"So we tried lighting the candle, tried saying piggy. Must be missing something. Are all the candles in the right places to make the shape? Maybe it needs to be lit and put in the right spot for the shape?" Grenk says.
Ooc, I thought we did because I had posted that they should light the candle and if that doesn't work Grenk would say piggy piggy. We then went right into him saying piggy.
(To be clear, DURING his announcement of the plan, he said "piggy piggy piggy" and then saw the lever appear immediately......so you DID NOT have a chance to light the candles. Sorry if that wasn't clear.).
After a short discussion about what just happened, the group goes and lights the six candles. They sputter and spark as they burn. You then say "piggy piggy piggy" once again. This time a lever appears in the mirror on the NORTH wall. Badger uses his spectral hand once more and upon pulling the lever you hear a grinding sound....and go back outside to see the hexagon light up.
You proceed to the final room. The octagon. You push the key in, unlock the door, and push it open. From the hallway you look in. The ceiling of this plaster-walled room is fifteen feet high. A leather-backed tome rests open atop a wooden lectern bolted to the floor. Set into the wall behind the lectern are eight human skeletons, arranged so that they appear to be falling and screaming.

"You can look at the book, I'll keep an eye on the skeletons," Grenk says. He then goes and places himself ready to protect Badger should they come alive.

Oh right! Send the wizard! replies Badger. I'm privileged to be surrounded by such brave warriors. Fine, I'll go! Just give me a moment first. Badger scans the room looking for any hints or clues beyond the obvious (Investigation: 26).
He then peers into his crystal ball and focuses his powers of divination on the number eight - images come to his mind from the great beyond - some he recognises, such as spider legs and schools of magic - and some he doesn't, such as a small black ball with a white circle with a number eight inside.
He then takes a moment to cast Detect Magic and see what secrets this reveals in the room.
He then focuses his Third Eye, which is still attuned to seeing invisible things, and makes sure there is nothing hiding in plain sight within 10 feet.
He then peers into his crystal ball again to see if any new images have appeared.
He then activates the Detect Thoughts power of his helm, and uses it to scan the room for any intelligent creatures.
He then withdraws a small pendulum from a pouch and holds it out with a steady hand, concentrating on any vibrations from the spiritual realm.
Finally after an impatient slap from Mal, Badger assures the group that he is ready.
He adjusts his robes.
He preens his moustache.
And his eyebrows.
He ensures his sandals are sufficiently tight.
He checks his pouches again.
Then clutching his staff in one hand and his crystal ball in the other, he inches into the room.
Inch-by-inch.
One small mincing step after another, each accompanied by a brief pause of about 6-12 seconds to again scan the room.
He stops to take a nervous swig from his waterskin and wet his parched lips.
He turns to look back at the group and finds they are still within arm's reach and glaring at him.
He turns back and inches forward again, when a sudden shove from an unknown hand behind him propels Badger into the room. With a scowl and some muttering about ignorant ingrates and their lack of due caution, Badger walks over to the lectern to inspect the book.

How does a red dragon blow out the candles on its birthday cake?
Grenk walks past Badger who's still barely into the room and over to the book. He looks at it. It's open to some pages in the middle and has some simple writing, written in...oh...hey...look, it's infernal! Page 4: "See the lever clear as day." Page 5: "Spin, spin, iron spider." Glancing down, he sees that there is a concealed, but fairly obvious door in the lower part of the lectern, though it seems stuck or locked.

"Yeah, I can read this and there seems to be some sort of door or panel here that opens. Anyone want to try that? Im going to study the book." Grenk will flip back to page 1 one and read in his head knowing that reading a loud from magic books can be bad.
Grenk flips back to page 1. There is one line of a childrens poem on each page.
Page 1: Backward, backward, eight to one.
Page 2: Speak the rhyme until it's done.
Page 3: Keep the spider locked away.
Page 4: See the lever, clear as day
Page 5: Spin, spin, iron spider.
Page 6: Turn their flesh and bones to cider.
Page 7: Speak the rhyme and meet your fate.
Page 8: Forward, forward, one to eight.
Meanwhile, Mal moves over...oh ya, she can get this bad boy open. She doesn't spot any traps, so she gets her tools into the gap, and finds the inner latch and 'click'.
She pops it open. There's a lever inside.
But...before she can pull it....the group starts to hear a strange vibration....and a whirring noise that's getting louder and louder. Then everyone falls upwards.
(You are all falling towards the ceiling. You can either make a grab for something nearby, or take some other Reaction based ability.
Grenk and Mal are both near the lectern, you can make a DC 17 Dex save to grab the lectern that is bolted to the floor.
Badger, you're still near the door...so...you can try and grab for the door frame if you wish, DC 17 Dex save.)
Grenk reaches out to grab the lectern and hold tight. He tries to press down the book as well so it doesn't fly up.
Dex save 15, if its a magic effect he gets advantage 14
"Uh, page one tells me to read from the back and the back seems to reforword... apologies if I kill us," Grenk calls out. He then, very hastily reads the book backward stating at page 8 as that seems like the proper course of action as describes on page one.
"Not my place to say but I believe it may be good to tie everyone to a rope that heads outside the room just in case," Silas shouts from outside the room?, "Also are you ok?"

Badger DEX save: 18
The seam around the floor made Badger nervous, and he had stepped back just far enough from the edge so his feet were out of the room, but with the rest of him inside to check for danger. Expecting the floor might give way, he was about to announce his prediction of a long drop into disaster... but he hadn't predicted that the falling would be up.

The book seems firmly attached to the stand, which isn't the worst of Grenk's issues. His fingers slip from the stand and he goes crashing into the ceiling...which...in turn...shatters as if it's made of nothing more than a coat of plaster. This reveals another 20 feet of room above...which is filled with what can only be described as a giant spinning steel spider of death....and Grenk falls UP into it. (Grenk takes 42 damage.)
Everyone can now have a full turn / action. The gravity in the room is reversed. Badger is hanging onto the door frame, and Mal is hanging upside down from the lectern. Grenk is near the ceiling being chopped up by a giant spinning blade shaped like a spider.
"So we tried lighting the candle, tried saying piggy. Must be missing something. Are all the candles in the right places to make the shape? Maybe it needs to be lit and put in the right spot for the shape?" Grenk says.
Did we light all six candles?

Mal sighs and rolls her eyes once more and she once more crosses her arm in impatience after gently encouraging Badger to get a move on.
Badger looks around the room. He notices a thin seam around the edges of the room on the floor.
His Detect Magic spell reveals a hazy aura of Transmutation in the air...as well as Transmutation coming from the book on the lectern.
His third eyes sees nothing invisible in the room.
His detect thoughts can't find any other minds in the room.
His small pendulum quivers slightly as he holds it up....perhaps receiving a vague message from the spirit realm. Or his hand is a bit shaky.
Stepping into the room a few inches...and nothing happens.
