You seem to recall that there was a time long ago where 'Orders' such as these were in vogue, springing up all over. They served somewhat as fraternities, but they did a lot of good and protected those who could not protect themselves. The villagers would often show their gratitude to their protectors, such as these, by helping build tombs and monuments to honor those who fell in battle or who had performed truly epic and heroic deeds.
Seeing the speculative look in Xanlanann's eye towards the brazier, Erhorn scuttles back to the corner of the room crouches and pulls a stained, much-abused notebook out of one of his pockets. He produces a quill, licks the tip, pops the cork off a semi-hidden bottle of ink that has apparently been sewn into his clothing and prepares to update some-notes-or-other on the subject of lighting braziers.
The notebook is probably not going to make very good reading for anyone other than Erhorn.
"Well, it seems we've found a monument or tomb, if my guessing is correct. Whatever it was, it belonged to a local knight's order; does anyone know of a "Delian Order" or a "Sextus Varius"? I'm well-versed in history, myself, but I've never heard of this particular order."
Walton questions, addressing the group as a whole. It didn't matter to him if nobody actually knew, for that meant he would be the man to make the discovery of this order's history.
DMs note: I think we lost Fredrick. I'll roll or RP for him and hope he comes back. Here's just a reminder of what's in front of you:
(There's STILL the hallway behind you from where you came, the Northern wall, where there seems to be some carvings on the wall, the Southern wall that looks plain, and the Eastern wall which looks to be covered in vines. The brazier is on a platform and is giving off some faint light.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(Sorry about the hiatus peeps.)
Frederick looks around, troubled by their predicament, not knowing how the party might progress. Every second that they don't move forward could prove fatal for the girl. He considers Walton's question for a moment. Back home, Frederick had been well educated, despite his best efforts to the contrary. Did he remember any Delian Order, or this Sextus Various?
History Check: 16
As he desperately recollected on his studies, trying to remember if these topics ever came up, he walked back in the direction that the party had come in from. He didn't think there would be anything worth looking for, but with everywhere else of immediate interest being investigated by others in the party, Frederick thought it couldn't hurt to retrace their steps.
You don't recall hearing about the Delian Order or Sextus Varius directly, so you're fairly certain he was not super famous, but most likely a local hero.
(Fredrick checks back the way you came from, but doesn't seem to find anything.)
(Xanlanann searches near the East wall, and, after a few moments, manages to find a hidden doorway built into the wall behind some Ivy. The door easily opens, revealing a short passageway.)
DMs note: Normally I'd have made you roll for it, Xan, but in the interest of moving things along, I'll give it to you.

Frederick Perception: 13
Before you is a very large room that seems to have been carved out of a cave. The walls are natural rocks, dark gray, with 20 foot ceilings. About 20 feet in there is a huge chasm, over which a narrow stone bridge connects this edge to another edge about 100 feet away. The bridge is about 5 feet wide and looks pretty sturdy, so you all could probably all cross it at once if you all went in a line. )
Spoiler for Walton, Erhorn and Xanlanann:
The bridge seems sturdy, so you're not worried about crossing it. The stonework seems pretty good. Nobody else appears to be waiting for you all on the other side.
Spoiler for Frederick:
The bridge seems sturdy, so you're not worried about crossing it. The stonework seems pretty good. Nobody else appears to be waiting for you all on the other side.
As you inspect the bridge, you notice that about halfway across, there is a part of the bridge that looks just a little bit difference than the rest. It's kind of far away, but you can tell it's a very slightly raised plate, about 10 feet across, long enough so you couldn't really jump over it unless you were very, very athletic. As you look around a little more, you see up on the ceiling a long, thin slit.
Walton takes the lead onto the bridge, gesturing for the others to follow him. He didn't like heights to begin with, but this thin bridge certainly improve the experience.
"Well, let's get moving before someone falls in, then!"
The priest calls out, reaching for one of his candles upon realizing he had no light source.
"Mm." Erhorn's tone is non-committal as he eyes the bridge. "In the interest of being the voice of reason, can we try not to slaughter everyone we come across? Some of these people might be open to helping us, given the right..." He pauses, as though searching for the right word. "...motivation. I hear bribery and lies about huge troves of buried treasure are good. Threats, too. I also note that I'm out of non-violent spells, in case that's an issue later on."
He pauses and pats his pockets, one after another and nods in satisfaction.
"Incidentally, did anyone notice the goblin talking to himself after I gave him the giggles? That seemed interesting."
DMs note: I'm making a DM decision and playing as Frederick.
(Frederick looks over the bridge for a moment, his Ranger's intuition and heightened perception telling him something is amiss. He goes over to Xanlanann.)
"Are you familiar with different types of booby traps? I just thought, because of your... skills... anyways, look."
(He points out to the middle of the bridge.)
"Can you see it? There's a little bit of a raised plate type of thing there. Doesn't look natural to me. I think it might be a trap. Do you think you could check it out for us?"
Xanlanann makes his way out onto the bridge, checking with the ranger to make sure he doesn't overset and is looking at the same thing. When he sees the slightly lited section, he kneels low to check out out
