Badger is determined to get that wizard's backpack - not only for the cube that might be inside, but also for the spellbook that might be inside!
Move: 25' to south Bonus: Misty Step aiming to teleport to a point directly beside H3. Action: Snatch the backpack! Not sure what to roll here. Sleight of Hand perhaps? Badger is targeting the backpack, not the snake-man per se. I'll make a raw d20 roll and DM can apply whatever ability or skill is appropriate. 8

How does a red dragon blow out the candles on its birthday cake?
Sickle sees the fleeing backpack-carrying snake-being, and begins to sprint through the carnage after him. As he goes, his hands and legs begin to morph and hair sprouts from his body and suddenly there is a Jaguar chasing the figure down in the jungle. (Action to Wild Shape into Panther and pursue at 50ft. Movement.)
With the snake people starting to break and scatter. Grenk's eyes lock onto one with a back pack. He swiftly drops his sword and shield and pulls out his bow. For the third time this day, he draws metal across his forearm to bring forth the blood that empowers his weapons and summon's light to his bow this time. Quickly drawing and fires two arrows head out while he yells, "Drop the bag and you'll survive."
Bonus action: Crimson Rite of Dawn, self damage 6
Arrow 1 vs H5: Attack: 27 Damage: 11 plus 2 radiant damage
Arrow 2 vs H5: Attack: 21 Damage: 8 plus 5 radiant damage
Badger, let's use the disarm rule from the DMG, and then you can pick it up as part of your action. So it's a melee attack vs a strength(athletics) or dexterity(acrobatics) check. Which, I think sounds weird, the only "attack" that is vs a check. Strange. Anyway, please add whatever melee combat modifiers you'd like to your roll, if you aren't using a weapon I presume we treat it like an unarmed attack. Vs. Strength check : 22
Mal, H6 used disengage, then moved, which is why he didn't get as far as the others, so no AoO.
Grenk pulls back his bow, again releasing two blood powered arrows. He shouts "Drop the bag and you'll survive!" as the two arrows slam through the man's back into his chest and he goes down in a bloody heap.
Badger dashes after the mages backpack, and then poof appears next to him, and grabs at the backpack.
Silas, the Red Wizard responds unhelpfully, "MY STUFF FOOL!"
The guide looks around and sees Mal, "MAL! Goodness! Thank you! There was talk of a sacrifice!! So glad to see you!"
Badger yanks at the backpack, but the man is surprisingly strong and yanks it away with his powerful arms. He backs away from the gnome who appeared beside him, and then turns to continue running. (Disengage, plus runs another 30 feet.)
Everyone's action. Mal, your last crossbow shot was out of order, and the target is now down, so you can change your action.
Sickle turns and runs after the individual, shimmering into the shape of a black panther as he bounds after him with speed. The man looks back at the black cat chasing him and pulls out his sword as he runs.
Snake head 2, Human 4, Human 6, Human 1 are all quite far from the group as they run in two groups away to the north and west.
Human 2 has veered away from Human 3 who has the backpack.
Human 3 is 30 feet from Badger, Sickle bounds past Badger and is only 20 feet behind him, and catching fast. The guy is about 100 feet away from the rest of the group. A backpack lays on the ground about 50 feet to the north of the rest of the group.
The human snake man suddenly goes into slow motion. Badger dashes forward, thinking he's going to catch the panther, but with everything moving simultaneously, the man in charge of the physics engine would never allow such silliness and so his chance to wave is dashed against the rocky cliffs of despair from whence they'll never return. In his mind, Badger imagines a scene in a gnome ceremonial hall deep under the earth, his friends and family are there with him, all before the large painting of Badger standing in a jungle ruin scene, waving as a panther runs past his for the 2nd time. The funeral for the event that never occurred is solemn and quiet. The artist did an excellent job of rendering the humorous scene that never even had a chance to live to its full potential. Badger's brother reaches out to Badger and places a hairy hand on Badgers black dress jacket that was a hand-me-down from their father. He looks deep into Badger's eyes and says, "Pay attention or you'll lose focus on your spell Badger." Badger looks around the jungle and catches hold of his mental grip on the slow spell before it slips away.
A crossbow bolt from Mal slams into the snake man who grunts with the impact.
A few moments later and the snake man is down, peppered by crossbow bolts and taken down by the panther.
The group looks around. The distant sound of running of the other fleeing snake people is quickly fading into the background. You managed to kill five of the Yuan-ti warriors, including both snake bodied, one snakehead, and 2 human'ish ones. They have poisoned arrows, bows, and scimitars on them.
The Thayan Wizard named Dyrax holds out his bound hands to Silas, silently waiting for him to cut his bonds. The guide, Marchant, looks around much more cautiously, eyeing the group trying to judge intentions. He's an older human man, dark skin, Chultan, with a larger broken nose, greying brown hair, dreadlocks, and a crisscross of scars across his face and arms.
The two backpacks are collected and brought to the ambush location where you all quickly assemble.
Grenk spins around ready to shoot at the other snake man carrying the pack only to glimpse a massive furred creature rip into it. Assuming that it must be one of the crew he was with... or a massive stroke of luck, he turns back to shoot at any fleeing creature only to hear some distant ruffles of leaves as they run out of sight.
He holds his bow ready for a moment and the lowers it and returns the arrow to his quiver. Reaching down he grabs the leg of the dead snake man with the back and drags it back to where the prisoners are and drops him. Ignoring any pleas for assistance grabs his sword and shield and stores them in their rightful place. Only then does he join the others.
Mal turns to Dyrax and grins checking to make sure the knots are still secure, "Glad to see you are alive, I am sure my new employers have a few questions for you and I am not the one in charge and am not able to let you free as of yet. My new companions will be the ones to make that choice." Then Mal will turn to Marchant chuckling, "Glad to see you are alive and well old man, I am definitely impressed and you were right, this jungle will not be the death of you. I would set you free right now but again as I told Dryax there, I am not the one in charge but you have not to fear, they mean you no ill will."
Silas turns to someone else, "Anyone got a knife?" Pointing over his shoulder at the wizard with his thumb before moving to check out everyone's health.

