Zack slips back into the Tavern and speed walks to the party, coughing from the smell of ale and smoke. He says, "Guys, we have 6 armed men in chain mail coming here. Hainish is with them." Continuing to cough, he makes his way to the back of the party.
Victoria grabs a jerky for herself this time. She smiles when the Captain finally has his matchs. When Zack leaves she wonders if he's ok. However, she's just glad to not be getting attacked by weird blob monsters. This world seems off to her, but the people are friendly. So maybe there isn't anything to worry about.
Then Zack comes back looking troubled. "Seriously?!? Normally, that would mean bad news, but this place is very different. Maybe it's just a precaution for them, since we are the strangers here. What should we do?" She asks everyone
"Sounds like the mayor's sent the militia to escort you." Winthrop says with a brighter tone. "The mayor must be excited to meet travellers, it's probably to ensure you arrive safely."
As Victoria takes a piece of jerky for herself, she finds Sailor scrabbling to try and snatch the food before she can finish it, but it fails to do so.
Captain Obaysch takes one of the matches and strikes it against the side of the box. "Ah, a wonderful sight, though I do prefer a reddish glow normally." He says as the greyish hue of the flame emits a minor illumination. He begins to ignite the contents of his pipe. "I think a smoke whilst travelling is a capital idea."
There is a clunking and banging noise that comes from the closet. A few seconds later Eight-Bit returns, a bucket on its head, but with a fresh mop. Winthrop chuckles, "The outhouse is that way." He tells the modron, pointing to the door that leads towards the back of the establishment.
After Zack comes back in and reports what he saw to the group. "Well, I guess the meal is going to have to wait" turning his attention to Winthrop "Any time there is an armed escort it's usually for someone else's protection, not those being escorted in my experience"Ankor stands and starts to put his armor back on to prepare to meet with the mayor.

Ever since being rebuffed, Tefkae has had nothing but eyes for Zack. So when he packed up his books to step aside, mechanical eyes stayed unsettingly focused on the wizard up until the end. Then with a final glance to Mr. Pepper, seeming almost to exchange something silently, their attention turns to the remainder of the party in silent observation of any conversation. Mr. Pepper flies off to find a window to the outside world not too long after Zack, and onto the rooftop. Whereas Zack sought a breather in peace, the Tressym kept up their head on a swivel from their perch, searching for any sign of trouble.
He remains even as armored warriors begin to approach, but ducks down to make himself at least a little less noticeable. Meanwhile...

On cue the door to the tavern opens again. Stepping into the room is Hainish and six other individuals. Just as Zack mentioned, they are wearing chain mail and carry crossbows and spears. Their tabards are plain and kept neat.
"The mayor would like to meet with you." One of the guards says with a wary, yet friendly tone. "He asked us to escort you there, hopefully if you're with the guard then the locals won't worry."
Winthrop rubs a bit of dirt from his eye. "Well, folks, 'twas nice to have new patrons. You feel free to come back when you're done with the mayor."
Captain Obaysch gets to his feet, the stool groaning in relief from the heavy giff's weight. "Number One, stand to attention." He tells Eight-Bit. "We have a diplomatic mission ahead." The modron walks over with its new mop, looking much happier than it did a few minutes ago.
(Is there anything the group would like to do before going with the guards? Just checking for pacing as I can just move onto travelling through the town to the mayor's house otherwise.)
Zack had his backpack with him so there wasn't much that he had to do. The sooner he'd exit the tavern, the better. He looks back at the table to make sure he didn't forget anything, opens his backpack to do a swift inventory check (doesn't take more than a turn because it's swift) and gets ready to head out after securing the backpack back on to his back.
Ankor finishes adjusting his armor, securing his shield and sword and making sure his pouches and satchels are in their correct places. Looking to the rest of the group gathering their things, he reaches into a small satchel on his side and pulls out some leather strips, they are about 4ft long and resemble belts with notched holes and a metal peg fashioned to one end. "Lady Victoria if I may" he gestures towards the pup and creates a loop in the belt and slides it over the pups' head and hands the other end back to Victoria. "Here that should keep sailor from getting lost again." Although his big size and somewhat intimidating presence Ankor may have a soft spot for animals

