"Mulkrip" -Hobgoblin Barbarian, Path of the Totem Warrior -Libertalia
You all eat and say your farewells before getting to bed. In the morning Torsus has gone. Narz wakes to find Torsus's Ring of Mind Shielding has been left behind, an apparent parting gift from the old warlock. With little else to do but get on the road you make an early go of it. What was once a large party of five has dwindled to a simple pair of adventurers. Luckily you find little trouble along the road despite your proximity to the Evermoors and its dangers. A few days travel you reach the final town before your destination, a small fortified location containing a simple market, tavern and inn. The people here welcome you in with little hassle beyond the usual apprehension to allowing a hobgoblin in their town, but a few words from Claire eases their worries. In the morning you continue on the final stretch to Everlund and arrive at the grand city the following afternoon. Situated on the banks of the Rauvin River, Everlund is one of the North’s most active mercantile communities. A thick stone wall encloses the city, pierced in five places by gates. The gates are currently open to travelrs and you enter the city among a large line of merchant caravans. The buildings of Everlund are stately and well maintained, with steeply pitched rooftops and tall spires that sport colorful banners. The most prominent edifice in Everlund is Moongleam Tower, a keep of black stone It rises from one of the higher knolls in the city and consists of four narrow, cylindrical towers joined together, surrounded by a dry moat. Unsurprisingly for a city this size it also boasts many temples and fine restaurants and inns along with some more affordable ones in less desirable parts of the city. For now, no one bothers you as everyone is too busy with their own buisness to be concerned about two random travlers on the road. What would you like to do from here?
Although surprised at the parting gift, especially after what Narz initially thought to be claims of the Tortle not being able to part with the ring, the hobgoblin spent a moment examining the ring, before then sighing and nodding solemnly at it. "You are a braver soul that you give yourself credit, Torsus." He said quietly as it is slid into place onto his right index finger. But after all that, it's back to the usual settling of morning business before just he and Claire depart the town.
During the journey over the next couple of days, Narz is a touch more quiet than usual, living up for once to his namesake. So short of Claire inviting conversation, the hobgoblin at least appeared mostly content to study various notes or add a bit more here or there regarding their experiences over the past week. But at some point or another, and most likely awkwardly so at that, he does ask if she hadn't mentioned before patron deity and their tenants. Just really out of the blue. But unless pressed, once given an answer its back to his usual self with only Spaz to more often engage her for pets.
When they at last reach their destination in Everlund even Narz needed to take a few moments near whatever entrance served to be the pairs point of egress to simply stand there and soak in the atmosphere of the new city. "I always knew someday I'd visit waterdeep for business one way or another, but... I never really thought I'd wind up this far east and north. Let alone being away from home on business that wasn't just fer my own people's sake." He admits with a chuckle and shake of his head. "Hmph.... anyhow. Tempting as it might be to do a little sight seaing and take it easy fer a bit, best we keep to task a little longer, and see about them circles. And who knows. Mayhaps Artys' contact might even know of others interested in lending a more direct hand to the cause." Narz starts poking at his forehead and humming. "Just need to remember... were we to find them at the Tower or some place more discrete."
(OOC: Above game, I tried searching what few notes I had from way back when, only to realize all of that was saved on another PC. And when I tried searching the thread using Everlund and Artys as key words, I didn't find a direct reference to who or what the contact was or where we were to find them in order to get access to the circles. Any chance either of you remember?)
(Stand by for that. In the meantime here's a map of the city I believe you already got one but I'm gonna repost it. Assume it doesn't have the key buy you could pick out the public locations easily on the map)
(I can't figure out the search function for threads on mobile but ill recap what I have. You know from Artys that Moongleam tower is supposed to house a set of permanent teleportation circles however he did not know specifically who you would need to contact to gain access to them. Its likely you could go direct to the towers and try to find out or seek out someone of power and influence and gain their favor to get access. You were sort of relying on his noble birth to aid you in that endeavor but since he left you're at a bit of a disadvantage. Your second option comes with your new membership in the Zhentarim. Tamalin Zoar from Calling Horns gave you her letter of recommendation and told you to seek out one Dral Thelev at an Inn called Danivarrs House. She said he could get you in contact with people who could aid you.)
While the two of you stand in the street you hear a voice call for your attention. Um, excuse me. Are you two from here by any chance? You haven't seen a druid pass through recently have you?"
Turning you see a bronze skinned wood elf wearing leather armor decorated to appear as though a great oak tree were in full bloom with several branches that seem to fold in on themselves, creating an image of a smaller forest existing within the one great tree branches. She looks like she's been on the road a while, marred with the dirt of the road much like yourselves. She appears to be quite young, even for an elf, probably the same age as Claire and she looks very much like a fish out of water.
He would be easy to spot, Tall, muscular. He's a moon elf with long silver hair."
(To recap, you have the following story threads you could potentially follow: Going with the dragon experts plan of finding the ancient green dragon in Kryptgarden forest to the north. Searching for a red dragon even further north in Klauthen vale (a result of Narz's research) Continuing a search for a druid in the high forest (quest given in Goldenfields) Searching for Harshnag, a seemingly good aligned frost giant wandering the north Investigating giant activity by your tower Investigating giant activity by a ruined tower in the Dessarin Valley to the north Investigating giant activity in the cold wood to the far north. Traveling to Everlund to gain access to a series of teleportation circles for quick travel across the realm (result of Artys networking)
(Those are the notes torsus has. Nothing on Zacks.)
(Yes. Didn't include the dragons. Just thought it was everlund specific. I also couldn't find who if anyone Artys mentioned so thus the slight discrepancy. In fact I think the reason I gave you the letter of recommendation was probably an alternative since Artys left)
"In hindsight, probably should've asked for a letter of-" Narz muttering comes to an abrupt stop in being addressed by another. Upon turning to see the source and giving her a once over, he raises a bushy brow before giving Claire a somewhat sidelong look. "Unfortunately, we're pretty new here ourselves. But neverthelss, I cannot say either of us have seen such elf... But, uhm... mayhaps we can help you find'em? The name is Narz, by the way. That's Vigo, Spaz, and, uh, well I'll let my compatriot here introduce herself." He gestures to each entity in turn, assuming they hadn't found some place to stable their mounts near the gates. "Might we ask yours, and -- if its not prying to much, what sorta business your friend might've had in town."

