Deciding not to disturb the scholar from their slumber, the group heads over to the mayor's estate. It is not far from where they currently are, and the door is initially barred. Upon knocking, there is a moment of waiting before a strained voice of presumably the maid moving the bar from behind the door. After another twenty seconds or so, the door opens, showing the wrinkled face of the human maid, Miss Fygg.
"Oh, goodness." She seems startled at first, then realises who it is. "It is you folk again. Are you here to see the mayor again? He usually doesn't get visitors at this hour, but I can see if the mayor is decent. You can wait in the foyer if you'd like."
(Spoiler with previous description of the foyer)
The room is set out with a pair of staircases leading up to a short balcony, a pair of double doors where the two meet. A grand chandelier seemingly made of metal is suspended from the ceiling, with two dozen candles illuminating the room. On the ground floor there appears to be four doorways, two to the immediate left and right, and two more beneath the two staircases. At the back of the room is a glass case that contains a pair of longswords in scabbards held in place upon a weapons rack.
On the walls of the room, following the stairs up, are several works of art. Of the eight framed paintings, four have detailed depictions cats, lounging on furniture. Another is a depiction of the mayor's estate, the two at the bottom of the staircases have a portraits of humans, one a man in his thirties with a well kept waxed moustache and shoulder-length straight hair while the other is a woman with light hair that flows long with a flower hair clip keeping it from obscuring her pristine face. The final picture is of what appears to be a paladin upon a warhorse, holding a shining blade up with a beam of light piercing through a series of storm clouds.
"It feels almost as if everyone is 'busy' at this hour."Tefkae comments on, and if the door happened to open wide enough at the time, briskly makes their way inside the foyer. If not, they simply state, "Waiting in the foyer is acceptable. If questioned on why we are here, you may tell him it is to conclude previous business somewhat interrupted by the attack yesterday."Meanwhile, Mr. Pepper lands atop the Mayor's roof, or tries to with the intent to wait and keep watch. Though any other cats he finds or sees during that time immediately garner most of his attention.

"Hello?" Miss Fygg's voice calls from the balcony. "The mayor is happy to see you now." She says. "Would any of you like a drink?"
Returning up and towards the mayor's office, the repeated request of leaving weapons on the table outside is made before they can enter the office. Once again, the mayor and the two cats are in the room. The cats seemingly finding a shelf to splay themselves on, keeping a wary eye on Sailor as the group arrives. "I believe there is more you wish to discuss, travellers." The mayor says. "The captain mentioned your invaluable aid in defeating that which was attacking out town; you have my thanks for that. Perhaps if you did not arrive a number of lives would be lost in the mists."
Tefkae refused any beverages as always, but did is at least less curt about it the second time around. They also didn't put up as much of a fuss about leaving weapons and gear behind. However, a silent call goes to Mr. Pepper to keep on the lookout for anyone suspicious leaving the building with something they should not have in hand.
"Unless this realm revives the dead upon their falling, there is no 'perhaps' about it. But, the thank you is appreciated, and if it should occur again, hopefully we are in a position to assist as such a time."They promptly mention, standing a little straighter on the spot. "May such prove unnecessary in the future. More importantly, as we have no intention of staying for overlong, we were discussing a trade of services last we met. Something your people here seem to be unfamiliar with. There is more else well." They state, then look to the others with an expectant air about them now.

"God?" The mayor says. "The guards of our town take an oath to guard the fair folk that live here, risking their lives every day. The guiding light that can penetrate the mists is their basis of morale, but their power comes from their determination and training. If you wish to speak about faith, then go bother the priest, my role is to govern the town and ensure its survival, not speak of theoretical reasons as to why we are here."
Determination as a source of holy power? The mayor's words interests Zack. He makes a mental note to talk to the guard captain at some point regarding how they train. Perhaps it could give Zack an insight into the topic of his interest.
"A similiar belief system as my home, though for more variable reasons. Be that as it may, you have not answered my inquiry in regards to trade services. As I am certain simply 'taking' what we need is out of the question. What would be required or requested in exchange for what we need? In addition, would we require your permission to speak with your scholar or hunter in order to learn more about this realm? And lastly, I... noticed your cat population appeared particular interest in our company. For a time. Is this... normal?" Tefkae asked in almost rapid fire succession.

