Pizazz's Ravenloft and Beyond

The coffin appears 'normal'.  No traps, locks, or otherwise. The stone lid is thin and seems like something Meepo could push aside by himself if he wished. 

"That darkness should dispel any spell that creates light. I do not know what this is, then. Ok, back to the other plan. If Meepo should need our assistance, someone hit me. Not with a weapon, but hard enough with your fists to cause damage."

(If someone does and Mordekai takes damage, he'll use his Misty Escape reaction to teleport 60ft to the other side of the light wall, and be invisible momentarily too. Not exactly what the ability was designed for, and I'm not entirely sure how to explain it narratively! But, assuming you can teleport through/past/around that thing, it gets me there without costing a precious spell slot.)

(I will allow you to use Misty Escape at will without taking damage. I was wondering what the heck you were getting at with the punching.  LOL.  Darkness will only dispel light created by spells level 2 or lower.  And magical light is able to illuminate the darkness, as per the spell description. 

"A creature with darkvision can't see through this darkness, and nonmagical light can't illuminate it."

"If any of this spell's area overlaps with an area of light created by a spell of 2nd level or lower, the spell that created the light is dispelled.") 

"Will do," nodded Lionel having another idea: he activated the sword and broth it closer to the light curtains. They probably did not really have a fortnight to drop the statues (though, that idea was sound), but some darkness/lightness tests should not hurt. Right now he was curious what his sword feels when being near the light of the curtain and then, when it touches the light.

The sword passes through the curtain as if it were just some light. It doesn't feel different at all. 

(It was worth a shot, I struggle to find any viable uses for Darkness that don't also disadvantage fellow party members, so any chance to try and find a useful purpose is always fun)

Mordekai will wait to see what happens to Meepo, but if needed he will indeed use the Misty Escape without taking a punch from Lionel (who, along with Ketch, both seemed very keen to oblige.)

Meepo shrugs and pushes aside the coffin's lid, looking inside.

     Ketch starts digging through his stuff and ends up pulling out his bedroll.  "It's worth a shot," he says to the others, and then proceeds to try to drape the bedroll over the statue so as to block the light...  He'll ask if anyone else has one, or something else, to try to cover the other statue as well.

Ketch does so, but the statues don't appear to be the source of the light.  The light seems to be a magical curtain that exists between the two statues, and tossing covers on the statues seems to have no effect. 

Meepo slides the cover aside.  Inside lay the skeletal remains of a human. They're covered in a tattered white shroud.  Laying on top, roughly around the chest area is a necklace with a large holy symbol on it.  The holy symbol is a platinum amulet shaped like the sun, with a large crystal embedded in its center. It sparkles with power. 

((So the light just exists, it doesn't emanate from any direction at all?  If we put a tube through the light so one open end was on both sides, the light would still exist in the center of the tub?))

That is a fascinating question!!  Perhaps it emanates from above and below....or.....well, maybe if you had a tube, that may work!  But, no.  After rolling a bedroll into a tube and sticking it into the light, it would seem there is some sort of magical barrier there....and the light simply indicates where it is.....

Well as you say, would experiment small like rolling up a bedroll or piece of paper or such.  If it seemed to work then would worry about making a tube we could crawl through.  My first thought was a coffin with each end busted out...  But ok, moot point.  Still thinking... lol.

There is such thing as Misty Step or DD, but looks like Meepo is doing just fine.

((I've been waiting since before the Amber Temple, by the way, to level up and change out Counterspell for Dispel Magic. Given that this seems to be a magical light created by a spell level 3 or higher, this is yet another example of the usefulness of Dispel Magic. But we've not leveled up because we've not actually achieved anything in a while, despite much activity!))

((Well if we take a long rest...  I think I temporarily dropped it to try the how Remove Curse shenanigans and then we were here before I could re-prepare.))

(well, I give experience for role playing and so on, so it's not like you're not earning experience just for playing, but, the jump from 7 to 8 requires 11k experience, which is quite a bit...) 

Meepo casts mage hand and uses the glowing hand to remove the amulet from the coffin.

The amulet lifts out of the crypt without trouble. 

     ((Hmm, what if we make a chain? Each person holding the next person’s hand...  if we include all the skeletons we can probably get pretty far into the room without fully passing through the barrier?  The last smelly making sure to only pass halfway through the light....))

((The light awoke a sleeping scientist in Ketch? :) Because it looks like Meepo got what was useful and can simply bring it back?))
