Claire shivers at the sudden frigid air, and mumbles something about not knowing it could even get so cold. She dons her winter clothing, taking more than a few moments to get used to the bulkier fabrics before entreating Narz's offer to exit before him. She seems a little lost at Narz's comment and then the young woman's extensive response, but upon hearing the term 'speakers', is able to put two and two together. As the woman finishes, Claire produces a few gold coins, but looks to Narz for approval of the amount before passing them to the woman, and then Zack beats her to it and seems at a loss for what to do. "Thank you. Uhm... stay... warm,"Claire offers as an uncertain pleasantry, awkwardly holding a handful of coins.
Zack, you find the woman hard to read though don't sense any ulterior motive. Regardless.of how much you give between your gold Claires she looks at what to most non adventuring folk is a large sum of money with wide eyes. Oh my, are you sure M'lords? Tis a kings ransom this is. You do a great kindness to ol' Beldora. Yes this will keep me warm and fed for a long time. Thank you kind ones, a thousand blessings upon ye!
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Zack simply nods, giving the woman fifteen gold pieces. He'd likely make it up, and it could change the womans life forever. I hope this doesn't come off as .. I think the word is convoluted, but I could be wrong, but it's no big deal - really. Just don't spend it all in one place. Maybe use it to start a shop, and then you can become self reliant. Afterall... as someone who's experienced this place without the comforts some have, you will likely know best what people need here. And then.. if you can but provide it, you can climb back up, and maybe even own your own place someday!(Confidence Booster for the woman: 26 )
With that, Zack begins to head to the town hall, whether the others join him or not.
After sparing the shop a glance, Narz nodded understandingly back at the woman. Before he can add more however, at the look from Claire Narz is given pause to give the a coin a once over, before nodding in approval, believing the amount adequete enough to buy some favoritism in the future, if nothing else. Eventually, Narz turns back to the woman to give a slight bow at the waist and say, "Many thanks indeed, Mam. We'll be sure to stop by the shop as well after 'ttending to other business. And if you wind up crossing paths with a wood elf fella that really has them, uh... natury druid vibes coming off him and isn't a local, mind direct'n him to the inn or store around later in the afternoon? Got a fan of his with us that's wanting to find him for the longest."At that, Narz made to follow after Zack, and once self-assured they were out of ear shot he whispers to the group, "Ya do know Beldona was connect to our associates back at the tower, right?"

Bryn Shander’s town hall is the largest building that borders the central square. Constructed of stone and wood the area around it is kept clear of snow and ice and a few guards remain posted who stand near various fires kept lit to provide warmth to those on outdoor duty. Asking for either the speaker or the sheriff gets you directed to the back of the hall where a small flight of stairs leads down to a cellar with walls of frozen hard packed earth. The cellar appears to have been converted into a sheriffs office with a single adjoining jail cell which is unoccupied. Sitting at the best is a human wearing heavy furs over a blue uniform. Light shines off his bald head as he looks over a report and scratches his beard, a worried look on his face. On the otherside of the desk stands a chipper looking dwarf, also covered in several furs over a matching uniform and adorning a badge over her heart. She notices you enter but before saying anything her attention is brought back to her current conversation.
Very well Augrek. See too it that the patrols are doubled. I'll relay this report to the speaker for further instructions but for now the towns security is priority. With luck they'll move on.
Yes sir, I'll relay the order.
Very good. You're dismissed.
He waves your group over as the dwarf rushes out of the room. Come on in. Don't recognize any of you, you come in on one of the trade caravans? Well I'm Markham Southwell. Sheriff. Is there something I can help you with? If you're here to report a crime I'm afraid you'll have to speak to one of my deputies as I'm quite busy.
Claire steps up to the table. "Nice to meet you sir. My name in Claire Arrensfeld. My companions and I just arrived in town and are heading northward in response to the giant crisis that's been going on. We were hoping to talk to the Speaker in an attempt to coordinate our efforts to deal with the large folk."

