Pax looks to Kaylyn, "Thank you. I just...I'm quite certain my family would not be particularly proud of my accomplishments, but....am wondering if it is perhaps it is they who have a failing, and not my deeds. I'm sorry, you don't need to hear about a daughter and her daddy issues. We're grown people. Heroes even. Though, even now I say it and doubt seeps into my heart. Stupid. I'll be fine. Thank you. You did well today, I am always impressed by you."
She accepts the scroll, "Well...fantastic. I'll try my best to make use of this at the most opportune moment..."
When the Stoneheart Gnome offers her assistance, Pax nods, blushing, and....graciously accepts the offer, though still feels pangs of guilt.
As she spends some time reading though the books, her jaw drops with the magnitude of the power of the spells in the 2nd book. Far beyond her, perhaps forever...but she promises herself that she'll dedicate herself to learning as much as she can from now on.
(Will spend a few hours recording spells before the long rest.....say 2.5 hours, a 2nd level spell and a 3rd level....which is 250gold in arcane supplies.)

After a restful sleep the group arises to find that all preparations have been made for departure. Three merchant carts are loaded with ore, gems and other sundries for trading, each of which is hitched to a large lizard. Three gnome merchants are in the convoy, along with a mage of the Stoneheart Enclave, two earth elementals, and two gnome warriors. The convoy departs with little fanfare, typical of the deep gnomes and their lack of ceremony. Despite being hailed as heroes, the group can scarcely expect that the gnomes will raise a statue in their honor, as suggested by the paucity of their history and veneration of great deeds. It isn't for lack of enthusiasm though, as all of the major leaders of the city are present to wish the group well.
The group is hardly out of the city when the oppressive feeling returns, the weight of the miles of rock overhead seeming to bear down on them again, and the long, lonely silence of the endless tunnels scraping at the back of the mind. The journey to Mantol-Derith is expected to take about 4 days, and the convoy seems to be heading east in the direction of the Darklake, but also steadily climbing. Less than an hour out of Bligdenstone, the tunnel is wide and flat, with numerous small clefts and nooks in the rock on either side making a patchwork of shadow and darkness...

Sekkar kept at the head of the procession - not that he did not trust the gnomes, but it is always better to see for yourself. One thing you can not ever trust in the Underdark is the safety of the tunnels - they are your best friends, but the worst enemy too.

Pax, shrouded in shadows, marches along near the front, letting Sekkar do his thing. She seems to feel at ease with such a large group and does take the traveling time to occasionally drop back with the wizard and discuss arcane matters, should he be open to it.
At the head of the column, Sekkar's instincts give him an uneasy feeling. His sharp hearing picks up what might be a whispered word ahead. The sound seems close enough that he should be able to see the source, but all he sees is darkness. The lizardman stops short and signals the party to halt, and the wagons are immediately pulled to a stop. Pax and Kaylyn are further down in the line, and with their magically-enhanced sight they can just make out several humanoid figures in the darkness ahead. Kastix and Rhayna are further back and cannot see what the others see, but Rhayna is certain there is nothing behind them or on either side.

The darkness in the tunnel ahead seems to move or spread across the width of the passage. Sekkar's sharp eyes detect the sound of humanoids moving and whispering, but he can see no-one. Suddenly two ghostly flails appear in the air, behind and to either side of him.
Kaylyn:
The figures in the tunnel ahead move swiftly and silently, spreading out across the width of the tunnel, as the darkness spreads with them. Suddenly two ghostly flails appear in the air about tewnty feet ahead of Kaylyn.
Pax:
The figures in the tunnel ahead move swiftly and silently, spreading out across the width of the tunnel, as the darkness spreads with them. Suddenly two ghostly flails appear in the air about forty feet ahead of Pax.
Rhayna:
Rhayna moves up beside Pax. She knows there is trouble ahead, but can see little in the darkness. Her keen powers of observation however can detect the sound of movement.
Kastix:
Kastix is furthest back in the company, and despite his darkvision, he can see nothing of whatever is causing concern up ahead.
Pax, Kastix, Kaylyn and Sekkar can all take a turn.
I have assumed that Rhayna has a Light spell active, and that Dawnbringer is not activated. Let me know if either is incorrect, or if there are any other light sources.
If you have a map, I've included a grid reference for your convenience. Well, for my convenience really.

Pax's eyes dart about the battlefield, the gift from her dark celestial patron letting her see through the darkness. Suddenly feeling more at home in this place than ever before, she strides forward, ready to do combat. She shouts out to the group as she moves, "Ten enemies, all shrouded in darkness coming at us from ahead. Drow no doubt!"
She's about to summon her shadows and stride forward....but...realizes she has a chance to hit a large group, and so for the first time she moves moves her hands in a small circle and points her sword forward and a ball of fire arcs out...exploding within the group of 6 in the center of the attack.
She taps her heels together (Bonus Action), then rushes forward to E30, taking cover behind the stone. She'll stay out where she can see until getting to the stone and moving behind it, just to get a better look at what's coming.
