Zeno hisses at Rhayna, ”Rhayna, be careful of the obelisk and magic.” He will take the moment to hide on top of the mesa and load the new crossbow, taking a chance on its outcome.

Pax looks around. Suddenly she looks very distant. Lightning begins to dance around her hand. She looks at it curiously....and then reaches out and touches the obelisk.

Kaylyn recounts Pensive's observations, and the group react in different ways...
While Rhayna observes with scholarly interest, Pax impulsively touches the obelisk and arcs magical lightning into the dark stone, which momentarily emits a low thrumming noise. There is no other obvious effect, but Pax can tell the stone absorbed the magic, and gets the impression that repeating the experiment with a more powerful spell would probably produce the conjuration effect Kaylyn detected. The others make their way back across the bridge and down the ramp from the egg pedestal, with Zeno hiding in the darker shadow of the mesa's slope, while Kastix and Kaylyn keep alert. Sekkar rushes ahead, taking a shortcut by sliding down the steep edge. But he doesn't manage to hide in time before movement can be seen in the entrance tunnel.
A dark shadow looms, like an impossible shadow cast by the glimmering faerzress. From somewhere near this haze of darkness a voice is heard, vaguely recognised by Rhayna and Zeno, but distinctly familiar to Sekkar, who heard it speak not much earlier while listening in the cave of echoes. It speaks in Dwarvish, which Sekkar alone can understand...
Hizire Gulronthish, bidh sinn a ’coinneachadh a-rithist. Ach chan e dràgon a th ’anns an dràgon ruadh leis a’ chlaidheamh gleansach. Dh ’fhaodadh mi a bhith air do chuir an grèim agus do chur gu bàs airson a bhith a’ mealladh an geàrd cloiche, ach tha thu air trioblaid gu leòr a dhèanamh dhomh, agus chan fhàg thu an uamh seo.
Hizire Gulronthish, we meet again. But the red dragonborn with the glowing sword isn't a dragonborn after all. I could have you arrested and executed for deceiving the Stone Guard, but you've caused me enough trouble, and you'll not leave this cave.
The voice ceases, but the speaker becomes visible, standing in front of the shadow. It is clearly a duergar for its size, but its face is shrouded in a cloak of deep black. From within its dark robe a hand emerges, and with a buzzing sound a dull glowing blade extends from the hand. The dark shadow behind the speaker slowly rises in the air...
It is at this moment that the flumph floats toward Sekkar, and speaks into his mind: A demon is using telepathy. It is speaking to the duergar. You asked me to tell you.
Roll for initiative (if you haven't already). If you are attempting to detect invisible creatures, roll a Perception check. I have action for Zeno, but new information now so can change if you wish.
Black = shadow demon. Grey = Duergar boss. Dark green = Sekkar. Orange = Zeno. Red = Kastix. Yellow = Kaylyn. Light green = Pax. Purple = Rhayna. Sorry if these aren't your normal colours, but I ran out of time. (Live D&D session starting in 13 minutes)

Pax will fire an Eldritch blast at the bad shadow man if a fight breaks out, but holds her action otherwise. She says out loud, "What's going on, what's this Duegar saying?"
(Unfortunately the scholarly cleric doesn’t know Dwarvish.)

Sekkar intends to bottleneck the entrance, attacking the first one brave enough to come to him. As soon as the first attacker withing the reach (Sekkar is not moving but waiting on place) he activates Dawnbringer and attacks:
(Just to clarify... the central duergar who spoke to Sekkar is indeed Sgt Gorlak. Accompanying him is a shadow demon and two other duergar. Gorlak himself is not a demon. Sorry if that was confusing)

Rhayna stands on the top of the obelisk peak, observing the battlefield and whispering a silent prayer to Selune for inspiration. Sekkar and Gorlak face off against each other, staring unblinkingly, each baring their respective energy blades, as tumbleweeds blow across the intervening space. Gorlak's off-hand twitches as though he is preparing some kind of spell, and Dawnbringer hums with anticipation at the chance to strike down these creatures of darkness. The other two duergar abruptly blink into view, flaking Gorlak, pointing at Sekkar with one hand in what he recognises as the mark of a predator, while aiming and firing hand crossbows with the other hand.
As the shadow fiend rises into the air, both Pax and Zeno release their projectiles, one purely magic, and the other charged with magic from an enchanted weapon. Both seem to strike the blurry figure and seem to blemish the shadow with momentary points of light. But as the dark being draws closer to Kaylyn and Kastix, Gorlak releases his spell, plunging both sorcerer and warlock into darkness...
Kaylyn and Kastix can go next. It looks like the demon was heading your way, although you can no longer see it (or anything else). I couldn't find any rules about moving while blind, but I would think some penalty would be appropriate here, given the risk of walking off the cliff. Any thoughts?