Giants eh? Well girl you're in luck. I was just about to head to the speakers house for the exact same reason. Just got a rather disturbing report about the Frost giants that have been seen wandering the area recently. You could join me if you'd like, though who are the rest of your companions here?
Zack nodded affirmatively as Claire, for once, took the forefront of the conversation side... not that he'd know from experience. Extending his hand out to shake, and if accepted, givign a firm but not threatening grip, to show respect for a man with power. Yup! As Claire said, we're all here for the giant issue. Though we all likely have different specific reasons, our goals align in that we want it to stop so people can stop getting hurt, and we can all go back to worrying about the next or- he hesitates for once, and slightly alters the wording Bandit raid. he says, steering away from orc, whether Narz would be offended or not.
In my case, I'm Zack Fair, Master at Arms of Daggerfords military, out on the mission you just heard about, and diplomatic. Tryign to form a network to help better respond to the giant threats by connecting willing townships into a loose defense & information pact in regards to the aformentioned giants. But aye! We should go with you if you're already on similar business, and I know what it's like being an officer.. even if our specific duties are different!
On the way, Zack would talk to the group, and though the topics were sparse, they pertained to recent tactics and inspiring words, giving everyone in the party, AND the sherrif +8 temp HP!
Narz looked at once hopeful and worried at the news about frost giant sightings. Seeing as the one hand it meant contact at least hadn't been made between the city and Harshnag. Yet. Even so, Narz lost himself in thought for a second or two, before then noting the note of hesitation in Zack. Yet apart from a raised brow he'd just as quickly dismiss any concern in a small shake of his head, before taking the opportunity to introduce himself in due time.
"Names Narz, and I second... third? Heh... I agree with my compatriot here. Provided you don't mind the aid of a hobgoblin too much." He jests or tried to in any case. But so dry was the delivery that it was anyone's guess. "One thing we aughta note 'fore we be heading anywhere, 'n that be there's one frost giant in particular we were told that s'pose to be heading this way. One of the 'good' ones, as some might liken myself compared to be my people." He chuffs. "His names Harshnag. Got a bit of reputation further south for helping the civilized folk, and I'd assume the same about this parts as well. But regardless, if we do see one frosty tear'n into the others, odds are that might be him. And if it is him, well, best we be lend'n him a hand.... not that he's likely to need it. Yet even still, best to play it safe, seeing as we need'em alive to help us resolve this whole giant crisis at its core, or so we hope!"

