they have a chance.
Captain Anastasia listens carefully to what Witt has to report to her. She had moved the conversation to a small room within the castle once Witt made it clear privacy would be preferred."Unfortunately Konor is not anywhere in the Castle right now. I can't tell you where he went, but let's just say it has something to do with this investigation. I appreciate you bringing me this information, however. As well as warning us about the dangers involved. I can promise you we'll be sending guards to investigate this house soon. From the sound of it, we may require bringing a cleric with us. I hope to see you and your friends soon so you can bring us this evidence you've discovered."
Sora stares back at Kal thoughtfully for some time before responding. "Honestly if it were up to me, I'd want to chase her down for a long ******* time. ... But if she really has escaped it might not be that simple. Best we can do for now is go with what we know so far. Investigate this place and hope we get lucky. If she's not there, well at least we'll know she fled elsewhere."
When Witt returns she greets him in turn, "That's great news. Guess it's time to head out soon. I'm ready to go when ever you all are." She looks to the rest of the group to see if everyone else is ready, "Unless any of you need to do anything before we leave."
Nemeia smiles when Witt enters. She's always had a soft spot for him and was glad that he was able to make it back safely. "I'm ready whenever the rest of you all are. Cali is all set as well"
Before they leave, 9 approaches Gus, “Hey Gus. Do you know anyone who could identify this dagger for me?”, she twirls the dagger in her hand and puts it on the table.
I'm ready too,Witt says quietly, worrying about a million things but also looking forward to the long walk through the countryside and just generally not being in the city. He waits as 9 speaks with Gus, and then heads out with the rest of the party.
Gus would recommend a nice little arcane shop to 9 on the other side of the Merchant district. Nemeia would recognize this as belonging to Kriniana, the gnome Artificer she had spoken to previously.
Should the group head out to the site marked on the parchment they discovered, they would quickly realize the map leads to a cave outside of the city walls. The best path to reach it causes them to travel out the front gate of town then head east along the walls before splitting off at the base of the mountain and up into a rocky pass. It would be difficult to find this cave without the map.
If you want to head off to get any items identified let me know, otherwise if you head off to the ritual site, I'll need someone to roll a Survival check to see how long it takes you to reach the cave on the map.
The trek up the mountains to the ritual site marked on the map proved to be more difficult then you anticipated. There was no proper trail to follow and so the group had to navigate across treacherous uneven ground moving slowly to avoid serious injury or even falling. It was already getting dark by the time you began to see the cave entrance before you.
It was dark and there was no hiding a sense of foreboding that emanated from within. The entrance was little more then five feet across, hidden within the shade of the large rocks and boulders that made up the side of this mountain.
Let me know what you'd like to do now. Keep in mind the entrance is only big enough to let you enter one at a time so you'll need to decide on a marching order.
"That's ok, Witt, don't be hard on yourself." Sora encouraged the halfling as she stepped forward peering into the dark cave, "If this place was easy to get to then it wouldn't be a very good secret hideout." She would begin examining the entrance for possible traps or ambushes waiting within. "Anyone here able to sense magic? I don't imagine our favorite resident psychopath wouldn't want to put down more traps to protect her secrets here as well."
Perception check to spot possible traps or ambushes up to 60' within the cave - 13
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Magic? Not unless it is actively working against me. But I'm quite comfortable taking the lead here...quietly. If no one wants to further check for traps." Kal offers and begins into the mouth of the cave. He hesitates a moment looking back at the assembled party, mostly waiting for a visual queue that they were comfortable with proceeding.
"Hold on a second," Sora motions to Kal to get him to stop from going inside the cave before her, "Maybe, just in case, I should go in first? If there are any traps I have a better chance of surviving whatever's there. Better me then the folks I'm relying to save my ass if this explodes in my face."
Go ahead, but not too far. I'll stick with you. Witt looks apprehensively at the darkness and casts Light on his bow, which he draws and keeps in his hand.
"Sounds like a plan." Sora agrees with Witt as she nods to Kal. Should no one stop her, she steps into the cave first. "Follow behind me but not too close in case we run into something nasty."

Witt nods, politely thanks the Captain and heads back to find the others.
I told Captain Anastasia. I think she'll take it seriously. How are you all feeling? Ready to head out?

I guess Witt's Survival is not too shabby, so he will do his best to follow the map and reach the cave: 8 (9 if with advantage)
( Sora will definitely be helping out to give advantage. If that helps... )

That wasn't great, sorry folks, Witt says. Still, we got here in the end eh?
Feeling a bit rubbish, and given his halfling eyes, he's going to go at the back.
