Once Velma gets over her initial shyness, she is quite open while talking with Guilliame.

She comes from a poor family and is the oldest daughter of two. Her father left her mother when Velma was about twelve and hasn't been seen since, but Guilliame gets the impression from Velma that there is no love lost between the man and the rest of the family.

Velma was 'diagnosed' with innate sorcery when she was about fifteen and strange things started to happen around her. For this reason, she was given the king's patronage, and allowed to attend the School of Occult Studies so she could learn to control her sorcererous abilities. This training also included being taught how to read and write the Sorendenese language, which make Velma fall in love with reading, books, and the library, which became her favourite place in the School.

Velma's sorcery is not strong, but she is a journeyman magi like Guilliame, and was lucky enough to have Master Nathaniel, the former librarian, request she serve out her patronage as assistant librarian in the School; that was a number of years ago and she now has only three months service to do to finish paying for her patronage. Velma considers this job to be a good one—especially considering what she might have to be doing in the outside world—and wouldn't mind staying on in the position, but on higher pay to help her family.

[[During this conversation, I am going to assume that Guilliame has told Velma about Naomi and the death of his parents and even how he got the 'de' in his name. However, he hasn't yet revealed anything about his time adventuring before being identified by Wamzut as a latent sorcerer.]]

Eventually, the two of them realise that the eating hall is now empty and that the kitchen staff are wanting to clear the tables.

Head up to the library and look up Summoning the Fey. 

Velma and Guilliame make their way to the library where they part so that Velma can go back to her duties.

Guilliame then makes his way upstairs and retrieves the book he is looking for. He then finds a table and begins to read.

Guilliame spend the rest of the afternoon reading Summoning the Fey but doesn't find anything that directly answer his question. He does, however, think it is an interesting book and that it might be useful referring to again if he can find out more information.

As he closes the book, he realises that Velma must have already done her rounds because the sconces on the wall that contain the eternal flames have been uncovered.

Head home. If Guilliame hears Velma say good evening and head home taking no unusual precautions.

Guilliame leaves the library without seeing any sign of Velma and heads towards the entrance of the School where he is met by Braxa and the Sorian student called Seb, who seems to be doing duty as the door attendant at the moment.

Braxa looks enthusiastically like he would be interested in saying hello... Or perhaps that's goodbye... Or perhaps any excuse for a pat is good enough.

"Hello, Journeyman de Marchant," says Seb as he moves to open the door for Guilliame. "A very unusual day, wasn't it?"

"It certainly was. What do you think happened?"

Give Braxa a pat.

"Clearly the goddess herself is amongst us," says Seb fervently. "Master Minton vouched for her himself, before she healed him."

"Has Master Minton has been healed of being able to read others thoughts?"

"Yes," replies Seb nodding. "He was ecstatic. It seems he didn't much like being able to hear everyone's thoughts, which was a little bit of a surprise to me."

"I guess he can deal with people on an equal footing now. I'm sure that plenty of people were worried about having their thoughts discovered and didn't appreciate him for who he is."

Seb nods and opens the door for Guilliame. "We live in interesting times," he says, as he lets Guilliame out.

He then adds, "Speaking of which, you should take care on the streets. I heard tell there an Alfaren assassin about."

"What would an Alfaren assassin be doing here I wonder. Anyway I'll keep an extra good lookout. Thanks for the warning. Good evening."

Don't take any extra precautions on way back other than a quick look down the home street before entering the house.

Guilliame steps out into the street. It is dusk and the eternal flames of the streetlights are being uncovered one by one by a team of city workers moving along the street. 

Heading home, Guilliame starts to smell smoke and, looking up, he sees a dark pall rising into the sky.

Continue home a little bit faster.

It soon becomes clear that while the fire is in the Scholar's District it is, thankfully, not in Guilliame's street.
