"Lost?" Meepo says, glancing to the house. He frowns. "Where have last?" He glances to the road, then squares his shoulders. "What look like?" He asks the girl as he turns back to the house. "Meepo good find lost..." He then makes an insight check on the girl, since he may let the bigs think he is stupid, but he is not.
Meepo looks hard at the girl. He finds it a lot like trying to read the expression on a brick or a rabbit. Her expression gives away nothing, while..also...seemingly holding back nothing.

Mordekai takes a breath, caught off guard by the distraction of Aga's presence. "He's just back there, talking to two children. Their parents apparently keep a monster trapped in the basement, and have gone missing. Meepo was staying to look after them, whilst I came to get you so we could go and investigate. There's something definitely odd about the kids, but they don't seem particularly dangerous."
As he talks, he's leading the others quickly back to Meepo.
"Monster..." Aga seems a bit more confused than worried for a moment, then the worry comes back when she sees Meepo with the children. "Meepo!" She will rush to the kobold and fall to one knee.
In draconic,
"What happened? You're not hurt, are you?" After checking his muzzle, ears, and arms for injuries, she'll look over to the children. "Who are they?"
Aga, Mordekai, Kane, and Olin come out of the fog. Meepo is looking at the house with curiousity. Aga goes and crouches down, speaking to him in draconic for a moment. She looks around and doesn't see any children. Meepo looks around as well...he'd turned away from them to glance at the house for one moment, and then Aga had come and now...they're nowhere to be found.
The night is cold and dark. The fog moves in slow swirls.

Meepo cocks his head and regards the little big for a moment longer, then sighs. "Meepo no know why little big want Meepo go inside." He says to her. "Lost bracelet..." he glances down to her wrist. "Maybe lost. Maybe pretend lost." He informs her with a critical look. "Meepo go find. If no lost, Meepo be back. and no be happy." Glancing back to the street, and hoping to see Mordekai, but knowing it is far too soon with him having to go all the way back to camp, he turns to the house at last. "Rat, come Meepo." He calls up to his familiar.
Mentally to his familiar...
"You stay put and keep an eye on these kids. Let me know what they are doing when I go inside. If the others show up let me know right away."
For some reason the familiar does not listen, staying up out of sight on the roof.
Meepo moves to the door and takes a moment to look for anything out of place.
Having the others come out of the fog as he is checking out he door is a bit of a relief to Meepo. he grins up at the group as they fuss over him.
In dracconic:
"No, but the girl tried to get me to go inside and not wait for you." He informs her. "I do not know what game she is playing at though..."
To the others. "Meepo just check door..." He informs them. "Make sure no hurts there..." He glances back to the door as he speaks, then to the girl, looking for a reaction to his words and the fact the group is now there.
Meepo had a moment to examine the door in closer detail. It was oaken wood, painted, but the paint is old, cracked, and flaking off. The door knob, black iron, is a simple latch. There is a bolt at the top framed in a black iron plate, with a key hole, but he can tell that the bolt is not set. Then he's interrupted by Aga and the others returning, surprisingly quickly.

Mordekai is both confused and slightly relieved to see the strange children not here. He feels a little vindicated to see that Meepo clearly wasn't in so much danger after all. But that girl unnerved him, and he can't decide whether he's relieved to be out of their presence, or further unnerved by their sudden vanishing.
"Where did the children go, Meepo? Did they go in to get the baby brother after all?"
(OOC: Assuming the familiar I had watching the area did not see anything...)
"Meepo no know." Meepo says with a frown. "Little bigs right here..." He nods to the porch where the kids were recently. "Rat! You no watch?" He calls up to his familiar who he had instructed to keep an eye on the kids.

Olin looks at the house quizzically. "Strange that those children would just disappear. I don't feel great about his house, though I can't say what is going on here. Stanimir was definitely worried about something." He looks around, with a silent prayer to Silvanus, trying to find any animals that might live near by.
"Well, as uneasy as those kids made me, I don't feel that we can just leave without investigating. Either the parents are genuinely in trouble with a monster in the basement, or there are some weird kids who just lied to us then vanished. What did you find with the door, Meepo?"
Rat, confused, replies to Meepo, "One moment they were there, my eyes darted to you for a moment, and back to them and they were gone. They did not run away."
Olin glances around for animals. Oh, he spots, hanging from inside an eave on the 3rd floor across the street a bat. It hangs upside down, silent and quiet in the dark.

"Meepo no know where Little Bigs went..." he says again. "Rat no know neither..." Glancing to the door he shrugs. "Door unlocked..." He is a bit agitated as he considers the kids might have gotten lost, but then recalls his earlier decision that bigs cannot be lost, since a big always knows where they are. "Need look lost bracelet..." He says as he moves towards the door. "Little Big says lost..." He glances back to the others as he reaches the door. "Maybe true lost, maybe pretend lost, Meepo not sure." He glances up at the roof. "Rat come Meepo."
Mentally...
"Come on then, you are not staying out here when I am going inside."
A drunkenly flying tressym, its body more decay and rot than not, comes down from the rooftop to land and pad, stiffly, alongside meepo. It smells of death and rot.
"Sorry... Rat no smell good." Meepo tells the others as the zombie tressym lands.
"Meepo, please wait a moment before entering the house. If we are going in I will go with you, but I'd like to speak to someone first. I need a bit of time, please everyone remain vigilant."
Olin sits in front of the house and begins ritually casting speak with animals. After 10 minutes the spell is cast and Olin rises and slowly crosses the street. Looking up to the bat hanging from the eaves.
"Hello, friend bat. I wish you a pleasant evening. If I may ask you some questions, what have you seen at the house across the way, where all the people are standing? Are there monsters living there? What do they look like?"
The night is dark and quiet, the thick fog in the streets damp, the cold seeping through your clothes. Olin quietly crouches, muttering arcane words as he performs his lengthly spell. No one walks the streets. The houses are quiet. You would be forgiven thinking this was a deserted town but for small amounts of tepid smoke curling from the occasional chimney. As you have more time to look around you find the style of buildings here quite unique and not matching anything from Waterdeep. Long and short quoins (masonry blocks that run up the corners of buildings), double triangular windows, narrow, round-arched windows, herringbone stone work, accented with black wrought iron gates and window bars and decorative peak shrouds. Some appear to be maintained, while others like those on either side of the kids house are boarded up and decrepit. A small shop across the street that used to sell clothing is closed up, it's front windows smashed, it's interior full of detritus and trash.
Olin stands up and begins speaking in weird squeaks and hums to a bat hanging from an eave. Olin, the bat responds to you, "Person cave." It seems to agree with you that a house is there. "No predators come from there." It seems no monsters have come or gone from that house, that the bat has seen.

"Done talk bat?" Meepo asks once the exchange has completed. "Go house now?" He asks in his broken common. "Meepo stand wait long." he informs the group. He nods to the house, where he has probably been standing outside of for nearly half an hour now. "Meepo go inside... Come with Meepo?"
Kane jams his pipe between his clenched teeth and summons a Mage Hand, which lends him a light. Taking a deep drag and exhaling smoke, He looks around at the gathered company.
“This is a grim business, make no mistake. I’m no stranger to fear, but this house gives me the chills.”
"Thank you, friend bat. The children that had been standing here before most of us arrived, did you see where they went?"
(to keep things rolling, after the bat responds I'll thank it again and come back to the group and say...)
To Meepo, "Yes, I am done speaking with the bat. For what it is worth, the bat hasn't seen any predators enter or leave. That doesn't mean nothing has gone in or out while the bat wasn't here though."
