[OOC: The Perception roll is a failure, Guilliame's roll for experience is:8
This is a success, so Guilliame gains some experience, which I have added to his character sheet.
The results of his Arcana check is also a failure as he cannot identify the spell that is making Basilly's rod glow. However, he has seen similar magical effects created by people at the School of Occult Studies.
Guilliame's roll for experience is: 10
This is also a failure, so no experience, I'm afraid.]
"Protection," says Basilly over the sound of the wheels of the road. "As an apprentice, I do not yet have the right to wear a sword... Which is a bit of a joke, as I am finding this a lot more useful."
For Guilliame:
[OOC: Seeherefor a previous mention of Basilly using a club, though this current sturdy rod is not the knurled cudgel mentioned but something else again.
Also, Guilliame would know that it is a lot easier to enchant brass and silver than weapon-quality iron.]

Tyrus Mountson: Lvl 3 Dwarvish Bard; Waterdeep Campaign (Dragon Heist) Nanoc the Younger: Semi-retired Lvl 2 Rogue / Level 2 Barbarian Human; The Knuckle, Mror Holds, Ebberon. The Honourable Jaden Fellan: Level 3 Human Eldritch Knight; Band of Sunswall
AKA: Phillip Berrie: writer, editor and academic thrillseeker—a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.
Basilly looks a little surprised before he shrugs and replies, "I suppose I must be becoming a little inured to death... I do get to see a lot of it in my role as an apprentice Seeker. I also did not know the man, and while I admit it sounds unlikely to be a coincidence, we do not know the manner of his passing yet."
[OCC: The Seekers are attached to the Temple of Donai, the Mithran god of the dead. So Basilly quite likely does spend his time involved with death in many forms.]

I listen to the Magi's words then turn my attention to Samel, I want to distract him: "are you old enough to have had your first drink yet Samel? What was it like?"
At first, Samel looks a little shocked that Dora has spoken to him. Then he nods his head and says, "Of course I have, Handleader. I have been drinking for years. My masters allow the servants to have the remainders of any wine after their dinner."
[OOC: Dora's passive Insight tells her that he seems to be telling the truth, which is perhaps a little odd as that suggests the Hazluk household is somewhat lenient with what it allows its servants to do.]

"Ummm," says Samel, thinking for a moment. "I like the sweet wines, the white ones."
Samel is looking less nervous but more confused at this point.
[OOC: The coach has now slowed because it has reached the more built-up part of the Ward. You should reach your destination quickly. Any last conversation?]

[OOC Not from Dora. I want Dora to be first out of the coach and to approach Barrus to stay with Samel. When do I roll for initiative or reflex or whatever it is that I need to have?]
[OOC Not from Dora. I want Dora to be first out of the coach and to approach Barrus to stay with Samel. When do I roll for initiative or reflex or whatever it is that I need to have?]
[OOC: Initiative is normally only used for combat and other situations where there are opposing sides trying to gain an advantage by moving first. I am not sure that it applies in this case as Dora could simply say 'let me get out first', which presumably the others would comply with.
In a case where something were to happen that people weren't expecting, I would first have the players make a roll to see if their characters were Surprised by the action. Once it has been established which characters were surprised and which aren't, Initiative would then be rolled for all characters (a d20 roll with a character's Initiative bonus added, which for Dora is +2)) and then characters would act in the first round in turn from highest to lowest Initiative with those that were surprised not being able to act (or react) in the first round.]
Before reaching the Sheriff's Office, the coach starts to slow even more while it is travelling past a row of double-storey houses.
"Handleader," calls Barrus from the driver's seat as the coach comes to a stop. "It looks like we are here."
[OOC: If Guilliame wants more conversation, we can backtrack a little and assume it was done while still travelling.]

Get out first. Say to Samel, "stay here till I check things". Look around for life, assess for ambush potential. Walk to Barrus, "Barrus please escort Samel, keep him safe. Oh, I will take the crossbow as you will need to focus on Samel's safety."

Let out anyone who wants to get out first, otherwise get out in the order of entry. Make sure sword is at the ready as soon as I'm out.
