"Sorry..." Taman says running a hand through his hair. "My name is Taman Landon. Sorry for my unseemly rambling..." He collects himself as he lets out a sigh. "When I get word directly from Azuth like this it is rather unsettling..." he stands up straighter, looking more self-assured and confident after taking that moment to collect himself. "Yes, I think we should talk to the elder. I will wait here, or somewhere you think more appropriate."
[I'm struggling with what should be privately conveyed and what should be public; for ease of reading, I'll use spoiler boxes when y'all split up]
Taman:
You wait for a number of hours; speaking to the elder of the temple probably isn't allowed for just anyone, so your membership in Azuth's temple is a great boon. You watch others get turned away instantly or forced to make appointments. There's plenty to view while you wait, though you hope you won't miss the dino races. Great marble columns hold up the domed ceiling, braziers burn incense in alcoves.
Eventually you are led up several flights of stairs to an antechamber that is plush with floor pillows; a waiting area for the elder, no doubt. A great wooden door in front of you is suddenly thrust open by a withered hand. This must be Grandfather Zitembe; he's so ancient you're amazed he's able to walk. But his bones have a spritely energy, evident as he ushers three black clad humanoids out of his chambers with a shout.
"...fool not to listen to reason! Or gold!" shouts one of the humanoids, shaking a clinking bag in front of the old man's nose.
"OUT!" he roars, face red and shaking. You hope he doesn't have a heart attack before you can speak with him.
The last humanoid, black clad, to leave is a lizard man, who hisses a final curse at the old man before the three of them brush rudely past you.
You are beckoned into the elder's chambers, a voluminous cavern of a room dotted with bones, blocks of incense, vials of fluid, aromatic wood... you've never seen so many ingredients for divining.
Grandfather Zitembe sighs heavily, slumping into a great cushy pillow larger than his body.
"Many apologies for the wait. Some people are... impatient. What can Savras do for Azuth?"
"Thank you for seeing me so quickly." Taman says with a bow of respect. "I have no problems waiting, it gave me time to meditate and consider, so I am glad of the time." He takes a seat. "For what you can do for me and Azuth, I was sent here by Azuth himself to meet with you... I recieved a sending from my god to come and see you, though I know not why." Taman pauses collecting his thoughts for a moment. "Let me tell you my story, and you can determine why I was sent to you..." Taman then relays everything that has happened, from the death of his friend the old monk, through the confrontation with the undead lady, and then the travel to this land in search of the soulmonger. He leaves nothing out, even showing the elder he map that he has with him.
Fulcra shakes his head at the servant from the Merchant Prince, "Sorry man, I don't think we're interested. Though, we...appreciate?...the offer?"
Fulcra does some quick math, "Ok, well, I don't mean to commit everyone's personal money towards this or anything, but...we need ...probably two canoes, a guide, and some gear. That's 300 gold roughly it would seem. 100 for both canoes.150 for a guide, and probably about 50 for supplies...though I'm just guessing. Since there are five of us, that's 60 gold each if my math is right. And my math is generally wrong. Just to be clear with everyone. But not really wrong. There's wrong, and then there's really wrong. Like, your cousin Alyssa kissing you at the spring dance party wrong. Not that that happened to me. It was an example. And in this example, if I liked it, is that so wrong? Is that a new category? Where was I? Oh ya, money. Unfortunately, I don't have that much. I only have 50. So, maybe someone in the group can loan me 10 for a reasonable interest rate of 10% per month? I feel like that's a reasonable rate. If you try and force me to pay more I will, since I'm pretty bad at negotiating, plus, never do business with friends. What? Anyway. Ok, so, we should talk to a couple of these guides a bit more to get a sense of them. A sorta interview? But let's do that after the dinosaur races, cause no one is going to be able to concentrate until as long as we have THAT hanging over our heads." He stops to breath, seemingly for the first time in the last minute of talking. He stands up, "Let's go watch stupid people get crushed by lizards! Come on Vil, Cimeri, Scoria!" He leads the group out into the city, keeping an eye on Cimeri especially as they go. We ask around where the best seats are for the dinosaur race and try to get a good spot to watch. Fulcra will look for an opportunity to bet. He'll place 4 gold against the fastest looking dinosaur with the most ruthless looking rider.