A pleasure gentlemen. Glad to have someone of such I rank here. Must be serious if they send their master at arms. As for, Narz was it? I'll take any help I can get from anyone willing to provide it. Life here is harsh, only way to survive is to rely on each other. Long as you're behaving and following our laws then I've no problems with you. But I'm familiar with this Harshnag you mentioned. He was actually here not too long ago. Was heading North to talk to his kin. Think he had it in his head they could be reasoned with. Thing is it seemed like he may had been successful for a time. Giant sightings stopped for a while. When he didn't return we didn't think much of it. But now my scouts say the giants are on the move again. But I'm getting ahead of myself. This is a report I need to make to the speaker. Come on then, follow me.
The Sheriff leads you away from the town hall and towards the speakers palace. "Palace" is definitely an overstatement as you soon find out. Compared to other such places granted such a title, this is little more than a hovel, but fashioned out of stone cut by dwarven hands, with a pitch slate roof and a colonnade out front, this building seems almost out of place compared to the rough wooden dwellings elsewhere in the town. Following sheriff Southwell in he quickly introduces you to the speaker who has been waiting in her office. She wears the heavy furs typical of the town residents but adord with fine but simple finery. With long brown hair and a serious look she greets you each in turn in a polite but otherwise short fashion. After a brief introduction, explanation of why your here, and catching her up on Southwells report she turns to look out her window. I see. So the giants are on the move again, and heading this way yes? Harshnag still hasn't returned and we still have no answers about what they actually want.
Yes Mrs Shane, that seems to be the rub. I think its safe to assume Harshnagis either dead or imprisoned. If his talks failed, I doubt they would let him go if they felt he would hinder their plans.
I agree. But we cannot afford the men to mount a rescue, especially if the giants intend to attack the town. If they do attack, what are our odds? Is the guard ready to defend such an attack.
They'll defend Bryn Shander to the last Ma'am, but our odds well, to be frank I don't have hopes we'll hold out for long against a concentrated group of giants ma'am. Not without Harshnag. Maybe not even with him but I'd like our chances better. Still, these new comers here might be of some help. As they said, they were sent here to look for Harshnag and to deal with the giants. We could find some use for them.
Speaker Duvessa Shane turns to regard your group. I don't mean to insult you, but the four of you don't seem like all that much. Can you really help take on a group of frost giants I wonder? But you're willing to help so I shan't turn you away. Harshnag went north a tenday ago and hasn't returned. Without him any fight against the giants is sure to be a losing one. If you're willing, I'd like you to head north as well and try to find him. Bring him back here before his kin destroy my town. Are you up for the task?
Zack listens intently to everything said, and initially while they had been with the sherrif earlier he had intended to ask, but decided to wait until they got to the speaker's office, both to prevent redundancy, but also to increase the odds. As everyone had forgotten about a certain someone. When the speaker finished giving her her opinions and updates on the general situation.
Well, as your sherrif here said earlier - the situation is pretty bad. Likely it effects the entire continent.. or atleast the areas nearest where giants live. That's part of why I'm connecting towns into an information network to better help us respond to threats as they appear, without having to rely on the speed of a courier. Among other things. Perhaps this alliance will only last while the giant's remain a threat but that's good enough for me.
As for us? I can understand your doubt.. considering I forgot my sword back in Evurlund... he says, acting momentarily distraught, as if he'd made the greatest blunder of his lifetime, his hand outstretching, though leaving space for the pommel, and with a heavy, metallic sound, the sword appeared in his hand, being torn away from whatever theif's grip he'd left it in the tavern to steal as his massive, hundred pound sword that was as tall as he was, and thick as a medium tree trunk on the non-blade side was lifted with ease over his shoulder and into it's holster. Name's Zack Fair. And everyone in this group has some history under their belts. In my case, I killed the bastard who killed my parents with the plague that was running rampant near daggerford that would kill entire towns over a weekend. Who discovered and foiled a demons plot to take over an important Daggorfordian individualhe said, being nonspecific so as not to shame the Duchess by revealing it was her. before passing the torch onto some of those gathered here, who went on to fight off giants at Goldenfields, killed a vampire in a town who's name i forget at the moment.... before finally making their way here.
It's not as though there weren't losses along the way... he said, Remembering the dragonborn, and others, meanwhile also referring to Rollo etc. But those here all have a record of success. And I intend to keep it that way.
There is one other order of Business though. he said, looking to Natasha. Aside from Harshnag, we're also looking for a Druid. A fairly powerful one. he says, stating the name as the player forgot it.... Have you seen them or know where they are? And do you know if an attack may be immenent or if we can 'safely' head out to find out Harshnags fate without worry thee town may suffer in our absence?
"Hmn. Curious..." Narz muttered and began combing his beard again in thought. But he hadn't become so lost in thought that he couldn't at least fall in line after the others as the Sheriff lead the way to their next destination. Later on during introductions and subsequent debriefing of Bryn Shanders' Speaker, Narz found himself subconsciously standing more at attention as the meeting progressed, and looking to Duvessa with genuine admiration. He's quick to nod in answer to her final question. But before he can properly muster up more of a response -- some assurance really to set the speaker's mind more at ease, Zack beats him to the punch.
After that, and depending on how forthwith Fair had been with his abilities prior to the current meeting(as their last interaction and battle alongside together was months ago), Zack's opening admission would either have Narz closing his eyes, frowning, and shaking his head or rolling his eyes and smirking a bit in anticipation of what was to come next. And though potentially startled in the case of the former, another thought occurs to him regardless, and has him making a point of having his hands up a bit as if in surrender to the Sheriff and Speaker and giving the duo a small but apologetic half-smile, further assuring the pair that he at least had no magical surprises up his sleeves that might get misconstrued. At least... none he hadn't the wisdom to keep from pulling.
"In addition to what my compatriot has mentioned, are there any known giant settlements to the north or markings to keep an eye out for? Or might you at least have someone you can spare -- just the one -- more familiar with these lands?" He requests. "Not that we won't or can't manage in some way ourselves, but with time being of the essence, there's little room for even small mistakes in navigation, init?"