Sailor yaps a few times as Ankor approaches with the leather strap, but doesn't seem to resist the application of a leash. Sailor gives Ankor's hand a quick lick as he places the leather strap over the pup's head.
"We could do with going, we wouldn't want to keep the mayor waiting." The guard mentions to the group, now that everyone has buckled their equipment and accoutrements. "Oh, it's also bad manners to take your weapons into the mayor's office, so would you be alright leaving them on a table outside when we get there?"
(Will give a bit more time for the others to respond for moving on.)
It's hard to tell given the lack of expression (or even really a visible face beyond the visor aside from glowing pits for eyes), but Tefkae gives Ankhor and the rest an almost pointed look. "Presumably. If this request is heeded, of course. Am I allowed to leave a guardian to watch over our equipment?" The warforged requests of the main speaker of the guard. "Does your cat... have wings?" One of the guards asks. "And what about that one?" Pointing at Sailor. "Easy," Another guard says. "They're travellers, who knows what their cats are like there." The guard then looks to Tefkae. "The cat can wait with your belongings if you'd like, it'll just be on a table."
Following out and into the street the group finds themselves wandering through the quaint village ahead. They see what appears to be a humble chapel with a small field fenced off, what seems to be a general store, another larger building where the scents of a strong broth emanates from within, as well as a smithy amongst the normal houses. As they travel through, they see many drably dressed human folk, as well as a couple of halflings, who watch from at least ten feet away. The guards stand around the group, two at the front, two on either side, and two at the rear.
After a couple of minutes of wandering through there is a group of human children that rush out into the street and stagger to a stop as they see the group and the guards. They scream and rush off into a side street. "Monster-men! Monster-men!" They call out, half-scared, half-excited. "Don't mind the children." One of the guards walking alongside the group mentions. "They probably haven't been told the stories about travellers yet."
Ahead the group can see that there is a shallow hill towards the rear of the town. To one side, there appears to be a series of the lanterns covering a field, where many livestock appear to be kept behind short stone walls. Upon the hill there is a more ornate and large house, three stories tall and with long windows and small shrubberies well kept outside. "This is the mayor's estate." The guard explains. "Come on, we should go and introduce yourselves to the mayor."
(Spoiler for an idea of what the mayor's house looks like, just more monochrome. No tower in the background, just the manor house.)
(OOC: Where is that house from? It looks familiar. Is it from MTG/Ravnica or something?)
Zack may be good at talking through things but that doesn't mean he's comfortable doing it. He will stay at the back of the party and enter last. However, he doesn't exactly trust the situation the party is in so he will keep a constant alert for any lies that people might say.

Zack can feel there is something slightly off with this town. While the guards are genuinely trying to be friendly to strangers and are wholehearted in their belief that the mayor is nice, the villagers seemed a little more fearful of the group as they wandered through, if the children being frightened wasn't obvious enough. He also realises that he hasn't seen where the grow the hops or a vineyard yet, or a mill to make flour for the bread that Winthrop offered the group before they had to leave. There's probably more of the village that they haven't been shown yet, the mists blocking full view of the village, as the lanterns only repel the mists so far...

Ankor chuckles as the children run off, "Feels like any other town to me" As the group walks along the street to the mayor's house, Ankor takes note of the guards around them, any weapons they may have, the general stature of each, sizing each one up in case things get physical. knowing he is going to have to surrender his own sword at the door.

Straying near to the back of the group as well, Tefkae appeared at least less taken in with the scenery itself the second time through, and more so in the children; affixing them with an unabating and unnerving gaze so long as they remained within eye shot of the warforged. Mr. Pepper, on the otherhand, keeps an eye on Zack throughout as it rested upon a warforged shoulder. "Unsurprising. You are big, and many you would meet are very, very small. It is a wonder you have decided to leave whatever amounted to home for your people." Tefkae said without looking away from their quarry. But seeing others slow eventually, they turn about to size up the mayor's house.

