Captain Blackhand: Listening quietly as the old sailors trade tales, Beric's cheerful demeanor wavers as a dour expression overcomes his face. He says simply, "Ain't none o' me tales fit to be told in such a place."

Hoping to change his mood, Beric picks up the pipe and says to the priest, "Why dontcha take a puff o' this 'ere herb and tells us if ye know anyone that might be int'rested in purchasin' the fine piece?"

Reginald of Neverwinter:

”Seems like a good deal to me,” says Reg, nodding at Keric, adding to Beric with a wink, “If only we had a fine ship to help us move up and down the coast at our ease...”

Captain Blackhand: Excited by the prospect of acquiring a ship with his new friends, the old sailor is glad that his knowledge and skills will be used for a good cause. Returning Reginald's wink with a knowing grin, he says, "We 'ave an accord!" Refraining from spitting into his palm this time, he shakes the Priest's hand and says, "We be glad to explore these wrecks fer ye. It'll be fun! We be needin' to gear up first, so let us know if'n ye find a buyer fer the pipe and be sure to put in a good word fer us with the shop keepers in town!"

When their business is concluded, Beric asks,  "Shall we visit the market, mates?"

Reginald of Neverwinter:

After the magic items are identified (and the cost deducted from the party treasure), Reg answers, "Aye, cap, the market will be *almost* next--first we need to sell the items we don't want to keep to finance our market purchases."  Holding up the treatise concerning the demigod Iuz and its minions they found at the hideout, he adds, " Captain Xendros at the Faithful Quartermasters of luz is our contact for selling the items, magical or not, and maybe this book will help you get in her good graces."  Reg hands over the book to Beric, a bit uncomfortable with the subject matter.

OOC:  Reg is uncomfortable doing business with a worshipper of Iuz.  As they approach, he will use his divine sense--if he senses the presence of evil, he will stay outside and let the others handle the transaction.

Captain Blackhand: Taking the book from the wary Paladin, Beric laughs and says, "Ho ho, me hearties! Don't tell ye be frightened o' this lot?" The Pirate flips through the book, unimpressed as he walks into the Faithful Quartermaster's.

Wearing his best smile, he enters and approaches whoever seems to be in charge. With a bow he introduces himself, "Ahoy! I be Captain Blackhand, recently retired Scourge of the High Seas! I be wishin' to treat with ye, if'n ye 'ave a moment?"

Producing the books and pipe from his pack, he continues, "Found these 'ere narcotics, erotic poetry and o'cult rituals, so nat'rally we came to ye! Int'rested?"

Brinehanded cast the identify spell on the pipe and armor. The pipe is a pipe of remembrance, the smoke shows your greatest achievement after 10 minutes and can be used once per day. Common magic item. 
the armor is mariner’s scale mail. Your swim speed becomes your walking speed and if you start your turn with 0 hit points, you float up 60 feet. 

Approaching the faithful quatermaster of luz, you find captain Xendros who is willing to purchase magic items. She is a red skinned tiefling who wears jewelry adorned with grim designs. Reginald’s divine sense does not detect any evil aura from this area.

Xendros bows slightly and views the items. She opens the illustrated erotica book and laughs and tosses it back down. She opens the book on luz and you can she a genuine interest on her face. She sets it down and looks at the pipe. 

she says “well, this pipe is a fun novelty to have, i am sure some sailor will want to to spice up their sea stories, i will offer 33 gold for this. The first book is not my style but you may find a buyer elsewhere in town, but the second is interesting. I will give you 20 gold for this tome, and if i may ask, where did you acquire it?”

Captain Blackhand: Pocketing the pipe, Beric raises an eyebrow and says, "Arr... me thinks we be keepin' this fer now.

Smoothing is mustache, he smiles and continues, "I also thinks yer much more int'rested in this 'ere book than yer lettin' on. Why donchta jus' tell me what's so special 'bout it and why ye want it, so I can go get drunk already?"

“It has ties to my homeland, it likely would be collected in someones library when sent back there as well. The long distance from there makes me curious as to how such a tome found its way here. Regardless, my current offer stands for this book.”

Reginald of Neverwinter:

"Captain Xendros," says Reg, "I hear you also sell magic items.  I don't have a lot of coin, but I might be able to find something of use if I can take a look at your inventory."  Turning to Beric, he suggests, "I know you would like to keep the books we found, but perhaps this one we could sell to the Captain, as a gesture of good faith?" 

 Reg will also help unload the acid flasks (the only mundane items left) in the market.

Reg looks longingly at the magic longsword, saying regretfully, "Sadly, I do not yet have the funds for this magic weapon.  Perhaps the next few days will bring in some additional income.  Thank you for showing us your inventory."

Captain Blackhand: Turning to leave, the Pirate remarks, "Thank ye fer yer service. We'll return, I assure ye!" With that, Beric will head toward the marketplace, on the lookout for a Smith offering a Cutlass to match his officer's blade.

Reginald of Neverwinter:

Reg is fine with keeping or selling the book, armor, and pipe—he is wearing the plate armor, after all.  In the market, he will sell his previous chain mail armor (at half price) but keep the spare Shield and Longsword.  

OOC:  It might be nice to have a magic weapon in the party—maybe we can trade the magic armor for the magic sword if nobody wants the armor.  Reg can try to work that deal if you want, but he will probably need to include the Iuz book to sweeten the deal.

Xendros nodes and says “new items come in weekly, thank you for your patronage.”

Captain Blackhand: Casually perusing the variety of wares in the market, the seasoned Pirate carefully selects everything they'll need to successfully board the smuggling vessel. Being his personable self, Beric shares a laugh with the shopkeepers before asking about any jobs, work, quests, missions, bounties, evil wizards, cats in trees, etc. in the area.

Finally, he'll seek out a Tanner to measure him for some sleek, form fitting seaman's armor to wear underneath his tattered vest and sea-stained navy blue officer's jacket.
