He remains at least somewhat convinced in the need to speak with the cook, if only to absolutely do away with any other surprises. Nonetheless, he refrained from pushing the point, and instead insist/remind when Zack seems adamant about slipping away to pass along the details.
Or if they had been done in the old man's presence, and they were cleared to leave in secret, Happy speaks up at the end. "Now that I've gotten a bit of a rest, I aughta be able to make my own way easier. And it aughta be easier for you as well to sneak around with one less set of stompers. If I can, I can meet you two at the you know where. Though if I'm late, go ahead and without me. I'll catch up in time, assuming I'm not called elsewhere by the grace of the earth mother." He says, patting them both on he shoulders. "And if she does, I pray you too play it safe, and find what allies you can along the way. In these trying times things like these become all the more dangerous... Oh, and make sure you Rillex safe too."
You all share your information with each other and the Lord. The lord considers the information for a while and says Yes well, this has been worse than I imagined. I'm pretty sure the succubus the captain mentioned is our false Duchess. They have the power to corrupt mortal minds as well has shapeshift to appear human. It sounds like when the Duchess fell "ill" the succubus replaced her. It probably took her time to prooperly act like the Duchess, thus her strange behavior. But if what you say is true, and the real Duchess is alive, then its imperative we rescue her. Unfortunately I'll have to stay here, but if I can request your assistance in this matter I can promise you all will be rewarded handsomely. You may also want to investigate those spell casters he mentioned. Its possible they are involved but maybe not, Unfortunately I don't know them so I can't even begin to speculate. Regardless, if you agree to help, you should act soon. Word will eventually spead of the Duchesses absence and Baroness Cromm will likely get suspicious. But can I trust you will all agree to assist? If you rescue the Duchess I can promise a reward thatch such a heroic deed. If you capture the Baroness as well I'll reward you further. Discuss amongst yourselves and let me know soon. Then yes you should sneak out of here, the less people.who see you the better I'd say.
With that, Zack would only linger so the old man would know what they were up to and how they intended to go about it. Given that the Lizard Marshes are where the only 'known' accomplices are, and where the real duchess is supposedly held, I'd say that's the first place we should go for. As its the only one we know has a time limit. However, if it isn't too much to ask, could you or your men perhaps look into the healer in the river district? So we can focus on heading to the Marshes, and then to the wizards tower, barring any new discoveries. Also, try to look into where giants may have attacked recently... that's sort of our original objective before .. all this happened. Tell the kid I'm sorry by the way, I just didn't have the luxury of taking risks.
Waiting long enough to hear everyone's replies, and unless someone said something that would stop him, or to stop him after the fact, Zack would make all haste to the sewers entrance, to head back out the way they'd came, and to meet up with their Zhent contact, giving him the generalized version of events.
The Lord nods and says Aye we can look into it for you. Though time is not so short. What I meant is you should head there is a couple of days at most not a couple of months. But yes we will look into these spell casters of yours. When you return you maybuse the main entrance just ask for me by name.
Unless anyone hadnl any further need to speak to the lord you all return to the sewer to find Falkas looking impatient. Finally, what took so long, thenguard is nearly finished with handling the animals. We should get you to the ship and out of town.
Still, better to hit two targets at once then stagger them, if they have anything to do with eachother.
When everyone was more or less in the sewer, which at this point would just be himself and Nadia based on what Happy said, Just complications. The duchess is dead. However we were able to get some more information on what we were looking for in the process. The boat is not currently needed. We managed to get in and out without alerting the guards, even to our own surprise. Though if you can slip us to the nearest exit from the city for now, that would be preferred.
Nadia was glad that the interrogation went as smoothly as it had with no real torture needing to have been done to get anyone to talk. The ranger compliments Zack's work when she unlocks the door to let him out, locking it securely prior to following behind him to rejoin up with Happy and compile their information together. She let's the two talk, only piping in when need be had Zack missed any tidbits that she had remembered to ensure all their bases were covered. When Happy tells them he won't be coming with them (at least for a little bit), she says, "Mm, alright, Happy. I know you can take care of yourself, but still, be careful, alright? And we'll take good care of Rillex. Promise." Had the tressym been around, she would give him a good scratch at the back on the ears and offered to carry him on her shoulders had he wanted.
Down in the sewers, behind her mask, Nadia's face would scrunch up at the stench. "Didn't miss being down here, that's for sure..." She comments quietly to herself. When they approach Falkas, she let's Zack to the majority of the explaining, unsure of just how much information they had wanted to give away to them, but she does pipes in to say, "Those horses we were promised might come in handy on our newfound journey. Same with that deed to that tower too, after all this, you know? Oh, yes, and the name of the man behind the that sending stone too, if possible. I'm sure when we slip past, we can give Falkas some time to do some gathering. It also gives Happy some time too, to meet up with us."
