Grabbing one of the jerky pieces for the pup, Victoria hesitates when the bartender calls their money trinkets and starts to worry that may be her coin isn't currency here. " Sorry pup, may have to wait a bit. You do need a name however." Victoria thinks on it for a minute.
The group is more then welcome to help name the pup as well.
Ankor raises an eyebrow at Winthrop calling the silver pieces trinkets. "How does one pay for goods here? This is our currency." Looking at the others to see if they are as surprised by this statement seeing Zack looking perplexed and a little worried. Ankor then looks around to the other patrons sitting at tables and any that may be at the bar, seeing if they have any form of currency out on the tables. or even if they are all just staring at the group.
Perception : 5 (disadvantage from exhaustion still)
Tefkae's question about crime and what these people have found in the mists brings Ankors attention back to the table.
also Ankor does not drink any of the ale until he is able to provide some payment.

Zack also doesn't drink any ale but that isn't because he can't pay. It's because alcohol makes him ill. Following Ankor's lead he also scans the bar for hints at what the other patrons are using to pay for their drinks. Perception: 22
He doesn't get too much time to look at the other patrons as Tefkae's question interests him more.
"Pay? Current see?" Winthrop asks, seemingly missing a point. "Not sure what you're talking about, but it's the tavern owner's job to provide hospitality for all the hard workers and any travellers that enter through their doors." He says with a proudness behind his words. "'Tis the first time I've ever had the honour of hosting for a traveller, so you are welcome to more until your thirst is curbed." He looks to Tefkae. "Hmm, that 'criminal' word is an archaic term, so I think the mayor knows more about them. My job is to keep the brewing stocks at a good level and make sure the rest of the village is happy with their time here." WInthrop then takes out a piece of jerky from his overalls and passes it over to the pup, which scoffs it down swiftly. "Blimey! That cat-thing eats those down faster than ours find mice." He comments. "Does it have a name?"
"yea his name is...Sailor. Since we found him while on the ship on the other side. However, he's not a cat he is a dog." Victoria gives Sailor a little pet on his head. She is pleased to know that she can drink till she's full and gives Sailor another piece of food since he still looks malnourished.
Zack nods at the bartenders words and mutters, "Very Interesting." He hurriedly takes out his red book again and continues to write down more stuff. Unlike his beige doodling book, he seems to be more weary of people peeking at this red book.
"Well, excuse me." Captain Obaysch interjects back into the conversation. "I believe you did not answer my question about your smoke powder stores."
"Oh, right..." Winthrop takes his attention from Sailor and looks over to the giff, a little wary of his strange appearance. "To be honest, I'm not sure what that is either."
"Bah!"Obaysch reaches for his pipe again."Oh, confound it all!" He states to himself in disbelief. "Do you at least have matches we may requisition?"
"Ah, smoking is something that people do here." Winthrop mentions jovially. "I used to smoke the pipe back in my youth. Yes, I should have some matches in my kitchen, I will be back soon." He then proceeds to make his way through a doorway beside the bar.
Sailor happily scoffs down the additional food from Victoria, coughing a little as it eats too fast, his tail wags as he seems to be looking a little more active now. He cuddles up to her bosom, happily enjoying the food and attention.
(OOC: For reference, people can only note that the books Zack takes out are a different shade on the grey scale, this new book being a slightly darker hue.)
(I'm happy for Zack to know which book is which from familiarity etc. quite easily, just noting to the others it isn't as obvious to them in this place.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
The fact that Zack appeared more exceptionally wary is enough for Tefkae to grow more interested in what lie within the next book's pages. Thus, after having her question answered, dutifully marking it mentally as a point to bring up with the mayor, the warforged tried again to summon Mr. Pepper from its pocket dimension to behind her. While he flew onto the table to start prancing around and attract some attention to one end, she tries to sneakily peek over Zack's shoulder into the next book.
Ankor, thanks Winthrop for the hospitality and in one swig downs the tankard of ale. Still feeling the effects of the exhaustion he sits slightly slummed into his chair, trying best he can to rest even with parts of his armor removed. He feels sluggish. Maybe it's the muted colors all the different shades of grey that has him feeling this way.
"Sailor... I'd say that's a fitting name for that little pup Lady Victoria."

