But Vosel follows Brand as he retreats hoping to catch him by surprise. [Attack Roll: 6 ]
[ooc: Do I get advantage, or an attack of opportunity because I forced him to close with me? Also, does this reflect him moving first in a new round?]
[OOC: Probably best to wait until I actually finish a comment by saying it is your turn. If I want to use the die rolling facility of the forum, I have to post the message to see the result.]
[OOC: The Disengage action is defined on the D&D Beyond site here and its effect only lasts until the end of the turn. In the next turn, Vosel went first because of his higher initiative and with the Fumble result of his attack I determined that Brand has Advantage with his attack and the Vosel can't use his own Bonus action.]
Brand can now have his attack in this round rolling at Advantage.

[ooc: thanks, that helps]
Brand can now have his attack in this round rolling at Advantage.
Attack: 22 Damage: 6 (I set this up a +4, and 2d6 damage because of sneak attack)
OK...the damage didnt come out right; it should be 2d6 +4; I got 2+4....will roll damage again: 14
And I just realized I set the damage incorrectly, it's +2 not +4,. so that should be 12 damage.
[ooc: I wont complain about dice for a while. Venuss is back]
[OOC: You're not kidding, it's even screwing up my use of the forum. Let's try that again.]
Brand sees a look of grim determination come over Vosel's face, and the weapons master launches a series of furious assaults at him, seeing as he is within range.
[OOC: Vosel's Attack Roll: 15 ]
[OOC: Didn't screw it up this time and got the same to-hit roll. That's a hit and he does 9 damage.]
Vosel keeps close up to Brand hoping that the fury of his attack can keep his opponent off balance.
This time I do the attack/disengage maneuver again, and skitter out of his reach.
Attack: 12 Damage: 7
That would be a miss, and the Disengage action doesn't really help in a one-on-one fight because the effect only lasts until the end of the turn. Different matter with multiple attackers who could get an attack of opportunity though.
Vosel chases after Brand pressing him strongly with the fury of his blows and trying to force him back into one of the walls [OOC: Just prose, no mechanical effect].
[Vosel's Attack: 14 ]
But Brand's shield defence holds strong, and Vosel is now breathing very heavily.
[ooc: re disengage: OK. ... original motivation was on assumption he would need to close, and I would get an AOO; then I thought it might tire him more]
Brand once again sees some advantage in using a shield. That was close.
Seeing his opponent tire, Brand decides to stand his ground; he attacks then uses second wind:
[OOC: Sorry, I got no notification about your move.]
[ooc: quick question: are all 1's fumbles?]
[Technically, there are no fumble rules in 5E, but I like them and might formalise results in a table at some time. However, do note that there are no critical successes or fumbles for skill checks in D&D, just combat rolls. So you can't fumble a skill check, just fails.]
[ooc: re disengage: OK. ... original motivation was on assumption he would need to close, and I would get an AOO; then I thought it might tire him more]
[OOC: Certain weapon types and feats allow Attacks of Opportunity when an enemy closes, but none of them apply here.]
Brand once again sees some advantage in using a shield. That was close.
Seeing his opponent tire, Brand decides to stand his ground; he attacks then uses second wind:
Attack: Attack: 15 Damage: 7
[OOC: The attack just misses his target.]
Second Wind: + 5 HP
[OOC: Hit points adjusted]
Vosel blocks Brands attack with his shield and then returns the blow.
[OOC: Vosel's Attack: 14; Damage 5. ]
Brand is hurt be the impact of the blunted sword as it slips past his guard.
[ooc: I pretty much never get notifications. It's weird]
Attack: 8 Damage: 3
[ooc: am I correct in thinking that the room being 30' x 30' means that even a 'Dash' wont buy a reprieve? Nowhere to run]
[OOC: Brand could of course run out the door, but yes, the confined space means a Dash won't help.]
"You need to keep your shield higher," says Vosel, as he once more swings in to attack, aiming lower this time.
[Vosel's Attack: 8; Damage: 9.]
"And you should not listen to sneaky old bastards like me," he adds after bringing his scimitar in under Brand's shield to strike him hard on the thigh.
[ooc: the 3 damage roll in my post 72 is also being complained about; and the most recent post hasn't even been edited]
14
[ooc: a bunch of tests:]
Attack: 7 Damage: 5
Attack: 21 Damage: 7
Attack: 21 Damage: 7
Attack: 6 Damage: 4
Attack: 16 Damage: 3
Attack: 21 Damage: 4
Attack: 22 Damage: 6
Attack: 19 Damage: 8
Attack: 13 Damage: 8
[ooc: red blues and greens...wierd]
[OOC: That wasn't what I was talking about. The reds mean the die roll was the minimum amount (i.e., 1 for a single die), the blue is a normal hit, and the green means the maximum on the die. What I was talking about what an error message saying the roll had been tampered, and the damage result on the screen was funny. I went in to edit and checked the code, did nothing and the problem went away when I clicked save.]
[OOC: Did you make the d20 roll?]

Brand thinks to himself "What I need is a dagger in my other hand, and room to maneuver"...and utters a prayer to Venuss
[ooc: my tally is 17 damage to him, 21 to me...not looking good]

Muttering prayers to Venuss doesn't seem to help Brand at this time as Vosel easily blocks his attack with his scimitar.
