[OOC: Unless someone wants to add anything, the group will now leave Brassman's house. Let me know if there is anything from the house that you want to take with you, otherwise, I will assume it has been left upstairs in the room with the bodies.]

"The hidden door opens inwards, so that could be tricky," replies Basilly. "And there is no way to know if the creature inside might open the door and attack us while we are doing so. Best to leave it as it is."

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
I take the knife from the unknown victim and pocket it.
I also kneel beside Brassman's body as we exit and quickly examine the wound to determine the height and hand preference of the murderer. I estimate Brassman's height. I then cover both corpses with clothes from the various chairs.

For Dora:
[OOC: Unfortunately, you still can't tell the height and handedness of Brassman's killer as this is a fail, which means you get the chance for experience for Dora.
Roll for experience:6
Another failure, so Dora is none the wiser.
]
While Guilliame sets up the Alarm on the hidden door in the basement, Dora quickly investigates the corpses while Sheriff Tambor talks with Handleader Ahman.
[OOC: The sheriff, Basilly, Dora and Guilliame are about to walk the few blocks to the main sheriff's office in the Scholar's Ward. Let me know if either of you want to take any precautions, or do anything else, during the walk.]
[OOC: Sorry for the delay. We had a four-hour power outage here last night and so no internet before we went to bed by candlelight.]
For Dora:
As Dora heads off toward the main sheriff's office, she at first thinks the streets are deserted of people. However, she then catches a glimpse of movement at the opening of a darkened entryway a couple of doors down the street from Brassman's. The movement is there and then gone, but without a light she can't see anything more.
[OOC: Basilly's glowing stick is the only light source the group has at the moment and while there are street lamps in this street they are on the same side of the road as the houses and so the entryways of the houses not near the lampposts are in darkness. The movement she saw is from an entryway about 60 feet away.]

I stop at the opening of a darkened entryway and wait for Basilly. When he nears I whisper to him "there is someone there" gesturing surreptitiously at the entry.
Dora stops and waits for the others to catch up but, immediately after she has whispered words with Basilly, a voice calls out from the entryway Dora saw movement in, "I see my skills at being discreet are not as good as I thought they were."
With these words, a man in dark clothing with a hood pulled up over his head steps out into the light. "Hello Basilly," he says, "I am not trying to step on your toes, but once I heard where you had gone, I could not resist following. I hope you do not mind."
"Midian," says Basilly with some surprise but obviously recognising the man's voice.
"Who is this man?" asks the sheriff.
The man then gives a slight nod of recognition to the sheriff before replying, "Apprentice Seeker Midian Vidon, my lord. We have met before. It was just after my former master, Seeker Harlan, was murdered. I was hoping that this case might have something to do with Simad Moonsoon."
[OOC: All the above-mentioned people have entries on the WorldAnvil site. I will interrupt the conversation here to give you a chance to ask any questions.]

"Apprentice Vidon, I am Handleader Wallus, forgive me for asking but perhaps you could explain how you followed us when much of our journey tonight has been by coach?"
"Follow you?" says Vidon. "I did not follow you at all, Handleader. I followed after Basilly when I heard where he had gone and found out about this incident when I visited the Ward's sheriff's office."
He then pauses for a moment before speaking to the group in general. "I have been checking the streets in the area looking for suspicious people. One thing that Seeker Harlan taught me was that a criminal sometimes returns to the scene of a crime to see how their work is appreciated by the general public, and to also see how those in power react to their crimes. I think they secretly like the notoriety, even though they want to keep their identity a secret."
"You always were the shadow to Seeker Harlan's flame," says Basilly amused. "I now see how that might have worked for you both."
Vidon pulls back his hood to reveal a handsome face and a slight smile, before saying, "Well, I certainly would not have been allowed to compete with him, would I?"
"Ah yes, I remember you now," says the sheriff. "I take it you have not seen anyone suspicious?"
"No, my lord," says Apprentice Vidon with a shrug. "I have had a rather fruitless few hours, I am afraid. But now—and with your leave—I think I will leave Apprentice Cullen to his work and head back to the Temple."
The sheriff nods and Apprentice Vidon begins to turn away.
[OOC: Once again stopping to give you two a chance to interact, or ask me questions. If necessary, we can backtrack a little on the conversation that occurred between the non-player characters.]

"Thats all very well Apprentice but I said us not I. Us being Basilly, the Magus and I. We have worked together much of this evening. If you followed Basilly then how did you get here without transport. Did you go straight to the Sheriff's office and not follow Basilly at all? Why would you do that as Basilly's summons was to our Guard Post?"
Apprentice Vidon stops and then turns back look at Dora, a smile on his face.
"I did not say I followed Basilly, Handleader," he replies, after a moment. Then he continues on to say, "One of the guards at the Temple of Donai told me that Basilly had gone off to the Scholar's Ward and, as I could not sleep, I decided to follow to see if Basilly was working on something that might pertain to the death of my master... It is actually something of a coincidence that we ended up in the same place, isn't it?"
For Dora:
[OOC: Dora's Passive Insight tells her that this man is being very careful about what he is saying, but that could be just his normal way. She doesn't know, as this is not someone she is familiar with.]
For Guilliame:
[OOC: The man's words sound calculated, but perhaps what catches Guilliame's attention more is Basilly's frown.]
Instead of waiting for an answer to his, perhaps rhetorical, question, he then adds, "Is this interrogation over now, Handleader? May I go now?"

"Do you think it is worth putting an audible Alarm spell inside the house so if there is movement the guards will hear a gong?"
Basilly turns to Guilliame with some surprise and says, "If you can do that, please do. It is not a ritual I know."

"Actually it might be more effective just to put a physical barrier in front of the door. Is that worthwhile?"
