Engelian Adventures

As Tambor says goodbye, Guilliame turns and begins to make his way back towards the School of Occult Studies.

Walking through the streets of the Ward, he hears the calling of the fifth candle of the morning. It is getting close to lunchtime and that means he should be in time to have lunch with Velma in the School refectory.

He quickens his pace, but then stops when he hears his name being called out in a man's voice.

Looking round, he sees no one close to him that he recognises. Then he sees a hand gesturing to him from the first floor window of the building he is passing.

Wave back. Go to the front door below the window and knock.  

Guilliame waves back and sees Dworkin gesture again for him to come up and then step away from the window.

Heading towards the nearest ground floor entrance, Guilliame sees that the building is actually some sort of boarding house. He knocks on the door and has to wait for quite a while before the door is opened. Standing in the doorway is the tall figure of Dworkin, dressed in casual clothes that are mainly black in colour.

"Guilliame," says Dworkin, looking up and down the street over Guilliame's shoulder. "Long time no see." The tall man then steps back and motions for Guilliame to enter, addin, "Come in, come in. Would you like a drink?"

"I'd love one, thanks Dworkin. What have you been up to since I last saw you?"

"Come this way," Dworkin says, heading towards a wooden staircase. "I have a bottle upstairs where we can talk in private."

Off to one side there is a general living area with a table chairs and a fireplace where an elderly woman is tending to something in a pot suspended over the coals. The woman turns to look at Guilliame and watches him intently as he approaches and begins to climb the stairs.

"There is much to tell," says Dworkin as he climbs the stairs up to the first floor. "I am afraid Melitta is out at the moment, but I am sure she also would like to catch up when she gets back..."

Dworkin reaches the landing and then turns to look back down at Guilliame and says, "Are you still in the adventuring trade? We might have some work for you, if you are interested?"

As Guilliame climbs the stairs, he suddenly realises how little the man at the top of the stairs matches the drawing he was shown by Seeker Lomani and Basilly when they came asking questions about the Dworkin Blackfeather they were looking for. Whoever that picture was a representation of, it was not this man, though Guilliame does note some similarities.

OOC Does the voice match?

[OOC: The man's voice is as Guilliame remembers, including the strange Angolorian accents to his Stemian words.]

"I'm starting to set some roots down. I have responsibilities to attend to. But I'd be interested to hear what you had in mind. By the way have you heard from Seeker Lomani of the Donai church. She has been asking after you."

"A Seeker looking for me," says Dworkin, looking concerned. "... That cannot be good."

He is quiet for a moment before he brightens up and gestures for Guilliame to follow him along the upstairs corridor to a room at the front of the building.

"I promised you a drink," Dworkin says as he opens a door into a bedroom that shows evidence of long-term residence by two people: Dworkin and possibly a woman, though there is a distinct lack of femininity in the smaller person's belongings.

[OOC: Please make an Investigation check to try to learn more as Guilliame looks around the room.]

Dworkin pushes aside some books and papers lying upon the single table in the room and then places two rather grimy-looking pewter tankards on the cleared space. He then grabs a dark brown bottle off a shelf and proceeds to pour into them a large measure of what looks and smells like a strong, dark rum.

"What can you tell me about this Seeker?" Dworkin asks as he proffers Guilliame one of the tankards.

Because of his studies in the arcane, the books on the table catch Guilliame's eye. He has seen books with similar names in the library at the School of Occult Studies and he reasons that they must belong to a magus who understands the Sorendenese tongue, which is the language they appear to be written in. However, if memory serves him correctly, Guilliame reasons that this cannot be Dworkin, who he doesn't remember as being able to read at all.

As Guilliame accepts the proffered drink, he realises that the book titles also all seem to concern enchantment magicks: the domain of Master Wallash from the School. Clearly the magus who belongs to those books has either specialised in that domain, or is intending to.

"To old times," says Dworkin, lifting his own tankard and taking a gulp.

As Guilliame goes to follow suit, something else in the room catches his eye. Near the bed he sees what is clearly the contents of a woman's makeup kit. This is perhaps not unusual considering it is clear that a woman is sharing this room with Dworkin. However, Melitta was not one for such fripperies, so perhaps Dworkin's roommate is not Melitta.

[OOC: Does Guilliame drink? If so, please make a Constitution check for him versus a DC of 8 as the pungent smell of the rough spirit assaults his senses.]

Guilliame takes a swig and the pungent fumes immediately take his breath away, causing him to cough and splutter.

Dworkin laughs and and comes close enough to give Guilliame a hearty slap on the back before saying, "Good stuff this. It will put hairs on your chest."

He then takes another swig of his own drink and asks, "So, what about this Seeker? What was her name? Lomani? Did she say why she was interested in me?"

"She didn't say. I trust her more than most of the church types. She seems to have cleared out some guards who were bashing up non-believers."

Dworkin seems a little surprised by this. "That does not sound like any of the Death Stalkers I have seen or heard about," he says. "They all seem pretty hard nosed about this stupid decree of the king's."

He thinks for a moment and then asks, "And she actually asked for me by name? How does she even know I am in town?"