"Your candor and commitment", says Zitembe, "are incredible. This map...how?" he looks at you, stunned. He slumps into his pillow, staring at the ceiling, mimicking the great tiled roof of the temple. "I'm sorry, I... am finding difficulty with the idea that my homeland might house the cause of this curse. It's wonderful to have a lead, but..." he trails off. "I will do this for you, for it is clear to me with no divination why Azuth sent you here to me. I will undertake contact with the Great Eye. It will take me until noon tomorrow if I start at once. To be completely non-spiritual, the ritual consumes a great many of our resources. Any way you could repay in kind would be appreciated. Now, I must begin." You are ushered out of the chamber. There is time to join the others before the races.
"I'll lend you the 10 gold Fulcra - you can pay me back if we find anything good on the way. Before that, let's get a guide before we get gear. I figure I'm going to be the one who ends up carrying all this stuff, and I'm not doing that if there's races to watch"
"I'm also gonna say lets spend extra on healing and cures for any wild diseases - I don't know enough about this wilderness to spot poisonous plants or creatures easy, but I know wildernesses, and even with a guide doing their best, someone's going to get poisoned by something nasty that won't be cured by the normal stuff, or the shaman will get drunk and fall off a cliff, or whatever. Once we head out, we're not going to be seeing civilisation again for a long time - there's no point hoarding coins"
Taman moves out to find his companions and watch the races with them. He acts distracted, which is very out of character for him, and does not pay much attention to the races.
Cimeri was lost somewhere in the middle of Fulcra's oration but that seemed to be resolved by Scoria. However she finally realized what was bothering her all this time: "Why canoe? We are going into the jungle, it's a land is not it? And canoe is a boat, if I heard right. Then... why boat and not a pack animal?" In her mind she saw again that majestic Ankylosaurus, that could carry all of them and half the Red Bazaar in addition. She shuck the vision off. "If we get a mule, we can load all the stocks on him right there too."
But that was just a thought. For now they were going to see the most amazing thing she could (no, actually, even could not) imagine - the Dinosaurs race! Miraculously found Taman (she wandered if they too have a campy saying here "Port Nyanzaru is a small town") looked troubled - whatever he heard in wherever he was - it was not a good news. Then again, what was a good news lately? Cimeri touched Taman's shoulder: "Is everything all-right?"
Taman gives the tiefling a reassuring smile. "Yes, everything is fine, or will be fine, I hope..." He trails off, then shrugs. "Only time will tell to be truthful. I think I have a lead, and will need to follow up on it tomorrow afternoon." He sighs as he turns back to the races. "I am a bit distracted due to my god having contacted me directly, it is not something you can really get use to I expect..."
The best spot, Benin mentioned, were the overpasses of the city that connected one hill to the next; one could see the entire track from there. You press forward against the stone wall in front of you; directly below are throngs of onlookers divided from each other by wooden barriers to keep them out of the racetrack. The crowd hums with anticipation, it's mere moments from the start of the race. The countdown begins; 3... 2... 1... The crowd roars as Wakanga Otamu's hands shoot blue electric fireworks into the sky, erupting into a red and gold thunderclapping circular labyrinth of Ubtao, the Chultan folk god. The race has begun.
Suddenly an ill wind whips the cowl from Taman's head. He and Cimeri's hair are flattened in the gust; dusty clouds spin up from the overpass cobblestones, and they cover their eyes.
Three dissonant horns blare across the port; panicked cries suddenly rise up from the crowds pressed against you. Mothers clutch babies; merchants drop their trays and hastily pack their goods.
"Stations! Close the gates! Stop the race! Stop the race! Stations! Scourge! SCOURGE!" a guard howls nearby while shoving pedestrians toward their homes, separating out the throngs.
Below, guards rush to their leaders; do they move to position on the walls or run security for the race and keep the onlookers safe?
"THE GATES!" shouts a voice nearby. The nearest gate, Malar's Throat, begins to creak closed. Through the gate, an entire cliffside dwelling village unprotected from...
In the distance of Malar's Throat, bloated white bodies begin thrusting themselves forward down the streets. All decayed, all shambling, all hellbent on destroying the village not within the city walls.