Falkas looks a bit annoyed by the fact that the party seems to no longer be going to the ship but also looks relieved to heard the Duchess is dead. Well...you did the job as asked...but your reward is on the ship. If you don't plan on leaving via ship I'll have to go back and collect it and get an earful from the Captain. Where are you going next then? If you want your payment I'll need to know where I can find you. Falkas insists you walk and talk as he leads you through the sewers and near an exit. Once arrive the half elfmales sure the coast is clear before exiting and having you follow suit. Horses and the deed as promised, I can arrange it but ill need some time. If you can wait by the south entrance I'll bring them to you or you can follow me to the dock and pick a horse out yourself. Up to you. With the job done the snail will be pleased so he won't mind a little extra expense being payed.
Zack wouldn't argue about walkie-talking, though he did add in Well, sometimes plans change. Being flexible makes for a better merc, and what allows me to do what needs to be done in the moment. Zack wasn't fond of the sewage smell, but he had learned to breathe through his mouth in these situations, atleast you could spit out the taste, while your nose could onyl suffer with each breath. Eventually, the group making their way to the exit. He says We'll wait by the south gate, I've always found shopping to be fastest when you're on your own, and I'm sure you can move faster without a warrior slowing you down. Either way, the one thing I should tell you, is the Duchess was a demon. WHich mans your organization may be dealing with other planes, even if its not your fault. So, it might be best to assume if such things happen again, in regards to treatment goign south quickly, it might just be a devil controlling your organization.
With that, Zack would head to the south gate, though if Nadia wanted to do else, she was more than welcome to.
As Zack walked off Falkas just looked at him with pure confusion on his face. Zack was already gone before his words fully registered with him, and by time it did all he could do was look at Nadia and go What the hell happened back there?
As they walked and talked, Nadia removes her mask as she found it would be pointless in keeping it on at this moment. She nods along when Zack suggests they wait at the south gate, agreeing that it would be more efficient for Falkas to get around without having to worry about them and their noisy armor. When the fighter moves along and Falkas gives her a look followed by a very good question, the elf merely chuckles and says, "Mucha mierda, hermano."
Without adding much else, the ranger follows behind Zack to the south gate as she had nothing else to do otherwise.
Nadia leaves the sewer to catch up with Zack and Falkas just shakes his head and sighs before heading off to the docks. The two of you start making your way to the southern gate to await Falkas's return with your reward and mounts.
Meanwhile two new arrivals approach the city, separated from the gate by several carts and other foot traffic. Claire and Rollo, you are both essentially stuck in traffic. There seems to be an absolute flood of people entering the city. You've been waiting in line for what seems like hours now, the only thing keeping you going is the fact that the line does actually move fairly frequently. Unfortunately the sight of people being turned away doesn't bode well for your chances of getting in. The two of you happen to be standing in line next to one another. It seems like the gate is almost in sight but theres probably still a good chunk of time before you reach it, if you want you have time to talk to one another.
The tall man leans on his axe as he waits for the line to move forward. He shifts a bit so the the plates of his armor can run less.
Rollo can feel the anger beginning to rise within him. He stuffs it back down and turns to the woman next to him to try and take his mind off it. "I had forgotten just how much waiting happens in city life."

Zack was glad to be away from the Zhent. He didn't like the idea of working with them at all. Regardless, he sighed, once they were what he assumed was far enough away, and once Nadia caught up. Huaaa..... I'm. Glad that's over. his facade finally breaking a bit. He didn't look sad, or about to be sad like he had been before, but he looked tired in a non-physical sense. The sooner this Z.. Business is over with, the better. But I am glad that this place is no longer has 'that problem.' Hopefully we'll be done with all this business soon. I remember almost .. almost everything now, outside of a few .. still rather large gaps. But its like a .. puzzle thats been half solves. I can kinda guess where the missing pieces go, even if I'm not sure exactly.
I'm sure the rest will fall into place eventually. But we have atleast one more stop, don't we. And hey Rillex, sorry if I've ignored you too much. My minds been all over the place, and I mean that in multiple ways. We'll still get you where Nadaar was taking you. Zack was walking in a slumped pace. He clearly didn't feel like moving overly fast. And y'know, sweetheart. It's nice, not to have to keep up the facade. One thing My pa told me when I first told him about my dream, right before he shot me down - "Even heroes suffer" not that I've become one yet. I mean, maybe to you... and that means the world, but the world doesn't know yet, so We'll just have to show em. Won't we?
