They must have been out of their minds (kuo-toa generally are, but to assault a quaggoth like that one has to be beyond madness). The scratch, that kuo-toa caused, was insignificant, but Derendil retaliated viciously:
Pax mutters to herself, "Right, hostile then...there is something wrong with them though.."
One of their weapons slams off of her armor. She taps her boots together and casts a spell on herself. The shadows around her intensify and flecks of ice can been seen glimmering in the air near her. ([Tooltip Not Found] at 3rd level). She then intentionally walks past all three of them to about ten feet past them. (Granting them all an AoO with disadvantage if they wish.)
Kaylyn feels that something went wrong just before they materialise and she knew they missed the mark. Confirmation is hard to determine as they appear in a room with Kuo-toa who immediately attack them. Not such a strange reaction to 6 beings who suddenly appear out of thin air right into a room. The rest of the party jumps to defend the them from attack and she is forced to do the same.
She focuses her energy and splitting the beams of her eldritch blast she fires one at each of the attackers that went around the table.
The battle is over almost before it has begun. The kuo-toa have their feeble attacks more than matched by the experienced team, and they are soon slashed, burned and blasted back to the other side of the room. Strangely, the pathetic creatures make no sound of pain or fear as they are dispatched, but fall as if they were nothing more than stuffed lookalikes. The blood is real enough though, and a cursory examination by Kirin confirms that they are indeed kuo-toa in every biological sense.
The room looks and sounds as it did before, with the exception of three corpses in the place of the three fish-folk...
There is a corridor to the west, ending in a door, and two open corridors to the east. There are several small chambers off this main room: the three southern ones have doors at ground level; the entrances of the northern rooms start several feet off the floor and have no doors but can easily be climbed into. All the doors seem to be made of some kind of membrane and have no visible handles or locks, but there is a small panel with a glowing rune beside each door. The low buzzing/humming sound continues to fill the room but seems to have no source.

"That's it?"Sekkar was looking around puzzled. He did not unsummon Dawnbringet, though - something was off and the lizardman felt it as sharp as his sword. He walked around peeking into each room (not entering, though) and around each corner, to check where each corridor leads. "Does not look like a usual kuo-toa village,"finally gave he his verdict. Not that Sekkar saw them all, but enough for that one to be something else.
Meanwhile, Derendil was staring at his bloodied claws. Expression of vicious savagery already changed into something that with some imagination could be interpreted as thoughtful regret. He smelled his hands, looked at the bodies around, and moved aside.
"Hey, one got you." Sekkar checked out a scratch on Derendil's arm (the quaggoth grambled something dismissive). "We need to think about your armor."He looked the massive figure up and down. "Or something like that..."
"Well that was interesting first journey into the Underdark. These strange creatures seems not normal based on what I've read. Maybe they're enchanted like puppets or maybe undead with some nercomancy?" Krin curiously investigates them while listing off less and less probable theories. Sekkar turned his head to the notion. "They had blood. Undead do not have blood." Feeling he said enough, he returned to the investigation of the place.
Kaylyn gazes around the room. "I am sorry. Use of the teleport spell had its risks and I am afraid we did not reach our intended destination. Just before the spell ended and we rematerialized I knew that we had not reached where we had wanted to go. Unfortunately I cannot say how far off we are. I have no idea where we are. I am sorry."
Kaylyn looks around the room, regret in her eyes.
"The helmet recharges in the morning and we can try again if we wish. But I cannot say for certain that it will work any better."
With a wave of her hand Pensive pops out of thin air and lands on the table. He gives Kaylyn a sour look and pouts a little.
"Don't give me that Pensive, we have enough worries for the moment. Please fly up and let me see what is in those room above that we cannot see into from down her." He pouts some more and Kaylyn gives him a dark look "Come now, make yourself useful." With a last look of defiance and with a bit of a huff Pensive flies up and looks into the rooms on the south that are above ground level. Kaylyn watches though his eyes to see what is there and reports what she sees to the others.

