Zorg's Lost Souls

Pax considers the reply on eating flesh, finally she responds, somewhat lamely, "Ya, but....that's different."  

Pax turns to the rest of the group, "Wonderful. Three birds with one stone. We get to satisfy our own human born destructive curiosity, we can let Rhayna follow her strange urges, and we can help Basidia hopefully solve a bit of a mystery. How can we refuse?" 

"Food's food. Only issue is if it makes you sick or not," Kastxi replies, "I really hate not knowing things that could be a problem. at least we know something's coming,"

"Something is always coming around here." Sekkar was getting more skeptical about chances for the group to rest here by the minute. "So... can we just go and look?"

Zeno was skeptical of all of this, and his instincts were urging him to run before this creepy, trippy place became a true nightmare.  But he was with this team now, and there would be no running...at least not now.  He checked his gear, making sure the crossbow was loaded, and the scorpion cane was secure near his side. “I’m good to explore. But surely they’re not going to like us sneaking into their space.”

Basidia explains that the myconid's daily routine follows a set cycle. For eight hours they work, for eight hours they meld together (which is just about to happen) and for eight hours they sleep. If the softers wish to enter the far cavern without requesting permission, then the sleep period would be the time to do it. When asked why Basidia doesn't enter the cavern during this part of the cycle, it replies somewhat flatly 'because I also sleep' as it the thought of NOT following the routine never entered its mind. However it does warn that the spore servants do not sleep and will remain alert, and that two particularly fearsome spore servants guard the path through the ravine. Looking that way the group notice two rather large creatures with four legs, two huge pincers, chitinous shell coverings and tentacles for mouths, along with fungus and mushrooms growing out of their heads. (Some of the group might remember seeing one of these creatures standing on a rock in the deepest part of the Darklake).

"So are those under your control?" Kastix questionas s he points to the crab monstrosity. 

Basidia says they were created and are controlled by Phylo. Normally spore servants will obey orders from any myconid, but they give priority to the orders from the highest ranked myconid. Basidia is equal in authority to Phylo, but the servants created by one sovereign will prioritise that sovereign's order over another's. Also they were created with the same tainted spores that Phylo and many of his adherents share, and Basidia has difficulty establishing a rapport with them.

Rhyana asks Basidia, and also to the group at the same time. "Well. As I stated previously, I have received the Lady's Gift. What if I commune/meld with any fungi patch, and just show up inside of Yggmorgus? You know, just to take a peek at what's inside. At any sign of danger, I would commune back." Rhayna looks around her companions for their reaction. "Would that be acceptable Sovereign Basidia?"

Rhyana adds later. "To tell the truth, I am very afraid, yet, I yearn to learn what is inside of it."

"Go for it!" Sekkar was to curious (for the right reasons - he sensed danger) to pass on the opportunity. Besides, it was the safest recon. "Would you be able to show what you saw to us and Basidia?"

Basidia consents to Rhayna's suggestion, although it has never encountered a softer who can travel through fungus like Rhayna describes. Rhayna feels confident that the power of the rapport spores will allow her to telepathically convey her observations efficiently.

(Well, Rhayna does take the notes including pictures, right? If she is very fast...)

Can we do it before 8 hours communing begins?

Yes. The eight hours of 'melding' will commence soon after the conversation with Basidia has finished, but you can decide on a course of action and put it into effect before the melding starts if you like. I described it early just for convenience.

Pax shuffles back and forth on her feet nervously, looking at the giant lobster things and Rhayna.....the blank look of not understanding whats going on is smeared across her face.  

"I am fine with doing what we are going to do after the melding commences." Says Rhayna, she could wait a couple more minutes.

"Well, hopefully you don't get caught up in the melding." Kaylyn laughs as they make their plans.  

So the plan is for Rhayna to stride to the Yggmorgus mushroom tower, have a quick look around, then stride back. Any other actions before this occurs?

I'm also assuming this happens after the melding period begins, unless there are any objections.

I thought the whole idea is to do it before melding, so the Basidia can inform others of happenings? Waiting for 8 more hours sounds a bit dangerous.

"Hummm... Sekkar does have a point. I am fine going there now, if you guys don't have any objections." Rhayna looks around for a good spot to do her thing. "I would be back before you know it. I hope."

Taking a deep breath, Rhayna walks to a nearby stand of trillimac mushrooms and closes her eyes. She focuses for a moment, drawing on the magic from the Lady's Gift, touches the thickest stalk of the group, then walks into it as if it were made of water, and disappears. The rest of the group patiently wait for her return...
