Captain Blackhand: Approaching the windowsill besides Elias, the Pirate says,"I reckon this be where they was settin' the lantern to signal the ship."
Stalking slowly from the room, Beric will continue silently down the hall to the east. He tests the floor with each step as he remains vigilant for traps and other dangers.

Moving further down the hallway, Beric comes to the next door and sees a glint on the floor in front of the door. Bending down to inspect, he finds a key lying on the floor in front of the door. The door does not appear to be trapped, but the door is currently locked.
Captain Blackhand: Thinking something off about all this, Beric listens at the door a moment before peeking through the keyhole or any cracks he can find.

Captain Blackhand: Waiting for the others to catch up, Beric presses his finger to his lips before carefully placing the key into the lock and turning. Cutlass drawn, the Pirate opens the door as quietly as possible.

As you easily push the door open, Reginald and Elias notice before the captain that a figure sits in the corner of the room. He appears to be asleep with his hands bound in the front. As the door opens further, the hinge hits a rusty spot and makes a squeak. The figure rustles slightly at the noise.
Reg looks carefully at the figure in the chair--does he recognize the person? Is he just pretending to be asleep with bound hands, or is he really a prisoner?

Captain Blackhand:
Sharing the Paladin's suspicions, Beric formulates a quick plan as he moves quietly toward the sleeping man. Mere feet from the captive, the Pirate opens his Captain's jacket to block the man's view of the others. Beric awakens the man with a Cutlass blade to his throat.
He commands, "Arr! Wake up, ye scurvy dog! Name's Captain Blackhand, but ye be callin' me Master, ye sorry landlubber! The last Cap'n shit his guts out and died at sea, I'm afraid. Bad clams, I heard. I'm 'is replacement. My first order of business is decidin' whether or not to make ye walk the plank to amuse me men behind me 'ere! Now get to spillin' everythin' before I be gettin' to spillin' yer guts fer garters!"

Reginald looks at the person sitting in the corner. You do not recognize him and in giving him a look over from a distance you cannot tell much about him or his situation. Hearing Keric's announcement, he stirs and looks at the group, just as Beric moves and places his cutlass to his throat.
He initially looks unsure of your story about the old captain, but the blade at his throat quickly changes his look to fear.
He says "Whoa easy! Some guys tied me up in here earlier today and I haven't seen them since. What is going on, who are you guys?"
Reg steps forward and says, "I am Reginald of Neverwinter, and we have been battling smugglers, thieves, and undead in this place. Who are you and what people tied you up here?"

"I...I...I was traveling from Waterdeep to Neverwinter when these thugs grabbed me and brought me here. Sorry, this is all very traumatic for me. Name is Ned. I am traveling to the cities to further our tailoring business in my home town of Triboar. I had been to Waterdeep and made some contacts there and was on my way to Neverwinter to meet some more business owners to work out a deal to sell some of our products when I got word that this town called Saltmarsh had a fairly lucrative textile import operation that I may be able to obtain good product for reduced cost. This would make our business more profitable and efficient. Sorry, I am rambling on. On my way to Saltmarsh these thugs attacked and dragged me here. I have been here since early yesterday and don't know much other than that."

Reginald of Neverwinter:
"Okay, so not just pretending to be a prisoner...but does his story hold water..." thinks Reg.
"I am from Neverwinter myself," says Reg. "Tell me who you are planning to do business with there and I'll know if you are telling the truth," he concludes.
Insight to tell if he is lying: *10
If his story checks out (as far as Reg can tell), he will go over and start freeing the man.

He beings "well, I don't know the individual owners, but I was headed there to find some clothing dealers to sell our wares to. This is actually my first time making this trek and I am just building the contacts now and will be working on moving merchandise at a later date."
Reginald, your work as a city guard had you dealing with many individuals and you are generally a good judge of character. The story that he tells is told well enough to make it believable, but his evasiveness, when questioned about Neverwinter, makes you feel he is not being fully truthful.
