Brand bobs silently across to the opening between the two roof spaces. Carefully looking in through the opening he sees there is a big difference between this space and the one he is in.

It is clear that the adjoining roof space has been used a lot more recently and a lot more often than the one he is currently in: toward one corner, a number of wooden planks have been lain across the ceiling timbers to make a small platform on which he can see a number of small items, including what looks like an extinguished lantern.

Looking through the opening, Brand's Darkvision allows him to see a roughly rectangular area of the roof where the shingles look different. This area is somewhat away from the plank platform, but there seems to be a path in the dust on the ceiling beams from the planks to this area. He comes to the opinion that the rectangular area of the roof might actually be some sort of disguised hatch that would give access to the outside from the roof space.

Suddenly, a banging sound comes from the direction of the plank platform and Brand hears faintly someone saying "I've found something."

Brand retreats back into the roof space; if there are boxes he hides behind one near the batroom hold, otherwise he just remains hiding near his escape route and watches and listens

Brand turns to head back to the access hatch and sees the cluster of magic particles he believes is the invisible Adzo hovering above the hatch.

The mass of particles begins to move towards him.

Brand ducks around Adzo, then heads toward the bathroom hatch. What does Adzo do?

[[All Brand can see is the magic particles associated with the spell, it is roughly the same size as the creature he saw.]]

Brand moves to one side as the mass of particles flies towards him and then through the opening into the next roof space.

Moving back to the access hatch, Brand can no longer see what is happening in the next roof space. 

However, he can hear. And what he hears is the continued sound of banging and then the sound of wood breaking.

There is a moment's silence and then Brand hears a faint hissing sound and then a hoarse scream and a shout: "Help! There's a monster up there."

Brand waits a moment and listens to determine if there are answering shouts or sounds.

Waiting to hear what happens, Brand hears a single voice, shout, "Back, back! No!"

And then there is a fearful scream.

Brand continues waiting and listening, and moves forward a little to glimpse out the hole if possible, careful not to block the path back to the bathroom. He waits cautiously, hoping the commotion will attract the others and make some aspects of his confusing world a little clearer.

Brand moves back a little way towards the opening into the next roof space [[I think this is what you mean.]], but can't see much of anything without getting much closer. 

Seconds later, he hears a second voice, but cannot make out what is being said.

He moves a little closer....still avoiding obstructing the path

Brand starts moving closer to the hole between the two roof spaces just as the now-visible (and also still slightly magically glowing) form of Adzo—sans the magic of the Invisibility spell—comes into view approaching the hole from the other side.

Although Adzo is moving with intent in the direction of the hole, the creature's four eye stalks are scanning in every direction as if searching for something.

Brand whispers, "Adzo...It's Alaric...Are you able to tell me what you are searching for?"

At Brand's words, the creature stops and rotates backwards and forwards in mid air looking for the source of the voice, unable to see the invisible Brand.

[[And that is it for me tonight. It has been a very busy day for me. Ciao.]]

Brand tries to get out of sight of anyone entering the neighbour's roof area as best he can, and with no small amount of trepidation, becomes visible. Still whispering he says, "It's me. Melitta's friend. Over here. Do you need assistance? Can you speak?"

If Adzo remains silent, he says "if not, bounce up and down for yes...do you need help?"

[[ I'm assuming Brand has never heard of Beholders, has no idea what Adzo is other than some bizarre create Melitta picked up in a remote area or on another plane. Is that correct/reasonable? He does not know much about familiars, so he would not know it wasn't one, and would probably be thinking what he is doing is as safe as talking to Melitta, and that Adzo may be in contact with her...is that also reasonable? ]]
