"Meepo knew Mordekai take care problem." Meepo says, giving Mordekai a grin. He moves back to where he was laying down previously and is soon snoring away, holding his stinking zombie tressym like a teddy bear.
It was not exactly the best rest Lionel ever got, but it had to do. The night did not wash away the memory of an army outside, so Lionel tried to keep quiet. He looked at Mordekai, pointed at the door and raised a brow as if asking "still there?". Of course, they were still there.
Short breakfast - ration and water was good enough - and maybe a little strategizing before summoning? At least he tried to organize that. Pulling everyone closer, he whispered the first idea. "If the Princess appears in the middle of the circle - this is how it works, right? - maybe place skeletons around to fire as soon as she is here? With us doing the same. While one of us opens the door, so the army outside joined the fight? Or if Laffa here can raise the hut we can summon Princess, open doors and let the arrow-storm from skeletons drive the Princess outside to meet the army?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Post 6993, some preemptive rolling Stealth 24 / Percep 23. If more needed. Stealth 17 / Percep 17. I'm still trying to play on safe side and try to figure out how they're doing their camp and patrols.
"Meepo think bad if princess get free chamber." Meepo speaks up. "Meepo think call forth princess, then fight princess." He nods his head as he says this.
To prepare for this battle, Meepo casts mage armor on himself, protection from evil and good on himself, Ritually casts telepathic bond on those of the group in the chamber, and brings his skeletons and two zombies out of the portable hole. He has them spread out around the walls of the chamber, ready to help as they can.
(Having reverted back to his normal form by now...) As the group wakes, Mordekai begins a speech about having come so far, and having our hardest fight yet in front of us. Then looks to Meepo and lists the things he's seen Meepo accomplish, and the value Meepo holds to the party. Mordekai points out that this fight is not for riches or glory, or even a noble fight on behalf of others, as it was with Strahd. This fight is for the life of one of their own. He considers ending his speech with a loud dragon roar, but then remembers the army the other side of the door and refrains.
He then thinks of Ulthan, and writes a paraphrased transcript of his speech, but it just doesn't quite have the same effect...Then he tells Ulthan, "I think we're about to release the princess. Wish you were here!"
Mordekai, Meepo, Ketch and Lionel all receive 15 Temporary hit points. (Sorry Ulthan - it was really the kind of speech you just had to be there for!)
The sleep was as usual. The group awakes with blurry eyes and heavy bags under their eyes. You can't really recall the last time you had a good sleep without dreams of undead chasing you and bugs and creepy crawlies everywhere. It will be nice to get to someplace clean that isn't infested with bugs. Ketch's boots crunch as he walks on carapaces around the library. He flicks a centipede off his shoulder, sending the poisonous little bug flopping to the ground where his boot finishes the job. Mordekai's speech is disrupted slightly when he fishes a small mouse out of his pocket in surprise. The filthy disease sickened creature scurries away into the library. Lionel, still feeling tired, picks a cockroach out of his blonde hair and tosses it aside. Everyone looks tired and feels grumpy. Except Meepo who seems well rested and invigorated as always. His stinky undead flying cat flapping crouched on his shoulder. (Mordekai, Lionel, and Ketch, you all get 1 level of exhaustion after what seems like weeks of improper sleep. Disadvantage on Ability Checks.)
Ulthan reports in that he's fine. He continues to stay wide of the army, avoiding their patrols that scout silently around the large force. The winged things also fly about frequently. For the moment though he manages to remain hidden and safe. Ulthan manages to get some suprisingly peaceful sleep above ground. The wind soothes him to sleep and for once in a long while his dreams are not filled with undead, but just normal dreamy type stuff. Also, whatever bugs are infesting that library are not above ground. The area is clean and peaceful.
The group listens to Mordekai's stirring speech and feels somewhat invigorated. Meepo casts several spells to protect himself, his skull topped staff waving about as he casts the spells. Meanwhile the rest of the group does their morning routines.