Zack looks up at the big manor. Something doesn't feel right. He always had a semi-sixth sense when it came to bad things happening (Mechanically, call it the 18 Passive Insight) and he was feeling weird about the town. He didn't have any problem of auditory hallucinations so he was concerned about the voices he heard when he was standing outside the tavern. He didn't tell anyone else about it though since he himself isn't exactly sure what it meant but it kept him a bit on edge. The fact that Tefkae and her familiar was keeping an eye on him made him feel a bit awkward.
To Zack, a lot of this town didn't make sense. It was one thing the people of this world didn't see Elves, goliaths or even dogs before but how is it that a society can grow this much and yet not have currency? Do the farmers just give their hard earned stuff to the rest of the town in good-will? Does the rest of the town just pay the farmer back with things like clothing and furniture? Does the whole town work on a form of honor-system? He makes a mental note to hang around a shop after their meet up with the mayor to see just how things work. Maybe he'd even ask Tefkae to accompany him since Warforged were always a subject of interest in his studies.
For now, he remains quiet and keeps on alert. He will keep an eye out for sudden ambushes or traps. Perception: 15
The town seems to be of a decent size, the houses looking big enough to house maybe families of four in moderate comfort. The streets, however, seem quite sparse. There isn't the things one would expect around the street, like discarded straw or boxes, and the amount of children seen has been few. In fact, there hasn't been a site of a person with a baby around either. It might just be coincidence, they're keeping their babies away from the "travellers", or something else.
"Who, the mayor?" One of the guards says. "The mayor is our leader. The mayor is a wonderful guide and keeps the town running." "The mayor helps us when we have problems, very smart, and wise too." Another guard points out, the other guards mumbling in agreement.
One of the guards at the front of the group opens the large double doors to the mayor's estate. upon arriving in, there is a grand looking foyer ahead, much finer looking than that of the exterior of the other buildings seen up until now in this village. The room is set out with a pair of staircases leading up to a short balcony, a pair of double doors where the two meet. A grand chandelier seemingly made of metal is suspended from the ceiling, with two dozen candles illuminating the room. On the ground floor there appears to be four doorways, two to the immediate left and right, and two more beneath the two staircases. At the back of the room is a glass case that contains a pair of longswords in scabbards held in place upon a weapons rack.
On the walls of the room, following the stairs up, are several works of art. Of the eight framed paintings, four have detailed depictions cats, lounging on furniture. Another is a depiction of the mayor's estate, the two at the bottom of the staircases have a portraits of humans, one a man in his thirties with a well kept waxed moustache and shoulder-length straight hair while the other is a woman with light hair that flows long with a flower hair clip keeping it from obscuring her pristine face. The final picture is of what appears to be a paladin upon a warhorse, holding a shining blade up with a beam of light piercing through a series of storm clouds.
"This way." The guard gestures to one of the staircases that leads up to the balcony. "The mayor's office is up these stairs. There's an antechamber to leave your weapons and excess belongings through here." Two of the guards wait at the doorway, making sure to wipe their feet on a straw mat at the entrance.
Upon passing through the doors up on the balcony, the antechamber is better described as a corridor. It appears to stretch forward some thirty feet or so with a woolen rug lining down its length, upon which are floral patterns. A lone set of double doors lead out of the corridor on the right hand side, half way along the wall. At the end of the corridor is a dark wood desk with a glossy polished sheen to it, the place assumed to put your weapons and other items. Flanking the double doors are two armour stands, but rather than a suit of full plate which would be expected on them it appears to be shabby pieces of what could be described as old parts of beings that have a semblance to Tefkae, the armour stand working like a wooden skeleton within to keep them in position.
Zack:
It is fairly obvious that the guards think positively of their mayor, but seemingly not wanting to discuss too much to a group of strangers outright. There is obviously also a difference in comfort for the mayor and the others you have witnessed before. The villagers dress modestly and the guards don't have anything on their tabards showing higher stations.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
The two armor stands immediately catch Zack's attention. He will get as close to them as he is allowed and spend as much time as he has until the party heads in to meet the mayor to try and gleam any information he can from the details. He will throw a glance at Tefkae and if she's not busy doing anything, he'll ask her to take a look at the armor stands. "Do you have any idea what these things might be from? Golems perhaps? Ancient Warforged?"
