LSA is at the back. She has her longbow with her, but it's not in her hand and ready to go. Damn, she thinks. She'll have to rely on her quarterstaff. Besides... it might be risky firing arrows in such a close conflict.
She checks here dagger is there if she needs it then readies her quarterstaff.
(OOC) Oops... forgot the modifier. I'm not very good at working out what you need to do yet. I just looked what the go is with initiative an initiative roll. Should have done that before rolling. The site I reviewed says the initiative modifier is your dexterity bonus.
In that case LSA has + 6 for dexterity .. (end OOC)
@ finniusvon
Real initiative roll:22 (16 + 6)
LSA agrees with Stig - "spitting is disgusting. So germy! LSA decides her target is spitter! She'll teach him (her?) a lesson in not spitting!
(OOC) After consultation with the DM where LSA was shown how to read the character sheet (read? you mean it means something?) LSA discovers she's been gypped! What!?! The character sheet is two less than the site I consulted! (end OOC)
LSA's REAL initiaive roll is a mere 20.
Being at the back is clearly a disadvantage. LSA has to dodge and shuffle to try to get to the front to have a strike at the spitter. It's not how she usually battles. Usually she's "it". Working in a team will be a challenge.
“Well, well! Looks like these puppies have some teeth. Come, let's see if you have any bite for those teeth. We'll still take your stuff and send you running with tails between your legs.”
Fighting order: this battle was brewing, so no surprise on either side.
Virran
Swiftarrow
Redbrands
Naivara

During battle, please stick to your turn. Conversation that would occur around a table can still occur, but the actions of your character will only take place as per initiative order. I will DM that way and disregard (or maliciously cause you to fail) out of turn.
Standard actions (refer closely to your character sheet): movement and an action, in either order, plus a bonus action only if allowed by character sheets.
OOC: This is my first D&D combat in almost 20 years. Back then I played 3rd Edition rules. I know they're all based on the same thing but there appears to have been some 'streamlining' and changing of some of the rules and processes so please bear with me. I'm not afraid to say an initial "Battle for Dummies" would not be out of order, for me at least. If this would delay or hold up proceedings too much then no dramas, I'll fumble through and swamp the DM with PMs instead.
Quote finniusVon (OOC Swift has now become a mind reader, hearing Stig's disgust at spitting echo in her mind.)
She's just really good with body language and facial expressions! If you'd been looking at Stig (and LSA caught a glance at his face as he turned away from the spitter) you would have seen how his nose was wrinkled and mouth turned down at the disgusting behaviour! It was lucky he turned away briefly otherwise LSA would never have seen the disgust. Of course, she's assuming the digust is at the spitting, not at the greasy, dirty clothes they're wearing or even at the fact they've turned up uninvited.
in 5e the rules for the spell Hunter's Mark implies that it can be any quarry. Previously it only applied to the favoured enemy. Am I interpreting this correctly?
Depending on distance and our placement I may choose to use this spell if it isn't tied to favoured enemy
Virran walks up to the Redbrand left of the spitter, a ruffian with a mean sneer and scar across his cheek. Seeing Virran approach, the ruffian draws his short short. He brings his sword up in time to parry Virran’s first attack, but is not prepared for the second, which scores a hit.
Given the frontal assault and current group placement, the Redbrand prevents a sneak attack.

This example uses the Combat die feature which is the second option in the dice rolling. It assumes a d20 but asks for your modifier to hit. It then asks for you to put in the dice damage, then modifier last.
I’d love you all to give the hit and damage, in case it does hit.
The blade comes down into his right shoulder, causing him to bellow, then curse. You pull the blade out and his eyes focus on you, red bleeding into the fabric at this shoulder.

LSA targets spitter. She moves forward - feints to the left as if she's going to strike at the arm, but continues around then sweeps back low at the knees, aiming to unbalance him or even knock him over
Swift pushes past Naivara and heads straight for ‘Spitter’, testing her quarterstaff as she approaches. At the last moment, she grips it with both hands and swings it down hard. The force of the blow hits hard and you hear a cracking sound. The Redbrand stands his ground with a grimace, but it cost him.

Ok, just for action purposes, Asmodean's initiative roll is 16

@Finniusvon: how close are we to the opponents?

[OOC: excuse me DM - Where is BrwBrB in this battle?]
(OOC not sure what you mean - you are between Stig and Naivara. Did I miss something?
You have walked out into the street. You, and the Redbrands, are in a neat little group, the Redbrands close together not more than 40 feet apart.
Virran moves up to the closest redbrand
As he moves up he says back to the group "leave one alive"
virran swings twice at the redbrand with his daggers (first attack to hit woll be a sneak attack)
Attack one 6
Attack two 23

(OOC) Not sure if I've done this correctly. Based on what I've read I added 2 to the attack roll and 2 to the damage roll. I may be wrong.
If so, I'll roll again.