She frowns and sighs. Ah, I see. Sorry, I've only just arrived in the city a day or two ago so I'm not used figuring out whose from here or not. I just wasn't sure they'd let a hobgoblin in if he didn't live here, um, no offense meant. I'm Natasha, Natasha Selwyn. I appreciate the offer but you don't have to go out of your way to help. I've got a friend looking as well so I'm sure we'll run across him, but if you do see someone that matches that description would you be let me know? I'm staying at Danivarrs House in the city, if I'm not there my friend Zack probably is. He's hard to miss, carries one of the largest swords I've ever seen on his back so look for that. If the information is good we can toss some gold your way as thanks.
(OOC: Was holding for input from Claire, but will keep things going for now.)
"Honestly speaking, it's quite alright. It's more 'cause of Claire here that folk manning the gate didn't raise perhaps nearly as much of a fuss." Narz said frankly before giving a shrug. Just as he's about to say more, the hobgoblin's eyes go wide for a second, before with a head cocked gently to the side he asks, "Wait... I... Uh.. not to be overly presumptious, but is this Zack fella about yea high, dark-haired, and-..." Narz goes on to list other characteristics.
Then once/if they are confirmed, he cannot help but chuckle and shakes his head faintly. "Small world... or maybe not that small at all," He murmured to himself. "If it ain't too much trouble miss, would'ja mind leading -us- to this Danivarrs house? We're... I suppose you can call us associates of Zack. And, well, I can't speak for Claire here, but I'd like to have a talk with him sooner than later if he's really in town. Preferably without us getting lost ourselves just going by any directions. No offense."

Oh, yes, thats him, to a T, she says as you provide a description. I didn't expect to run into any of his friends here, though I admit I've not known him long so I'm not really sure how many friends he might have out there. Oh wait, does that mean you know my sister Nadia as well? I wish I could have been there for her, I've not seen her since she went off to be an adventurer, I never expected she'd settle down so early in life. Sorry I'm rambling, yes I can show you to the inn. Its about the only place I know how to find. I've never been to a city like this so its all a.bit intimidating. If you don't mind me asking, what brings you to Everlund anyway?
Apart from a small grimace at being labeled 'a friend', Narz appeared thoughtful and to be listening closely, but otherwise maintain a fairly neutral expression. "Much the same as Zack, or so I am starting to suspect, in that our business still leaves us bound to discovering methods to best deal with recent upsurge of giant activities. And while we've made a number of discoveries, there is yet one major issue we need to have settled, least we find ourselves forever on the backfoot in responding to issues as they come up." He explains at least loosely so, figuring all the more important aspects could be explained later. "Uh, be all that as it may, a conversation of these sorts are prolly not so suited for chatter on the side of a road. So, might we be off to this Inn? As chances are any other questions you might have fer us are bound to be answer over the course of a proper conversation with all players involved." Narz said with a smirk thrown out towards the end.