Nadia's eyes are on Zack once he begins to speak, giving the fighter a lopsided smile at his words. She had felt the same way in regards to nearly being done with this Zhent business, and was glad that they were also able to piece some things together for him with the gap in his memory in the process. "I guess doing this wasn't so bad after all, huh?" She asks, lifting her arms above her head to stretch as they walked.
Her arms rest back to her sides when he mentions taking Rillex back home, her gaze falling upon the tressym who had been flitting beside them for a little while now. She takes a moment to reach out and give him a good scratch behind the ears. "I think he forgives you." Nadia muses, her smile still there. Had Rillex wanted, she would allow him to rest upon her shoulders as they made way to the gate.
There is a light chuckle that passes her lips. "Kinda don't wanna show 'em. I like having my own personal hero around, you know? What if you get too busy for me?" She jests, her look softening a bit. "He is right though. Hero's do suffer, more than most people... I just hope you don't think it's okay to go around jumping in front of deadly spells for me or anything. Kinda like you being alive and stuff, as crazy as that may sound."
Claire's eyes shift to regard Rollo. She almost decides not to respond, but then her nose turns up slightly. "This is my first time entering a city this big, so I suppose I wouldn't know. Regardless, if they knew who I was they wouldn't be making me wait like so. My entry will only serve for their benefit." Claire huffs. "... Speaking of, are you suffering any ailments, good sir? I bring forth divine miracles with these humble hands of mine, and perhaps if they see me perform such a feat they'll hasten their efforts to admit me." Her horse then shifts uneasily and the young woman almost loses her balance, but manages to steady herself and her mount. She clears her throat, but doesn't say anything.

Nadia and Zack: Rillex accepts the pets before flying up tonrest on Nadias shoulder. The Tressym is clearly stressed and depressed, between the loss of its family and more recently Nadaar, Rillex has been through quite a lot. You start to think getting him to Goldenfields and back in the care of someone he knows will be best for the creature, and sooner rather than later. The Tressym is accustomed to a life of leisure, and not suited for the excitement that often accompanies adventurers.
Claire and Rollo: As you talk the line slowly but surely moves forward (feel free to continue RP). As you finally get within sight of the front gate you see that, while the gate is open, several people are being denied entry to the city. They appear to be mostly peasants, some have small carts or donkeys carrying worldly possesions while others have nothing but the clothes on their backs. Its likely these are refugees, people fleeing the country side and hoping to find shelter from giant attacks in the city. Unfortunately for these people they are nearly all turned away, some even try to make a break for the city but are quickly captured by guards who drag them off to some cell somewhere. Just ahead of you both is a rather well off looking male driving a cart full of goods, likely a merchant. The guards inspect his merchandise and you're both pretty sure you see the man slip the guards some coin. Soon after he is sent into the city causing a few grumbles from those around you. Soon after a loud Next! Is heard as Claire is waved towards a guard. Shortly after another call is shouted as Rollo is waved towards a different guard.
Claire: The guard in front of you is an older male with a tough looking face and occasional streaks of silver in his otherwise jet black hair. In his hands he holds a book and ink pen. The guard doesn't even bother to look at you before saying State your name and buisness.
Rollo: The guard you're sent to is a young woman with brown hair tied back in a bun. Her expression suggests she is rather angry about being given this post and would rather be doing literally anything else. She has a thin frame but the large hammer on her back suggests she has a strength not readily noticeable. In a rather demanding voice she says Name and buisness sir.
Claire furrows her brow, clearly perturbed by Rollo's explanation. "What petty fools are these? It's just one surprising disappointment after another since I left my home. No wonder the world is in such disarray." Claire sighs and leans back in her saddle a bit. "I suppose nobody told me this job would be easy... Thank you for the information, Sir. What is your name? And may I ask what brings you to this city?"
(After Rollo's response, once the guard calls her up) Claire looks over the man, seeing if he appears ill himself, or if perhaps there is any wear and tear on his outfit, anything she might be able to fix as a show of her magic.
Claire clicks her tongue, clearly irritated, but complies, stating her business. "My name is Claire Arrensfeld, and I come to bring my divine providence upon your city. I heard of the plague ravaging the area, and knowing that cities tend to be prone to such outbreaks, I have arrived preemptively so that I can support your home with my magics, and hopefully nip this disease in the bud."
Happy is certain to share his findings. Although they are not nearly as substantial or helpful as much, other than in setting a time frame for the Duchess sudden change.
