[[Nothing immediately noticeable as they are wearing extra clothing to cover it up (e.g., Rawl's coat mentioned earlier).]]
While some casual banter about the trials and tribulations of being a guard occurs between Rawl, Eisdom and the handleader, Brand moves away to stand in the small amount of shadow being cast by the guard station from the permanent street light burning about fifteen feet above everyone's head. He then tries to jiggle one of the sacks that Rawl is carrying, but has little success because it is too heavy.
Rawl, however, does seem to feel something and moves a hand protectively to the sack just as a bell starts ringing back along the street in the direction of the Temple Ward.
Eisdom and the handleader's attention are immediately caught by the sound as well as the two guards still lounging by the brazier who turn their heads to listen.
"Something's up," says Eisdom. "That's the general alarm."
"Yes. Go and find out what's happening," orders the handleader in response.
"Yes, sir," replies Eisdom, who immediately starts to move off to do as he has been commanded while saying to Rawl, "Lucky you, You're off duty."

[[ Looking at options, if he wanted to, could be tear the bag? 1-4 bludger wouldn't seem to cut it, so to speak]]?
[[Probably not, seeing as the sack is made of strong enough material to hold the weight in the first place. However, there is no reason why Brand couldn't cut the sack with a knife just using Mage Hand, as that would not be an attack on Rawl directly and Arcane Tricksters are supposed to be able to pick locks using this cantrip. Unfortunately, Rawl's knife sheathe seems to be empty (He threw it at the Seeker and never got it back), and moving any other blade into position would be fairly obvious. Still, the knife of one of the others could be used on their sack.]]

"Well, I'll leave you to it," says Rawl as Eisdom moves to pick up a lantern. "I'll check in and find out what happened on my way back."
The handleader gives Rawl a nod and then turns and starts talking to the two men around the brazier as Eisdom begins to head up the street back toward the Temple Ward.
Seeing that Rawl and his cronies are in the process of being forgotten about in the face of something seemingly more urgent, Brand decides that if he is going to act, it must be now.
[[Eisdom is now 30' away up the road. The shortest of Rawl's confederates is in range, just. Brand needs to move the focus of his Stone of Far Reaching to that man, pull his dagger out of its sheathe and then try to slit the sack the man is carrying while he is in the process of picking his lantern back up. It will be a straight Intelligence check with proficiency bonus (i.e., +5) to attempt to do this because of the distance and the fact the man is moving. The sack will require 2 hit points of damage to be done to it to open it up enough for the contents to start falling out, if that is possible. The dagger being wielded by the Mage Hand will do the standard 1D4 damage with no bonus because the strength of the Mage Hand is set and not modified by any ability.
Therefore, if you want to go ahead, roll an Intelligence check +5.]]

The small man with the scarf around his throat is leaning down to pick up his lantern when suddenly his dagger slips out of its sheathe apparently of its own accord. Moving quickly, the dagger slips up to the sack he has over his shoulder where its keen edge slits open the sacks straining cloth.
Suddenly, there are gold coins spilling out onto the hard cobblestones of the road.

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
[[ Indeed, re: observer, though if he can stay hidden, he might use the new-style TK ability to interfere. Hi main objective is to make sure Rawl dies at this point, s if it looks like he is going to surrender or escape, he will need to consider his actions. If they run, ditto ]]
Initiative: 11
[[ Despite expecting to have little to do with the combat, I'm already anxious! I need psychiatric help! ]]
The handleader (Init: 18) turns at the sound of the cascading coins and after a moment's surprise says, "What in Mithra's name are you carrying around all that gold for?"
The shorter man, whose sack Brand slit (Init: 13), looks at the gold at his feet and then drops the now-empty sack, snatches up a handful of the coins and starts running for the bridge.
In response to this, the handleader shouts, "Hey you, stop!" and starts after the man (held action).
One of the guards in the guard station moves next (Init: 11) stepping out onto the road and walking up to next to Rawl. "What's going on here?" he asks looking beyond Rawl in the direction of the pool of coins.
Rawl's response is to say, "I have no idea, but you've seen too much."
With the special vision he has from his Stone of Unseeing, Brand sees a flash of gold as Rawl pulls a strange-looking curved dagger from inside his coat and plunges it into the guard's chest (Init: 9), its blade piercing the man's leather armour with ease.
The stabbed guard coughs blood and then collapses.
"Curse you, Rawl," says his taller confederate (Init: 5) who pulls a short sword from underneath the blanket he had wrapped around his shoulders, the blanket falling from his shoulders. He then points the sword at the other guard at the brazier and says forcefully, "Run! If you don't want to die."
The guard doesn't run, but neither does he move (Init 5), apparently frozen to the spot.
[[What, if anything, is Brand going to do?]]

[[Yes. The dagger is indeed magical. The gold colour I mentioned in the description was its magical glow, as seen with the Stone of Unseeing.]]

[[ Cool, re sack. Sounds like it might be a way forward. Will see how next 6 seconds go ]]
Rawl steps away from his companions and says, "Eisdom? What are you doing here?"

Rawl's two companions had stopped dead, but now the taller one pipes up and says, "Yeah, gotta get home before the missus locks me out."