Kirin continues to examine the corpses, confirming that they were otherwise healthy creatures in every respect. His professional opinion is that enchantment magic is the most likely cause, since their behaviour was typical of being charmed, as though they were following previously issued commands to guard.
Pax focuses on her magic ritual, and everyone gradually feels their bodies magically adapt with the ability to breathe underwater.
Rhayna studies the main room. This place is like nothing she has ever seen or heard of before. The construction is entirely foreign to any surface race she knows of, and some things that at first seem simply magical (such as the glowing runes) are in fact some kind of advanced technology.
Kaylyn focuses as Pensive scouts the upper rooms, which certainly seem as though they are designed to be accessed only by a creature that can fly, or levitate at the least. Each room is simple and mostly unadorned, but contains a long bed and a desk, on which are what appears to be a few personal items:
- On one of the desks is a musical instrument of some kind, resembling a well-polished long black flute of complex construction with myriad silver valves and a wooden reed at the embouchure.
- Another desk contains several sheets of white parchment and several slender and colourful writing implements, on the end of which is mounted a tiny ornament that evokes the image of a squid. The parchment is filled with detailed diagrams of brain anatomy, as well as a host of other diagrams and writing in a language that Kaylyn doesn't recognise.
- One of the beds is laid a well-worn blue suit of clothing, together with a white shirt, a pair of shiny black shoes, and long red strip of fabric that seems to be intended to be tied as a neck accessory. The clothing doesn't seem magical in any way, but rather part of a poor disguise. In this same room, attached to the wall above the bed, is a crude drawing...
Sekkar checks the two eastern corridors, and sees that they extend a short distance before turning a corner. The one that extends south seems to have a strange glow at the end, as if something slightly brighter is just around the corner. The western door opens into a small room which smells foul, like refuse and excrement. Two stone walls compartmentalize the room into three sections, each containing a small pit, and Sekkar recognises this as what the humanoids call a 'latrine'.
“Hummmm… Very peculiar…” Rhayna says to no one in particular. “I don’t believe I have seen any records of a place like this. Perhaps this could be alien?” She fixes her spectacles, and quickly corrects herself. “Of course, by alien, I mean something that no one on the surface has seen before…” The Cleric then shrugs, and continues her inspection of this place.

Pax, finishing up her ritual climbs off the table and looks around. "I think it's clear that we've stumbled upon yet another demonic situation. Those creatures were probably mind controlled by the demons just like those mushroom folk in the big mushroom cave."
Pax glances towards the long straight hallway, and takes a few steps down it, then glances back. "Shall we?"

"Aliens are disgusting!"Declared Sekkar uncharacteristically passionately. "Do not go that way for your own sake." He waved toward the "latrine room". "The way out is south. Over there."The corridor was well lit, besides, with such a big party hiding was hardly an option. Sekkar simply walked south ahead of others.
Derendil, that finally snapped out of his philosophical contemplation of self-defense, followed right behind - the place smelled very wrong and the very material the floor and walls and everything seemed to be as alien as smells and sounds. He kept closer to who and what he knew.
Kaylyn is very intrigued and she casts Detect Magic to see if any of the items are magical. If so she requests Pensive to pick them up and carry them to her. At the least she has him bring him the musical instrument.

None of the items found in the room by Pensive or Kirin display any magical aura when Kaylyn examines them.
Pax makes a start down the eastern corridor, but turns back with a shrug as Sekkar confidently leads the way down the southern passage, with Derendil following behind.
The southern corridor turns to the west only to end abruptly, as some kind of barrier fills the corridor and blocks the way. The barrier glows slightly and emits a low humming sound, but is semi-translucent and thin enough to see through, like looking through slightly frosted glass.
Beyond the barrier, Sekkar sees a large room with columns to the right and left leading towards a large pool. Inside the pool sits a grotesque 10-foot diameter brain with sickening black tendrils. The brain is covered with sickly black lesions. Runes carved around the room emit a pale blue light on the scene.
