Meepo, climbs down from his phantom steed to properly place the hole on the wall of the stairway. As the final lip seals the hole opens and there's the sound of crashing as skeletons and equipment all tumble to the 'bottom' of the hole. Unharmed, the skeletons all stand up, and shuffle out of the round hole in the wall onto the giant stairway. As the last one, rattling slightly, emerges Meepo pulls the fabric from the wall. The fabric goes instantly black again and he folds it up, tucking it into a pocket, and then climbs back onto his steed.
That done, the small flying cat flaps and bobs awkwardly through the air. As it enters the space of the landing, before it can even land, there's a bright flash. The magic field is gone, but it has been replaced by two large blobs of water that sit on the ground, swaying back and forth awkwardly, and a have dozen icy flying demons!!

Ketch leaps up and crashes his axe into the nearest Mephit. The axe slams into the creature with a crunch. And then the entire hallway is filled with fire as Meepo unleashes a blast of flame the fills the whole landing and beyond. The flames come roiling towards Ketch, engulfing the Mephit in front of him and then evaporating in a wall of stinging heat just as it reaches him. The Ice Mephit explodes into bits in the fiery explosion.

Both the skeletons are suspended in the thrashing fluid, but a moment later they both elementals lose structure as the combined strikes from Ketch and Lionel destroy one, then the other. The skeletons are left, slightly damaged and with some broken bones, but otherwise intact. Water pours down the stairs, pushing with it a layer of dust.
You glance back at the "calmed" spirit. Your fight did not break the spell...it must not have considered these creatures allies....or Mordekai's hold in it is just strong. You quickly proceed down the stairs and around the corner, out of site of the thing before the spell ends. Mordekai's little creature is stuck, like a 2 dimensional thing, to his pant leg as they descend.
As you follow the stairs as they curve around and descend into a basement, you see a high-vaulted room full of equipment similar to what you saw in Zikran’s abandoned laboratory. A bed, a chair, and a table sized for a person of human stature occupy one corner of the room. Stone tables arranged about the chamber are covered with half-finished machines, and a large dais built into the far side of the room holds a cannon mounted on a swivel. A dull blue glow emanates from the inside of the cannon’s barrel.
In the middle of the room is a glimmering white crystal, eight feet tall and four feet wide. It pulses with arcane and elemental energy, filling the room with whipping winds and biting cold. Standing next to the crystal is a water genasi with turquoise skin and blue robes. He is guarded by a water elemental and an air elemental.
Zikran speaks to the party, "That's far enough. Be wary, if you go further you will set off more of my traps. Who are you, and why do you come here?"
Mordekai is genuinely struck momentarily by the wonder contained in this basement. Quickly recovering, he bows deeply and says, "Zikran, I presume? We came across an old rival of yours. A pitiful and, in our opinion, somewhat jealous fellow. We overheard him talking to his companions about having trapped your home. Mostly out of a dislike for him, and assuming that any enemy of such a wretch must be a decent fellow, we sought to undo his machinations. When we found what we now presume to be your old home, he had indeed trapped it. With a dragon, no less! We dealt with the dragon and came to seek you out. We had thought to ask a reward for our assistance, although I now suspect you're indifferent to our efforts in redeeming your old abode. But maybe you have an interest in rewarding those who spited your old enemy?"
He hops back and forth on his feet like a child, and waves around the strange wand in his hand, "Indeed! Indeed, I can not even remember having a rival worth mentioning. A dragon you say! Well, good for you, I'm sure it's hoard was more than enough reward for your effort. I could care less. As you can see behind me, I work on a masterpiece of magic and power! Soon I will lift this giant stronghold to the sky, where I will float above my enemies, flying free, able to cast down death and destruction from the safety of my skyborne hold! Perhaps even, it will withstand the storms, and let the storm power fill it with energy so that it can lash itself to the sky through the black storms! Imagine such a feat! Well, I say, soon it shall be reality, most amazing! But....I really do have much work to do, and do not really like visitors poking about, so, if there's nothing else then, off you go. You've already cost me a lot of time and effort to rebuild my warding on the stairs!"
