Adventures in Esyldien - Campaign Thread

9 grunts as she observes this cacophony of an encounter. She pulls her shortbow as the robed was speaking, amd raises an eyebrow at his disappearance in the mist. She curses under her breath, stepping onto the platform and pulling th string on her shortbow aiming at the bullywug leader.

Attack: 13 Damage: 9

9 takes aim and lets loose her arrow, but the bullywug leader is shorter then she looks, and the hulking monstrosity before her is getting in the way. The arrow drifts past its intended target, just failing to make contact with anything but the stone floor.

Witt's Turn

Witt backs away, determined to help by staying out of trouble; he recalls being surrounded by bullywugs in the last fight, and feeling like that was something he doesn't want to repeat.  He moves 10 feet back and then shoots at the foolish bullywug leader who left her people to die:

Attack: 15 Damage: 9

Witt's arrow follows in much the same path as 9's did as they both shoot at the same target, however Witt's attack manages to angle just in the right direction and lands against the leader's flesh. The arrow digs deep as the robbed bullywug cries out from the pain. 

Leader's Turn:

In direct response to Witt's attack, the bullywug pulls the arrow from from her body. She mutters a strange series of words in her bullywug language while covering the wound, causing it to give off a bit of a dull green glow. It's hard to see through her robed the exact effect but it's not difficult to assume her wound is not longer quite as bad. Glaring back at the party, she strikes the ground at her feet with her staff and calls out a quick word, causing a sickly green light in an almost smokey pattern begin to twirl around her staff. As she prepares for more battle she keeps barking orders at the other bullywugs while shifting over a bit to stand behind the massive ogre creature next to her in the hopes of providing some sense of protection.

Sora's Turn

Seeing the dangers around them, Sora spares only the briefest moments to try to figure out the best tactics for their current predicament. She had to protect the others long enough for them to get the job done, and there was one really big threat in front of them right now.

"Take out the leader fast!" She yells at the rest of the group as she charges forward, "I'll keep the big guy busy!"

Running forward as fast as she can she slams against the big monstrosity hitting it as hard and as fast as she can. If nothing else she wants to make damn sure she'd got that things attention.

(Full movement to reach the big guy. Then using action, bonus, AND surge to keep hitting him hard.)

Main Attack: 7 Damage: 6

Bonus Attack: 23 Damage: 14

Action Surge Attack: 20 Damage: 13

Sora completely unloads on the massive creature in the middle of the stone platform, strike after vicious strike. Surprisingly all her blows land, but most do nothing at all. It feels like hitting solid stone, the creature's skin is so tough and hard it might as well be armor. Only one strike seemed to do anything at all, and even that the monster simply shrugged off without issue. At the very least, however, it does seem like Sora has its attention for the moment.

Moira's turn

Moira

Hearing Sora's words Moira breaks to the left looking for cover if she can find it. As she runs she looks first to her brave friend who ran headfirst at that monster and sends Rusty to Help her. Sora suddenly feels a weight on her back and sees a flash of red fur out of the corner of her eye all accompanied by the faint smell of sulfur. Then looking to the Bullywug leader Moira draws the shadows around her.

Moira

Action - call Rusty back onto Sora's back

Bonus action - Move Hex to the leader disadvantage on strength

Move - 30' left to cover if possible.

Rusty

Action - ready help for just before Sora attacks.

At Moira's command, the fiendish shadows slither towards the bullywug leader, slipping up and wrapping themselves around her. Moira manages to find a fallen log to duck behind as her loyal familiar rushes forward to assist Sora. 

Nemeia's Turn

Nemeia looks on in shock at the creature and the bullywugs. She never expected herself to be in this type of situation but she need to do her best to save the town, and more importantly, her companions.

She twists the crossbow's stock a quarter turn as fire ignites through the veins in the wood. She does her best to aim at the leader behind the creature. 

Attack: 13 Damage: 9

Bonus action: Arcane weapon on my crossbow. Action: Attack with crossbow. Cali moves to attempt to flank the creature with Sora though she can't attack this turn since I spent my bonus action. Cali takes the dodge action. 

The bolt alight in magical flame streaks toward its target, trying to shoot around the massive creature between Nemeia and the bullywug leader. Unfortunately the bullywug target sees the attack coming and manages to leap to one side behind the giant ogre ally, letting the flaming bolt streak by where she was standing a moment ago.

Bullywug Turn:

The rest of the bullywugs do not sit idly by either, rushing forward to attack under the command of their leader they charge into the fray. One moves up to Cali, another up to Sora, and the third runs all the way next to 9. Each of them thrusting at their targets with both hands on their jagged crude spears.

Attack on Cali: 19 Damage: 6

Attack on Sora: 6 Damage: 3

Attack on 9: 21 Damage: 9

Despite its defensive posture, the bullywug charging Cali manages to jam the spear into her haunch, likewise the bullywug rushing 9 is able to drive the vicious spear tip past her armor and into flesh. By contrast the bullywug charging Sora is not able to land any blow against her.