Panther-Sickle spits a bloodied and slightly torn bag out at Badger’s feet and slinks over to the Thayan Wizard. His tail curls around his haunches as he sits, staring pointedly at the unscrupulous figure.
The wizard points at Badger, "Hey...hey..that's mine! Not hero's but petty thieves then...." But then he cowers back as the panther sits before him, licking its bloody lips and says, "You'll find nothing useful to you in there!"
Badger spots one cube in the bottom of the bag. It is carved with symbols of the god Wongo...the Su-monster...a shrine you've not yet seen. Then Badger pulls out a spellbook. He begins flipping through the pages full of arcane knowledge, smiling as he notes certain spells he's heard of or seen performed in the past, and when he sees some he's not familiar with. The wizards face scowls up and he hisses, but, his eyes darting to the panther, says nothing.

Badger makes quite the show of ignoring the Red Wizard, digging through his pack and flipping through his spellbook with just the right amount of curious muttering and knowing exclamations to highten the captive's irritation. The reputation of the Red Wizards of Thay is universal, even among the svirfneblin, and although Badger doesn't live by a great deal of rules himself, he knows the order as a general nest of rotten eggs. Finally, Badger stows the items back in the pack, slings it over his shoulder, and then peers at the wizard from behind his shiny helmet...
(Is this not intimidating?)
Wordlessly, Badger activates the detect thoughts function of the helm, and then addresses the Thayan mage with the following questions, listening both for the spoken answers as well as the unspoken thoughts and images...
Why do you seek the cubes of the trickster gods? What else do you seek, or hope to achieve? How many of these cubes have you located, and from which locations? What do you know of others who seek the cubes? How many more of your group remain here? How did the serpent-folk capture you?

"must be detect thoughts, use your lessons.....peanut butter toast, avacado toast, cube toast, trickster toast toast, toast, hope to achieve toast...."
This guy either really really really likes toast, or he's trying to conceal his thoughts....as the wizard manages to reply with answers despite his chaotic swirl of thoughts, "We seek to gain access to the crypt. We seek the soul monger." (thoughts of the soul monger sucking souls onto a giant piece of toast). "That is the only cube we've gathered yet." (cubes on toast). "We simply want to stop the soul monger." (butterflies on toast). "There is another group of Thayan wizards besides us seeking cubes, we split up to work faster." (a woman's face, half young teenager, half old woman, a thayan wizard...she's dancing on toast). "They ambushed us...." this in an angry growl....serpent people cut up and spread.....on toast. "....they simply noticed us before we noticed them, took too many of us out before we could counter.....killed the rest of our group...took us prisoner....said they were going to sacrifice us to 'Dendar'."
The helm doesn't directly tell you if he's lying, but he seems to know what's up and thoughts of deception are constant.

Badger moves inside the mans brain, digging around, cleverly bypassing the thought walls of toast raised by the wizard. And there he finds the truth. The leader of the red wizards is a woman named Zagmira, you've seen her face now. She is with the other group. They also have a cube with them, one from Shagami's temple, the one that you had found was missing. The ultimate leader of the Thayan's isn't in the city and is named Valindra Shadowmantle. He doesn't know where in Chult she currently is, but she's not in Omu. Zagmira, the leader of his group wanted a chance to get all the cubes and find the Soul Monger before telling Valindra, so she could find more glory. Their ultimate mission from their undead overlord, Szass Tam, is to steal the soul monger, but, barring that, destroy it.