Natasha leads you through the busy city streets only stopping a few times to reorient herself before you wind up at the inn. The place is quite busy and seems to have several guests who judging by the way they arm themselves appear to be the adventuring type. In one corner of the roo. You see a familiar spikey haired face wearing armor of shining mithral. Zack sits at the bar nursing a mug when he sees you all enter.
Hey! Zack, these friends of yours? Ran into them at the city gates and it sounded like you may know each other.
Zack had been sharing a tale or two about his exploits from before, though obviously leaving out any details that wouldn't be couth, or were otherwise were confidential. Despite his ever-carefree demeanor, Zack had always held to professionalism when it mattered. Narz would likely disagree. Taking another full sip of his ale, and seeming none the worse for wear. The room seemed to center around Zack to some degree, but he'd always had a charismatic personality - even though that rubbed some people the wrong way - His sword was nowhere in sight, though for those who knew him they would also know that it wasn't an issue for the man.
Narz and Claire -both of whom had only met him for a brief time, for barely more than a single mission, maybe two which led to him accepting his position as Master of Arms for Daggerford, as well as becoming the husband of a certain elf. Though both Claire and Narz would easily notice that Zack's physique had changed. His muscles were sculpted to perfection, and he clearly looked stronger - as strong as a human could be; barring external aid. Whatever he'd done since they left, he clearly hadn't slacked off after their parting.
His head turning when he hears his name called, at-least a few glances following his. His smile growing wider when he see's everyone. Yo! Natasha! You found this pair at the gates? Heh, that sounds all too familiar. he says, recalling when they were trying to get into Daggerford. Glad to see you two didn't get lazy after I left! But hells! he says as he gets up, nodding to those near him to pardon himself from their company.
Getting up, he walks to the trio, taking Narz's hand into his own and giving it a firm handshake, doing similar, if less firm for Claire. Seem's you've all met my little sister Natasha. Anyways, Sorry, I'm being rude! What brings you two out here? I'm here on a mix of business, and the usual - though this is more of a stop along the way. Come, sit! I'll buy us all some good food and drink and we can catch up!
Narz couldn't help but look a little more hopeful seeing Zack in the flesh. Although there was no guarantee the swordsman could once again take up more direct action in the cause assigned to what remained of the original group, the fact that Zack was given the freedom to be so far north wasn't lost to him. Nevertheless, there was a moment in which the hobgoblin started to interrupt Natasha before she could call out, only to be that second too slow and falter with his words.
If given even so much as a questioning look about what he meant to say afterwards he'd just shake a hand and his head in a dismissive gesture, before returning his attention to Zack with a very small but warm smile and a nod of acknowledgement. He'd soon enough find himself returning a handshake with a unflinchingly firm one of his own, but not so firm as to appear to challenge the man despite some instinct driven temptations.
"I can't speak fer Claire on the subject, but some food at least would be nice." He admits in a tone and accent unfamiliar to Zack. But then again, it has been many months and since meeting last, the hobgoblin seemed at least a tidbit more... "relaxed" than he used to be back then. "Tho' as fer why we're here, well, it's sorta adjacent business to our original assignment. Just, uh... ran into a bit of a snag that maybe you can help us out with given yer connections." He confesses as much, but at least intended to leave things there for the moment to let Zack guide them from there to a spot to wait for food and so on.
(Sorry I fell off of this for a bit, I'm back and at it)
To Narz's questioning of Claire's deity way earlier, - there is a conversation to be had there but I feel like I missed the window for it. For now, I'll leave it that Claire gives some ambiguous comment about 'The Light' and then awkwardly changed the subject.
As Zack takes Claire's hand, he would find her grip stronger and sharper than he remembered, her skin there more calloused. Some of the bubbling naivete is missing from her expression and her eyes. "It's good to see you again," Claire offers the man before agreeing to some food and drink. "And then business," she adds, nodding as Narz brings up their 'snag'.

(Urb said for me to go ahead and post where we go to talk.)
Zack looks around the tavern, looking for a spot that's private but not conspicuous, that can fit the trio four of them. Then....After a few long moments of standing awkwardly, he finds one and leads Claire and Narz to it. On the way, telling a bar wench, who at-least seemed unoccupied to bring some food and drink to the table, and to put it on his tab. Sitting down in the first chair on the opposite side as they approached. He crossed his well-defined arms and glanced at each person there before saying Well, I suppose I'll start! Seems you all met Nadia's Little sis, Natty. And well, you all know I'm the Master at Arms of Daggerford. But.. I bet you're thinking "Wait, why are you here?! I thought you weren't going out of town! And Where's Nadia!?" well... Nadia's baking a little half-elf or two and I convinced the duchess to let me go on a 'peacekeeping' mission. Diplomacy with the lands around. Ridding the lands of Giants, give Daggerford some political sway with other towns, and such by my actions, and ... well... I figured I could always reach a little higher. Plus, we were following up on a tip, something about a druid.

Anyways, Sorry, I'm being rude! What brings you two out here? I'm here on a mix of business, and the usual - though this is more of a stop along the way. Come, sit! I'll buy us all some good food and drink and we can catch up!
Occassional Dungeon Master.

Zack looks around the tavern, looking for a spot that's private but not conspicuous, that can fit the
triofour of them. Plus, we were following up on a tip, something about a druid.Occassional Dungeon Master.