Carrion Ogre Turn:

The massive monstrosity itself is not one to be left out as it moves its rage filled eerie gaze to the human that attacked it. Swinging a massive tree trunk of an arm across to slam against Sora. However Cali was already at its side, slamming against it as it attacked. It wasn't enough to really do much against the massive creature, but it did distract it enough to make it easier for Sora to avoid the deadly blow.

Attack on Sora: 20 Damage: 9

Despite the assistance, the massive arm finds it difficult to miss the human before it slamming into Sora's side as she does her best to absorb the blow.

9's Turn

As a reaction, 9 will invoke Wrath of the Storms, pushing a loud crackling noice towards the bullywug, dc 14 dex save, 9 thunder, half on a success. She then snaps her whip at him, and moves around him staying within 5 feet. She glances at Sora gritting her teeth, and hoping to get there quick enough to help out. Attack: 17 Damage: 8 if it moves additional 6 thunder. If the bullywug dies she moves further to help Sora 

Bullywug Dex Save: 9

A loud crack of lightning and roaring boom of thunder erupt from 9 as Deaths own retribution assaults the Bullywug before her. The raging storm accompanying the end of her whip as she lashes out against her attacker. The bullywug is nearly rendered to a pulp from the power of the divine storm that slams against him. His body is still twitching as it falls to the floor, though that is more likely due to the residue of power that coursed through its body.

With the foe down 9 is easily able to run forward to assist her ally.

Witt's Turn

Witt stays where he is; Let me know if you need a hand, he says, but doesn't see any of his friends close to falling, so he takes aim with his shortbow at the massive horrible creature and tries to do some damage to it.

Attack: 25 Damage: 9

Witt's arrow easily strikes the massive form of the ogre creature before them, indeed it seemed harder to miss the large monster. However, the ogre didn't seem to care about the arrow's damage, not even flinching when the sharp tip dug into its shoulder.

Bullywug Leader:

Meanwhile the leader of the bullywugs glared angrily at the party as she spat out orders at the other bullywugs, pointing and screaming in their own language. As she made sure to remain behind the massive orge she reached up and touched its massive form, causing more of the sickly green glow of her powers to rise from her hands. The swamp-like energy wrapped around the huge monster's wounds slowly closing them even as the creature continued to fight.

Sora's Turn

"Focus on the Leader!" Sora bellowed loudly as she battled the monster in front of her, "I got this guy. Take her out first!" She continued moving back and forth as she was attacked from two sides. She cast a quick side glance at 9, hoping to convince her with her stern look to follow her words. However she had to focus on the fight first if she hoped to stay alive. She ran to the side, not caring if she left an opening to the bullywug next to her. His little pointed stick was not a concern for her even if it hit. It was better for her to get into position now that Cali was helping the fight. Once she was in place to where it was harder for the ogre to defend against her attacks, she unleashed another assault, hoping to keep its attention on her alone.

Main Attack: 13 Damage: 11

Bonus Attack: 26 Damage: 23

Bullywug Opportunity Attack: 18 Damage: Unable to parse dice roll.

The bullywug next to Sora takes advantage of the opening provided as it jams its spear forward. The jab hits true but it barely manages to push past the skin as Sora moves away from the attack, causing minimal damage as a result. In the end the gamble paid off as Sora's vicious attacks dig huge gaping wounds into the flesh of the monstrosity before her. The creature screams a nasty gurgling other-worldly screech of pain from the wounds it received. Clearly hurt, but not yet done by any means.

Moira's Turn

Moira

Hearing Sora call for them to attack the leader once more she mentally instructs Rusty to go distract them instead. Rusy jumps down from Sora's back and runs over to the lead Bullywug rolling over looking like he wants tummy rubs. Seeing her look down at the adorable display, "Sicigam Enoitaripsni", Moira releases a blast of energy.

Attack: 23 Damage: 5 force and Unable to parse dice roll. necrotic

The magical energy from Moira's spell hits the leader hard in the face as she was distracted by the strange red furry creature at her feet. The blast hits harder then she could have anticipated, and she buckles to one knee struggling to get back to her feet. Holding onto her staff with a quivering uncertain grip, as if that's the only thing keeping her upright at the moment. She looks seriously injured now, barely hanging on to life, as blood drips from her face.

Nemeia's Turn

Nemeia nods in agreement as she keeps her focus on the leader, letting another bolt fly at the bullywug. The arcane energy launches from the crossbow with a streak of fire behind it. Nemeia then yells "bite it!" to Cali. 

Attack: 10 Damage: 16

Cali feeling rather trapped in her spot, attempts to bite into the monstrosity that's attacking Sora. 

Attack: 15 Damage: 3
