The bat squeaks in reply to Olin, "Small predators down there. Less now. Some gone. More come." Olin translates this in his mind, since all people are probably predators, the bat knows there are less people in the street now, but it has no information about where / when they went away, and has trouble differentiating the two children from Meepo and Mordekai and the group. Ug, stupid bats.
Aga strides confidently towards the house, pushing the iron gates to the portico open to allow her in, it's hinges screeching loudly, and then she tries the latch and seeing it works, the deadbolt not set, and opens the door. There is a small foyer in front of her. There is a lit oil lamp on one wall providing dim light. There is a carpet runner that is worn, but appears fairly nice. One the left wall is a painting of several aristocratic looking people wearing fine decorative clothes, the painting is framed in a gold colored wood frame that seems finely carved. On the left wall is a hanging shield emblazoned with a coat-of-arms, a stylized windmill on a red field. Mohagany framed double-doors lead out the far side of the foyer further into the house.
The house is quiet. It smells of faint burning oil and dust. It's dry, and seems poorly upkept, with cobwebs drapping along ceilings and grime built up in the corners of the wood flooring.

With the door opened, Meepo sends Rat inside to scout ahead of the group. Right now just looking at areas that are not through a closed door, but going in ahead of the group. Are the double doors open or closed? Rat might only be able to move up to those if they are closed.
The doors are closed, but Rat is actually big enough to push it's rotten nose against them and nudge it's way through. (Is Meepo looking through it's eyes, or looking through his own eyes and just letting Rat tell him what he sees?)

Mordekai watches Rat as it moves through the small foyer and nudge open the doors at the far side. He will cautiously follow into the foyer (Perception: 11), coming to a halt before the painting on the left wall. As he waits for the others to come in at their own pace, Mordekai will take a moment to study at the faces in the painting, to commit them to memory as best he can for later inspiration for disguises. (Out of interest, are there any names of the people in the painting?)
Meepo is looking through his own eyes and having the familiar tell him what is going on ahead. He will follow a bit behind the familiar, giving it time to warn them if anything is in the next room.
Olin will follow the others into the house, sticking close to Aga. With a hand on her shoulder he will say a silent prayer and cast guidance on her. Then he will look around, searching for signs of anything unnatural or evil.
There are no names on the painting, but Mordekai takes a close look at the faces. Some of them share features from the children. They don't look like mom and dad's, but maybe uncles and aunts or other relatives. The double doors are set with panes of stained glass in a decorate pattern. A close look around doesn't reveal anything of interest.
Rat heads into the next room, pushing through the doors. This room runs the width of the house, from the left side where you enter, all the way to the right side of the house. To the left a black marble fireplace sits, soot stained and cold. On the right side of the room a sweeping red marble staircase circles up to the 2nd floor. (the house looked to be 3 stories). Mounted on the wall above the fireplace is a longsword with a windmill cameo worked into the hilt. The wood panelled walls are ornately sculpted with images of vines, flowers, nymphs and satyrs. The decorative panelling follows the staircase as it circles upwards. A single door opens just to the right of you, leading to the front room that must be at the front of the house. A door on the far side of the room leads towards the back of the house. There is also a short hallway on the far side to the right, that has two doors leading also to rooms at the back of the house. Finally a cloak room door sits between those two back areas.
Two low burning oil lamps mounted on the walls leave the room in pale light that occasionally dances with the flames movement. This entrance way is otherwise fairly stark, with no other furniture or decorations.
With the report of the all clear, the group moves into the main hall and looks around. You all spend a bit a short time looking around the room. The house remains quiet aside from the creaks and quiet scuffs of the party moving around the house. Aga, you take a closer look at the carved wood panels and notice that there are serpents and skulls inconspicuously woven into the wall designs. Once you point them out to the others they're obvious to see.

"The kids said their baby brother was upstairs in the attic. I don't hear anything, so if there is a baby, it's maybe sleeping. I think we need to go check that out, but we should work our way up carefully."
Meepo looks around for the bracelet he is suppose to find, as well as checking out for other lost things...
Perception: 17
Once that is done he would try to keep with the others, so checking the front room...
"Yes, little bigs said tiny big upstairs." Meepo says. "Make way there?" He goes into the front room with the amazonian woman though, while having Rat check out the chimney.
"Maybe check out rooms as go..." He says over his shoulder as he follows her away from Mordekai.
Mordekai wonders again where the children went, and calls out in a loud-ish whisper, in case they came in and are just up the stairs (but not so loud as to be heard all over the house or through closed doors, etc) "Rosavalda? Thornboldt?"
The undead flying cat thing named Rat scrambles up the chimney sending small plumes of ash cloud puffing from the fireplace. It can be heard scraping around up there. It eventually reaches a iron gate at the 2nd floor, near the back of another fireplace, and is forced back down the chimney to the first floor.
Meepo thinks the only thing lost in the main hall is the sword hanging up there, but it's too high up for him to reach easily so he follows Aga into the front room. This oak-paneled room looks like a hunter's den. Mounted above the fireplace on the far wall is a stag's head, and positioned around the outskirts of the room are three stuffed wolves in different poses, their mouths open, jaws fearsome looking. Two padded chairs draped in animal furs face the hearth, with an oak table between them supporting a wine cask, two carved wooden goblets, a pipe rack, and a candelabrum. A chandelier hangs above the cloth-covered table that is surrounded by four chairs. Two cabinets stand against the walls. Two windows on the wall face the front of the house and out onto the street.
From back in the main hall Aga and Meepo hear Mordekai whisper-shouting for the children. Kane and Olin stand in the main hall, keeping an eye on things, while watching the Aga and Meepo through the door into the den.

"Why big leave sword wall?" Meepo can be heard grumbling to himself as he moves into the front room. "Clearly lost, but Meepo no reach." He sighs in frustration, the bigs from this house are clearly in very big need of his help. Noticing the goblets on the table he nods, since they appear to be right where they should be. He turns to the chairs and table, looking around, in, and under them for anything of note. Once done there he will check the walls and floor.
Investigation: 18
When Rat comes back out of the chimney Meepo will have it move into the short hall and check out those two doors, while he stays looking for lost things in the front room. As Rat wobbles off in that direction he will leave soot cat prints across the floor from the chimney and towards the hall.
“If the child is alone in the attic, we must make haste.”
Kane will proceed to find a candle and light it. The Mage Hand grips the candle in it’s clammy fingers and leads the way up the staircase. If there are no objections, Kane will follow close behind.
"Meepo no understand bigs..." Meepo says as he comes out of the front room, having just barely finished looking around in there before the bigs started going up the stairs. "First say go up... Then go check room, not go up... Now go up..." He is grumbling as he recalls Rat from the hall, patting the bloated flesh of the familiar and sending puffs of soot onto the floor. "Rat go up..." He says, nodding up the stairs and following the others as Rat takes wing and flies a shortcut up the stairs to get in front of the group again.
