Guilliame is interrupted while working on the design for the shop sign by a customer enquiry. 

Leaving his drawings on the kitchen table, Guilliame enters the shop to see that the customer is a Stemian man in his middle thirties who he faintly recognises as having seen in the neighbourhood. The man is dressed in the leather apron of a workman and the singe marks on the apron make Guilliame think he is some sort of smith or metal worker.

"My grandson will surely be able to help you," says Granny Naomi proudly. "He's a wizard at the School of Occult Studies."

"That would be grand if he could," says the man putting something about a foot long and wrapped in an oily cloth down on the counter. He then opens up the cloth to reveal a dagger with a rune-carved, polished bronze blade and a brass hilt, one side of which is damaged. 

"The name's Tedric," says the customer, extending his hand welcomingly. "I was wondering what you could tell me about this blade and how much it would cost me? We think it's magical."

"Good afternoon Tedric. My name is Guilliame. I can't tell you how much it is worth but I can see if it is magickal or not."

Do a See the arcane on it.

Guilliame closes his eyes and opens them with his mage sight active. The bronze blade has a higher concentration of magic particles than the brass hilt and Guilliame can see the magic flowing around the lines of the runes carved into it. The amount of magic on the hilt looks to be normal for brass.

[OOC: Make an Arcana to determine the School of Magic involved. The roll needs to be made at Disadvantage because this is not a magic that Guilliame is familiar with.]

From what he can see, Guilliame believes that the actual magic active on the bronze blade is from the Transmutation school of magic. However, this seems to be at odds with the runes along the length of the blade, which from his studies he believes are to do with the Conjuration school of magic.

[OOC: To learn more about this item, Guilliame will need to use the Identify spell.]

"Well sir, there is some magick in this dagger. But if you want to know more you would have to leave it with me. There is a chance I will be able to tell you more about it but I will have to charge you for my time. An engle if I am successful."  

"Fair enough. Do you think it is powerful magic? And when will you be able to tell me what you've found out?" asks Tedric.

"I am free now. I can return it to you in an hour."

"That sounds fine," says Tedric. "I will return then."

So saying, he says goodbye to Guilliame and Naomi and leaves the shop.

"Good luck, Guilliame," says Naomi. "I will leave you to it and go and do something about dinner."

[Presuming Guilliame is going to cast the Identify spell as a ritual right now, please roll an Arcana check.]

Guilliame retreats to his bedroom to do the Identify ritual on the dagger, which reveals the following results:

1. This bronze blade has been enchanted using Transmutation magic to be a magical weapon and provides an extra +1 to hit and a +1 to damage to its wielder.
2. The broken brass hilt was only added to the weapon recently and it was broken by a sword blow; it has no direct connection with any spells on the weapon.
3. The Conjuration runes on the blade also have nothing to do with the main magic of the weapon. Guilliame can sense the runes have something to do with the ownership of the bronze blade and that they are meant to aid in the handling of the blade with the Mage Hand cantrip.

The power of the active Transmutation magic makes it impossible for Guilliame to learn any more about the dagger at this time.

[OOC: A better roll at a future time might reveal more.

Also, as this item is permanently magical and not requiring of a magus' power to activate, Guilliame would suspect this dagger is very valuable: worth possibly many tens, if not hundreds of Engles. He also suspects that the full capabilities of this weapon (though not its pluses) would require special Attunement by the wielder and perhaps the knowledge of the Mage Hand cantrip, but he cannot be sure of this as that is a cantrip he unfortunately does not know.]

Copy out all the runes (trace if they are raised).

OOC What does Guilliame know about Tedric?

The runes are inscribed into the blade, so Guilliame is able to 'rub' them onto a piece of paper using a piece of charcoal. [OOC: In the same manner as gravestones are rubbed.]

Guilliame recognised Tedric as being a local, but doesn't know anything more about the man. He was certainly dressed in the manner of someone who worked close by.

Is there anything distinctive about the design of the added handle - does it look of local design?

The handle is just sewn leather wrapped around the non-pointy end of the blade. The brass hilt has been pressed into position and look like many such hilts Guilliame has seen.

Go and tell Naomi I am ready when Tedric returns and can charge full price for once.

OOC I am emailing over a preliminary design for the shop sign to show Naomi. My thinking is to light up the Ms only so they are about 5 inches high each. (Magick will be held back in the dark ages until it adopts the metric system.)