Zack's Perception to catch Tefkae trying to look: 18
Perhaps it was his wizard training or maybe he just didn't care enough, he doesn't spare more than a passing glance at Mr.Pepper and stays on high alert. He spots Tefkae trying to sneak a peek. He makes a cough and puts his book away.
"Never better!" The captain proclaims, reaching for the tankard and downing the contents in one go. "Though I will feel at best once we locate a storehouse and repaired our vessel. Until then, I suppose accept the hospitality and wait for our audience with this mayor."
Eight-Bit seems to start pattering off towards another door within the room, it appears like it might be a closet.
(If anyone needs a short rest for whatever reason, spending hit dice, etc. then feel free to.)
(Exhaustion rules below, they are recovered during a long rest.)
Exhaustion
Some special abilities and environmental hazards, such as starvation and the long-term effects of freezing or scorching temperatures, can lead to a special condition called exhaustion. Exhaustion is measured in six levels. An effect can give a creature one or more levels of exhaustion, as specified in the effect's description.
Level
Effect
1
Disadvantage on ability checks
2
Speed halved
3
Disadvantage on attack rolls and saving throws
4
Hit point maximum halved
5
Speed reduced to 0
6
Death
If an already exhausted creature suffers another effect that causes exhaustion, its current level of exhaustion increases by the amount specified in the effect's description.
A creature suffers the effect of its current level of exhaustion as well as all lower levels. For example, a creature suffering level 2 exhaustion has its speed halved and has disadvantage on ability checks.
An effect that removes exhaustion reduces its level as specified in the effect's description, with all exhaustion effects ending if a creature's exhaustion level is reduced below 1.
Finishing a long rest reduces a creature's exhaustion level by 1, provided that the creature has also ingested some food and drink. Also, being raised from the dead reduces a creature’s exhaustion level by 1.
Zack packs up his books and goes outside for some fresh air. He doesn't go far, he stands near the tavern since he is unfamiliar with the village. The smell of ale was getting to be a bit too much for him so he stands near the tavern gate under the black and white night sky. He reflects on his situation a bit. His overall situation is not ideal by any stretch of the imagination. He was happily studying magic at his desk but then he was on a ship in the Astral Sea for some reason. He had acid spat on him by ooze raptors, almost had the ship destroyed by a giant sea-monster and now he is in this strange unknown land with people who have never heard of elves or half-elves with a bunch of other people who met not too long ago. Any sane person would be concerned with their present situation and what is going to happen to them in the near future; Zack was no different. However, there was something else. Zack also felt a strange giddiness and excitement. Perhaps it was because the situation was so similar to the books he read or it could have also been the adrenaline but regardless, he also can't deny that he felt a strange kind of excitement. He sighed and involuntarily smiled as he thought of the hero of one of his stories who got ran over by a carriage and ended up in a world of giant metal ships sailing the astral sea and swords made of light.
Ankor hails for another drink and asks Winthrop for any food that is available. Realizing after downing that first drink he hasn't had anything to eat since he awoke on the ship, booze on an empty stomach always led to bad decisions. Seeing Zack pack his books and step outside after Mr. Pepper tries taking a look at his books.
"Don't go to far Zack but report back anything that looks out of place, I say we eat and see about this mayor straight away. doesn't look like we are going to get any answers just sitting around here, and the good captain brings up a valid point, we should search out a supply store here." Ankor looking down at the silver coin on the table picking one up between his forefinger and thumb, "But we may need to barter a little differently around here if these are no good." Ankor sorta rethinks what he asked of Zack as he steps outside the door. 'out of place, hell this whole place is just wrong he could write a whole nother book based off this place'

Winthrop reappears a moment later holding a shabby matchbox. "There's a half dozen left in there." He tells Captain Obaysch as he hands them over.
"Ah, excellent! Finally, things are looking up." The giff captain chortles as he holds his pipe out and takes out some dried leaves to stick into his smoking implement.

Zack:
Zack wanders outside to find the town is just like it appeared when he arrived. There is the sound of cattle, albeit they are not within sight at this moment. Looking about he notes a pair of cats lounging on the sloped roof of the tavern. They look back down at Zack lazily before returning their attention to the general town.
"Look mummy!" An excited child's voice comes from the mists. "It's a person!"" "No, child." A woman's tone replies, sounding disappointed. "Just another lost soul."
Looking around, there appears to be no source to those voices. He then hears heavy armoured footsteps as appearing through the mists are six men in chainmail carrying spears and crossbows. They have tabards that are a plain grey, bearing no heraldry or emblems. Alongside them Zack notes that Hainish appears to be accompanying them.
