Kirin Int Save: 29 (Me liking new wizard right now)
"Come on....Give it a break or chill," Kirin points his staff at the Mind Flayer and to cast Snilloc’s Snowball Swarm centered on it as he peppers the aberration with snowballs.
Kirin - Level 15 High Elf Wizard (Evocation) - Zorg's Lost Souls - Overchannel Steel Wind Strike for the Win against Demogorgon Silas - Level 11 Human Cleric (War Domain) - Tomb of Annihilation Done
Kaylyn feels the blast of energy but her strength of will, emboldened by the proximity of Pensive, is enough to stay standing and fight off the effects.
"You will pay for that aberration" she says as he places a Hex on the MF.
She then sends blasts of Eldritch Energy at it
Attack: 29 Damage: 15 Force + 1 Necrotic
Attack: 16 Damage: 15 Force + 3 Necrotic
Whoops forgot to put 1d10 in damage for the roller and put straight 10. So 2 1d10 rolls for damage
Kirin's snowballs swirl around the mind flayer, but it twists with deceptive agility and twirls its cloak to avoid or block the worst of the assault. It can do little to avoid Kaylyn's continual blasts though, and each one seems to leave a nasty black welt on its exposed rubbery flesh. Not willingly to lose its advantage though, it turns to its nearest combatant, the lizardman ranger, and lashes out with its facial tentacles...

(Success or failure shouldn't make any difference to the subsequent attack.) 2) Tentacle attack. Make a INT saving throw (still DC 15) to avoid being stunned while grappled.
And just a reminder that Paxhas bardic inspiration from Kaylyn.

Pax Int Save for end of previous turn : 12 + Bardic Inspiration 6
Somewhere deep in Pax's stunned mind she hears Kaylyn's voice 'wake up Pax....wake up'.....Pax snaps back to reality, glancing around at what's going on. She sees the Mindflayer having grabbed Sekkar as if she were in some horror film...preparing to feast. No.....she won't let it....
As the magical blasts from her allies zip around her, she takes on a calm demeanor. She steps forward and presses her hand against Sekkar momentarily, letting magic flow through her and into his body....as she does so, her voice whispers to him, "Do not resist Sekkar.."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Mind Blast Save 1: 10
Tentacle attack: 12
The consciousness returned to Sekkar but only to allow him to see tentacles rushing to his head. Unable to move a muscle he could not resist neither the attack, not Pax's spell (not that he would try to - he would prefer to burn in the most vicious fireball, than to become food for the monster).
Cloud Sekkar was hovering now in front of the Mind Flayer unable to float away.
(In case he is able to float - he would do it and if I missed one Int roll - here: 4)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
((Forgot to declare which Ability to affect with Hex, so I'll go with CON. The target has disadvantage on ability checks made with the chosen ability.))
As a reaction to the MF trying to grapple Sekkar she screams at the creature "Leave him be you monster!" Reaction Cutting Words ((When a creature that you can see within 60 feet of you makes an attack roll, an ability check, or a damage roll, you can use your reaction to expend one of your uses of Bardic Inspiration, rolling a Bardic Inspiration die and subtracting the number rolled from the creature’s roll.))
Subtract 4 from the MF attack roll
Kaylyn continues to blast the MF with eldritch energy
Attack: 25 Damage: 10 Force + 3 Necrotic
Attack: 26 Damage: 12 Force + 3 Necrotic
While also calling out to Sekkar to embolden him "Stay strong warrior, you shall overcome!" (BA - Bardic Inspiration 1d6 to Sekkar)
(If Sekkar was never grappled, due to Kaylyn's cutting words, then she'll just cast Hex as a bonus action and tentacle rod attack instead. She'll affect Dex with her Hex.)
(Sekkar was grappled and stunned on the second attack, before Kaylyn could cast anything)
A Reaction is taken at any time, not on her turn, so that roll should be enough to have the MF miss.
Kaylyn is correct. Cutting Words is enough to cause the MF's attack to miss, which means Sekkar was never grappled, doesn't need to make an INT save, and is not stunned. The joys of forum play! So Sekkar can take an action for this turn, but for the sake of keeping the ball rolling, I'll just apply his actions after the others.
CON save v Frostbite: 21, 2 (disadvantage from Hex, but advantage from innate ability, cancel out)
Kaylyn's sudden taunt causes the mind flayer to momentarily flinch, and Sekkar is able to bat the tentacles away from his face at the very last moment. A tear appears in the mind flayer's eye, and Kaylyn hears a voice in her head... I'm not a monster! I'm a beautiful person! My name is Floyd. Floyd Peterson. Why can't people just see me for who I am?? But the heartless half-elf is having none of it. With extreme prejudice she continues to pummel the creature with relentless magical energy, while Kirin and Pax struggle in vain to fight back, and Rhayna simply stares with mouth agape.
Slightly shaken by the near miss from his most hated foe, Sekkar takes a moment to rally his courage and then acts.
Sekkar's action, then the mind flayer again (if he's still up). And Sekkar now has bardic inspiration. :)
Dawnbringer's blade slices up under Floyd's tentacled face and protrudes out the back of its skull, causing the mind flayer to go limp and slump to the floor.
Stepping over the corpses, the group turn the corner and enter the next room, seeing what was previously only described by Pensive. A single decapitated kuo-toa corpse occupies one of the tables, while the others are cluttered with surgical instruments and various labelled organs.
Detecting no other enemies in the vicinity, the following corridor and its adjoining rooms are also discovered. The first small room to the north is open, and occupied by three more kuo-toa, shackled to the wall and standing in a daze with some kind of contraptions attached to each of their heads. Another room contains two small raised pools with tadpole-like creatures swimming about inside. Yet another room contains a single larger pool, with a large door built into the roof above, but doesn't appear to have been used for some time.
At the far end of the corridor is one more room. It is filled with brains of different shapes and sizes in fluid-filling jars. In the northern end of the room stands a large alien mechanical devices that hums loudly and glows with a soft pink-purple light.

Pax, absent of her usual swirling shadows, walks through the complex with a look of disgust and pity on her face. She doesn't touch much, letting Rhayna and Kaylyn do most of the examining as she mostly stays alert for any strange dangers that could occur.
She looks at the door in the ceiling of the pool room and says, "That probably leads up into the other pool room, if my sense of direction is working."
She is otherwise silent as she observes the prisoners in a trance with strange things on their heads....the tadpoles in the pools, the brains in jars....and the buzzing thing.