A shriek comes from below as panicked watchers begin breaking into the racetrack to cross and escape to their homes... just as the lead dinosaur racer rounds the bend, sprinting on two legs. The hadrosaur charges forward. The next rider around the bend loses control of his panicked Allosaurus, which smashes into the barrier and roars into the faces of the patrons.
Fulcra stands amidst the chaos, calm within the storm of events. He shrugs and says, mostly to himself, "I mean, is this really a surprise to anyone?" Then he sighs heavily, and considers his next action. How high is this walkway they're on? What is the quickest way down without just jumping? How far down to the dinosaur's and their riders? He silently curses not bringing his rope and several other key items with him. But he does have his wits!! He smiles a vicious smile.

Well, it was a surprise for Cimeri - she expected a common for others but very exciting for her event she could not imagine in her wildest dream. Unfortunately, what she saw now, she did not have to imagine - she already saw it before. Not on that scope but from a closer distance and she did not like that memory. Did not want to believe her eyes now either - it's a foreign land, may be this is not what she thinks it is. Cimeri insistently yanked the sleeve of the closest person that looked liked a local "What are those things?! What is going on?!"
"I think they can handle the dinos..." Taman observes as he looks out at the bloated bodies moving in on the areas outside of the city gates. "Let's see what we can do to help those outside the city..." He moves towards the closing gates, wanting to get out before the gates are shut. "Why do you close the gate and not send out forces to aid them?" Taman calls to a guard as he hurries forward.
(How many bloated things are out there? If more than Taman thinks they can handle, he wouldn't go out...)
Fulcra notices he's about thirty feet above the road below; the racers are roughly 100 feet away, but moving quickly. Would he have time to not only leap down there but then also solve the problem? He grimaces. Maybe? If he's real efficient? He's near a stair that leads from the walkway down to the street level; that would take more time than jumping but quite a bit safer...
People continue to panic and flood the racetrack, either too stricken with the chaos or downright stupid. The Hadrosaur rider has clearly lost control of his mount; it's decided forward is the best chance for survival and is speeding headlong down the track. The allosaurus rider is thrown over the barricades and into the crowd as the giant lizard chomps down on the wooden barrier, smashing it to splinters, before being knocked to the cobblestones by a racing triceratops, its rider flailing unsuccessfully with the reins, a horn breaking off in the allosaurus' side. The cacophony of roars and screams is nearly unbearable.
Away from that high speed situation, Taman and Cimeri corner an annoyed guard and bark at him as he's shoving farmers and city dwellers toward the stair. He stops for a moment, looking at Cimeri.
"Scourge! Undead! They come from the jungle and raid the city for more... soldiers," forced to think about it the guard swallows nervously. People rush past all around you. "This is Port Nyanzaru; if you can't make it inside the gates, that's your problem! There's a temple of Tymora out there in Malar's Throat that will house those that can't make it inside the gates... if they can get to it in time..."
Taman watches the gates being closed at a slow, measured pace while guards help to usher commoners inside as quickly and efficiently as possible. The rising tide of undead is horrifying; this happens on a regular basis??? He cannot see the violence from here is but is assured of it from the screams... is that an undead dinosaur out there? Yes, more than one... going out there now would mean certain, quite certain, death... but perhaps more people can be helped inside?
In the distance looters begin their work; fires begin to pop up at a nearby shop on the street below; the city guard is clearly out of their depth with two crises happening simultaneously...
Guards and soldiers on the city wall begin to amass at the gatehouse, where some of the lead force of undead has started climbing the walls.
"We cannot help those outside." Taman says with regret, placing a hand on the tiefling's shoulder. "Let's see if we can do anything to manage those dinos that are out of control..." He turns back to the race and looks for a way to stop the dinos.
Fulcra sighs heavily. "Great, just great!" he exclaims to nobody in particular. He begins hurling balls of flame into the street in front of the Hadrosaur in an attempt to both drive it away from larger groups of people, as well as slow it down, hopefully the balls of flame making it slow down to swerve about. He continues to hurl balls of flame while running to the nearest point on the bridge that's over top of a building, or something else he can jump down on that's less of a fall than 30 feet. If he finds something, he'll hop onto the edge, drop down hanging from his arms, and then drop the rest of the way. He's hoping to make it to the street where he can help pull people out of the path of dinosaurs.