As ready as it feels you can be for the moment, with the small undead army surrounding the circle and some zombies waiting nearby, you look at the collections of candles, the paper, ink and pen.

Well, the dude told you that you had to light the candles, and then invoke Nintra's full name...which...he was very adamantine be spoken completely correctly. There was no mention of paper or ink.
"Well, the Princess must know how to free her, mustn't she? Can you ask her, Meepo?"Just a few hours ago that hag was bugging Meepo constantly. Would be unfortunate if she stopped doing so now.
After preparing his spells and listen to the speech, Ketch knows of Meepo’s concerns involving the upcoming ritual and so casts his own… Divination done as a ritual so Ketch can ask Gruumsh how Meepo can perform the ritual.
"Meepo try..." Meepo says with a frown. He thinks hard towards the voice he has heard in his head. The thoughts are in his native tongue, dracconic... 'I am here at the place of your power. The candles are here, and I know the names to use to summon you forth, but is that all I need do, or is there more that is required? There is paper and ink here, which is not part of the ritual I was instructed on.'
After Divination is cast and any useful information is passed to Meepo, Ketch will go around the room and cast Light several places to ensure our room is well let and there's no unwanted dark shadows around. This will be repeated as needed, last go round being just as Meepo is about to finish the ritual... Ketch will also again ritually cast Detect Magic and give the room another go around. He's already taken 4 or 5 random books from the library so he has no need to withdraw more... Unless something catches his eye for some reason.
Ketch will also cast Aid and apply it to Meepo, Mordekai and Lionel. Each has their maximum HP and current HP increase by 5 for the next 8 hours. (Not temporary HP, increased Maximum.)
"That's about all I can do until the fighting starts," Ketch then advises.. and waits.
Meepo tries to reach the voice...but...strangely...it is silent. That ghost is also annoying absent when he might be useful. Thinking on it, Meepo's dreams were free of the strange fey scenes...though his flesh is still obviously tattooed by the curse. Perhaps it is something about this room.
Ketch meanwhile tries a divination spell, praying to Gruumsh that he should point the way to completing the ritual. Gruumsh's response is....silence? That is unusual. Ketch, shaking his head, wondering what went wrong with his praying walks about, looking for a good place to cast light. As he's about to though he hears a firm grunt in his mind. His eyes lock on the spine of a book amongst the bookcase for some reason. He walks over to it. "Selver's Ineffable Magicks, Restrainments, and Bindings". Pulling the book out and flipping through it, he sees that its written in common and that there are several dog-ears in the book, along with notes all up and down the columns. A page flips open to a chapter labeled. "The Candle Binding - particularly effective against creatures bound to light or shadow. Notes in the column, 'the spell will eventually fail unless powered ongoing by souls. brother Ezhial recommends the 'soul taker ritual' as a solution'.
He hands the book to Meepo and Mordekai to examine. The book clearly outlines the exact rituals that must have been done to trap the Princess here. It also describes the key to breaking it. Position the candles in a full circle around the ritual location. Light each one in turn. Speak the full and complete name of the banished creature. In the sidebar is noted, 'we've added the additional step of the ID to Ink. pg 214. He flips to this section on additional ritual modifications and finds ID to Ink, which requires as a final step, for the ritual leader to write on paper and ink their intention to break the ritual before it effectively ends.
Ketch casts Aid on the his allies.

"Meepo ready then." Meepo says after setting aside the book. He looks to the others. "Meepo friends ready?" He asks them. He starts to set the candles in the pattern described, if they are not already there, and adjusts the parchment and pin for when they are needed.
"Meepo knew Mordekai take care problem." Meepo says, giving Mordekai a grin. He moves back to where he was laying down previously and is soon snoring away, holding his stinking zombie tressym like a teddy bear.
"hrmpfh safe for now giant fancy tent lots of guards many other tents will scout about hrmpfh"
Long rest achieved for everyone in the tiny hut. The spell expires as the group begins deciding whats next.