"The cats are sacred watchers of the town." The mayor replies. "For generations, they have kept pests out of our town, though they cannot aid in the fight against the mists. They do, however, sense when one is near, so if you find a cat fleeing, it is a sign that one is headed that way. As for this 'exchange', we have already stated you can be supplied if you speak to the various workers in town. If you wish to have this 'barter' and 'trade', you have given your services by aiding our guards earlier in defending against the mists." The mayor gets up and heads to the shelf with the two cats on it. He lightly strokes one, which purrs quietly. "Though it is likely you may get lost forever in the mists, so the other offer is that you become citizens of my town, and with a role you will find yourselves more comfortable then risking yourselves to being forever lost."
"My apologies. The inquiry shall be logged as merely a confirmation than of the deal then." Tefkae bows lightly by way of apology. "One final set of inquires then. One. Would the deal include making use of the Lanterns for traversing the fog? Two. Where might we find the Hunter? Or so I believer their title was. And Three. Out of curiosity, is your position one that is inherited, elicited for, or assigned?"Once Tefkae had their answer, they turn to leave without a further word of even goodbye.
Sailor yaps and wriggles under Victoria's arm as he watches the mayor and the cats. "The lanterns are created as sources of light, but only The Priest can arrange for their true properties. You will have to arrange with them whether they can supply such things. The hunter is most likely doing as their role suggests at the moment, though it won't be long until they return with something hunted if my predictions are correct." The mayor leaves the cats who watch Sailor with glaring yellow eyes. "As for the position, it is filled by whoever is best suited for the role. I am the best suited for being a mayor, so I have become the mayor. Should another be more suitable, then my role is passed to them."
Zack finds the towns way of doing things very interesting. He says to the mayor, "Forgive me if I'm being rude or if I have overstepped but how is the person most suitable for the role determined? Do the residents give their opinion on the matter or does the decision lie on someone like the Priest?"
Ankor has stood by listening to the others converse with the Mayor, his thoughts seem a little shuffled in his head, of course they have an oath to protect the town as guards. And training brings skill which in turn brings power to the fight. But one can't succeed in battle with out knowing that if it is your last fight, there is more after death, there are many gods the people of the lands worship, the ones who don't believe in such things don't last. It seems to him from the statements of the mayor they do not seek out a solution to the mist. Just deal with the problems. Something he disagrees with from his gut.
"Mayor..." Ankor interrupts at the end of Zach's statement, "if you are the leader of this town what have you done to find the problem that lies within the mist, these creatures attack your village, kill your guards and townsfolk. Perhaps some faith in something would benefit you all. This huntress are they the only one willing to traverse the mist? What can you report to their past findings? Perhaps some initiative is in order to finally rid your selves of this pest problem." Ankor stands chest out hands on his hips in an somewhat aggressive stance. His questions asked in rapid succession similar to Tefkae's questions.
He waits 3 seconds for the mayor to answer. If he doesn't answer Ankor will turn and walk out of the room. Saying before he turns away from the mayor. "No faith...No answers"
His next moves will be to grab his belongings off the table and head outside the mayor's house and find the home of the huntress.

"I suppose it is not something that outsiders would be acquainted with." The mayor sighs, heading back to his desk. "There are rites that we enact to ensure each role is successfully filled within the town. If the roles are not filled, then the stability of our town will begin to crumble. I will spare you the long of it, as you are seemingly in a hurry."
Upon Ankor's questions, the mayor takes a brief second to process the string of questions. "The hunter and the scholar are compiling what they find about the beings within the mist. I manage all the resources and ensure that information and materials are correctly given where they are needed. You are outsiders, and know not all that has befallen our town in the past generations, so I advise you think wisely about how you structure your questions in the future." His tone is still stern and a little dry, but there is definitely a hint of threat and annoyance about Ankor's statements. "I think our meeting here is done for now. Please leave, I have more work to tend to."
Grabbing their bags, the group bump into Miss Fygg as she is bringing the trolley with hot drinks on it. "Oh, are you done with business already?" She asks. "Such a shame, we seldom get such bright company in this place."