I certainly hope there will not be an imminent attack but truthfully I've no way of knowing their intentions. According to the scouting reports large numbers of giants have been seen coming this way with what appear to be weapons of war. So I can only assume they intend to attack the town or lay us under siege. With luck they will hold off on an attack. Imminent attack or not I frankly would rather have you out searching for Harshnag rather than here aiding us. You should head to the Southwest gate and seek Deputy Augrek Brighthelm. She can help you out in the tundra as she is out main scout. We've not yet found the giants settlement but we suspect they must have a camp or something close by. That will likely be where you find Harshnag. He carries a badge of the Waterdeep city guard if I recall As, I could draw if it that would help for your spell and you could perhaps track that. As for your earlier mention of a druid, I'm afraid no such person has been brought to my attention if they are here at all.
Zack listened intently, mumbling just loud enough to be heard once 'brighthelm' was mentioned Hmm, sounds like a dwarf... or maybe a halfling....he mused as he took it all in, eve as the speaker effectively just set a death-flag on the town. Suckign in air before sighing at that thought he pressed on, sheathing his sword properly then. I mean, if you're sure. Just be careful, i wouldn't want to come back to rubble. And I say that not because of any doubt in your skills but as concern for a fellow man. I suppose that just begs the question, as we're new to the town... where might Augrek be, or most likely be? Even if it's just a general area.
As he knew not with certainty the full scope of Claire's spell, or so he could recall in the moment, Narz commented not on the offer of providing a picture. Just as he wouldn't question the Speaker on her assessment, as a gradual picture had already begun to develop in mind over the hardiness of the people of Bryn Shander. Of course only a proper tour would solidfy the image, but at the thought alone, he mentally scoffed and faintly shook his head to the sides.
He then furrowed his brows as he turned to Zack. "I... presume you be meaning where to find her when off duty? As they've, uh, already mentioned the Southwest gate be where she can otherwise be found... But if not-" He turns back to the Sheriff. "-perhaps my compatriot here be hope'n ya don't mind point us in the general direction upon stepping out of the building. As he, uh... brings up a fair enough point. If you or someone either of you know have a fair map of the region as well, that would be mighty 'preciated as well. Beyond that, and, uh... Claire's possible picture to study, uhm... hmm... ah! If you and yours would do us the kindness in keeping an eye out for this druid around town, that'a be 'preciated as well. Otherwise, I don't think there's much more we can ask at this point that might be too, uh... overstepping in this newly made alliance... of a sorts." Narz a bit awkwardly clears his throat, clasped his hands behind his back, then looked to be waiting for either a dismissal or confirmation of the meeting being adjorned so the party can carry on with their business.

Claire nods to the offer of the picture, and will take a good look at it once it’s drawn and offered. “Can you tell me what material it’s made of? Not having seen that particular badge in person I’m not sure if the spell will work, but at the very least I can search for the material.”

Who discovered and foiled a demons plot to take over an important Daggorfordian individual he said, being nonspecific so as not to shame the Duchess by revealing it was her. before passing the torch onto some of those gathered here, who went on to fight off giants at Goldenfields, killed a vampire in a town who's name i forget at the moment.... before finally making their way here.

Claire raises her hand and chimes in. “We’d have to be fairly close already, but if it’s any help, I can cast locate object. If you know of anything unique Harshnag may have on his person, I can use that to narrow down his location further once we’re in range.”
Zack listened intently, mumbling just loud enough to be heard once 'brighthelm' was mentioned Hmm, sounds like a dwarf... or maybe a halfling.... he mused as he took it all in, eve as the speaker effectively just set a death-flag on the town.
