The width of the chasm is... very wide. Like half a mile or something. You could stand on the bridge and shoot at the hole entrance, but only if there is something there. The holes go in straight and don't turn a corner, but still the target would need to be at the entrance in order to see it from the bridge.
The hole above the lair was only twenty feet above, so you could climb in there and then cast one Passwall directly down into the lair. It is true that it would cease to function as long as the beholder's central eye was looking at it, but would open again as soon as the vision moved. Anyone inside when the spell pauses would be ejected to the closest safe space.
Viscid Globs would restrain the beholder but not blind it.

"I have the ability to create a door through dimensions and pass directly into the lair. If I took Rhayna with me, she could use the glob wand to restrain the creature while others enter from the entrance to the cave. If we can restrain it we can cut the eye stock and then flee. It would be held long enough for us to then escape and teleport back to the tower. We need no kill it, just incapacitate long enough to cut the eye stalk that we need."
She considers,
"Or I can try to banish the thing. Then we can all get in place and then when it reappears we are in position to launch our attacks and get what we need and teleport out. But I think the glob attack might be best."
"If I remember right, we need the central eye, not an eyestalk from the top. So, we do need to kill the thing. But I like the idea to glue the thing to something first. Not an easy fight but at least we will get a chance."
"Here is my plan. Sekkar, Pax and Kirin are ready on the rope or by flying to enter the cave. When they enter they draw the attention of the beholder towards the entrance of the cave. Rhayna and I take a dimension door into the cave near the beholder. I help distract the thing and Rhayna moves behind it and globs it. We can cut the central stock or kill the thing. We then get out quick by rope or teleport." Kaylyn says.
Pax nods, "Sounds fine. But I prefer not to be swinging like a trapeze artist in from the cliff face in heavy armor, and I'd like for us to have another entrance or exit to the cave, just in case, so I'll be waiting in the cave above the beholders cave and I'll start by making myself a hole and dropping in from above. I like the idea of us attacking from three directions anyway."
To be as quiet as possible, Pax is going to wait until Sekkar is in a good spot so she can stop concentrating on his fly spell. Once she drops that, she'll cast fly on herself (plus another if it helps them get down more quietly, but it's only for the descent since she'll be using another concentration spell right before combat starts) so then flying she can silently hover down and into the cave above the beholders. Once there, she'll cast a 4th level Armor of Agathys, wait until everyone is ready, then, prior to the "go", she'll cast a Greater Invisibility on herself, and then right after she casts Passwall straight down, and jumps down ready to fight.
Rhayna nods that she’s ready with the wand in hand.

Happy New Year everyone!! I've had a few relaxing days away from the computer, but back now and ready for the fight...
To summarise (correct me if I'm wrong):
1. Sekkar climbs into lip of cave, in full view of the beholder, but invisible due to Umbral Sight. Pax ends the Flyspell on Sekkar. 2. Pax casts Flyon herself and Kirin (unless Kirin had other plans to get down), and they fly down to the cave above the beholder. Pax casts Armor of Agathys and Greater Invisibility. 3. Kaylyn and Rhayna Dimension Door into cave based on Sekkar's telepathic description at the same time as Pax casts Passwalland drops down into the cave.
If the above is correct then: - Everyone make a Stealth check (including Sekkar). This will determine whether the beholder is surprised or not. Everyone is still under the effect of Sekkar's Pass Without Trace. - Everyone roll Initiative. - If anyone else wants to cast any spells before arriving in the cave, then declare those now. - Pax/Kirin: Dropping straight down from the cave above to the cave below will incur 20' of falling damage. But Pax has enough information to ensure the hole is directly above the beholder, so the creature will be visible from the cave above if line of sight is required.
