Even though Alkanos' attack missed his target, another patron flanking the aggressor at the same time managed to eliminate him only a few seconds later. The paladin gave him a nod and congratulated him with a short "Good Work!" before he turned towards the remaining hostiles inside the inn. He sprinted towards the next attacker while also marking him for divine judgement. Again Alkanos brought his warhammer down on his target in one wide arc, hoping that this time he would strike true.

The eladrin would be surprised to find his leg wound closing up, leaving nothing but a thin scratch and a faint trickle of blood.
With a flourish, the man behind the bar sidesteps and unleashes a flash of magic above one of the attacker's heads. He glances up and just barely steps out of the way in time as white flame crashes to the ground, singing the ends of some of his hair. His victory would be short lived however. The wolfish shadow seen earlier scurries across the floor from the corpse of his fallen comrade, disappearing into his shadow as it had done before. Before he could react, a steel hammerhead rammed into his chest. A faint gasp escaped his lips as the weapon impacted, barely heard above the unmistakable CRACK of bones shattering. He doubles over for a moment, thrown into a pained coughing fit. When he lifts his head back up, you can see blood running down his chin from his mouth, and he seems barely able to stand at this point.

Artorias scans around the room as he slides the sword from the flesh of the man who once stood before him. It would seem that the other patrons in the establishment had a common goal in mind: survival. These unwanted guests found themselves walking into the wrong house, and they will be eradicated. The paladin next to him exclaimed loudly before heading off toward their next attacker. This time his hammer found purchase and the resounding crack was both deafening and sickening. Seeing this, Artorias made his move. Any enemy still breathing can still pose a danger and the first order of business here is to eliminate the threat.
Placing a boot on the back of the dead man at his feet, Artorias leapt over the corpse and rushed toward the aggressor who just had his chest smashed. The man bled from his mouth, indicative of internal hemorrhaging. Without immediate medical attention he would soon meet whatever god he worshiped. Artorias was fine with introducing them a little earlier. As he rushed the man he began to go into a slide about five feet away, keeping his profile low and his weapons at the ready. Taking stock of the man's armor, he wanted to end this quickly. Not to show mercy but to get him out of the fight and focus on what appeared to be the final member of their little squad. Joints were typically the weakest in any armor and that is where he targeted.
As unsteady on his feet as the man was, his survival instincts were still active. As he came under another ferocious attack with double blades he managed to maneuver - not to avoid the attacks completely - but enough so that the blades slid harmlessly over the chain mail armor he wore.

It was surprising to feel steel slicing through his flesh so soon into a fight. Perhaps he was starting to get a little rusty. He let out a sigh and took in a deep breath, refocusing. Grasping the hilt with his other hand now, the sword in his hand snaked upward in a slashing uppercut towards the man.

The ball of fire slams square into the man's face, lighting his head aflame. He tries to scream, but it is quickly cut short as his lungs fill with smoke and hot air. He falls to the ground, writhing in pain before falling still. There is silence in the inn again, contrasted with the chaos of whatever is befalling the town outside.
Through the windows you can see other figures moving about quickly outside, although you can't tell if they're townsfolk without a closer look. The screams seem to be coming from south of the inn now, and the warm glow of firelight now pours in from all directions. Your immediate enemies are vanquished, but you get this feeling that you aren't out of danger yet.

Notes to players
I'll keep posting the map just so you have a reminder of what the place looks like. There is a staircase in the southwest corner leading to the second floor where your rooms are. Windows line the west wall, with double doors directly in the middle. Behind the bar is a door to the north which you last saw the innkeeper run into.

Bertren looks around to the others and say "Well that got violent rather fast." then he makes his way over to one of the bodies looking searching it for anything indicating who they are or why they're here."Let's see what exactly were dealing with here." and upon hearing the scream from outside he release a quick prayer to Xerena.

Seeing the last foe dispatched, Artorias takes stock of the immediate surroundings. The din of combat outside is muffled but tells him that there is still men to die this evening. A scowl crawls across his face as he sheaths both weapons and immediately begins to rummage through the pockets of the dead along with Bertren. He takes all available coin purses but also attempts to inspect to see if he can find anything of informational value. Insignias, brands, emblems, letters and the sort. Anything to give him an idea of who these men are and what their purpose was.
Rifling through the corpses, you find they carry nothing in the way of parchment or writ. Each body held a pouch on the belt carrying 16 gold pieces, in addition to the armaments you saw(shield and longsword), each carried with them a dagger with a curved blade. Upon rolling the corpses over, you see emblazoned on their cloaks in gold thread, the emblem of a bear's paw grasping a full moon.
Player Notes
For those of you picking through the corpses, if you're trying to pocket the coin without others noticing, it'll take a sleight of hand check.
You can make a History check to see if you recognize the emblem.
Nico
Upon seeing the two other patrons turn over the corpses, you recognize the emblems on their backs instantly. These are the uniforms of the Greschian military, an organization you are quite familiar with.
"Oh well that's just fan-*******-tastic now isn't it!" He exclaimed upon seeing the uniforms. The disgruntled former-soldier walks over to the bodies, crouching down and holding out his hand. "Can I see one of those fancy daggers they had boys?" If they hand him one, he'll use it to cut the fabric around one of the emblems and pocket it. If not, he'll use his shortsword to do the same thing, just a bit clumsier. "These here my friends, are Greschmen. And them bein' here, probably means they've gone and disposed of that boy-king in Rhidium to the north. So now they've got their eyes on us. That, or he's still alive and they're just feelin' their oats a bit much."
He stands up, grimacing from the pain of his fresh wounds. "In any case, I imagine we're in for a long night once we step out those doors."

Upon turning the body over and discovering the emblazoned emblem on their cloak, he cocks his head to the side. When the white-haired man approaches, exclaiming who they are and asking for a dagger, he produces one from the waist-band of the freshly killed soldier and handing it hilt-first into the palm of the man. He takes the coin purse from the body he was examining as well as the other one he had first killed. He places the coins into his own purse and places the now empty bags in his own. Artorias takes a moment to peer at the individuals gathered before him when his eyes land on the only Elf within the room. His eyes narrow suddenly, but says nothing, instead looking over to Nico. He nods in agreement, keeping the cowl of his cloak pulled over his head. He eyes the emblem on the cloak of the deceased once more before moving over to one of the windows. Keeping his body covered by the tavern walls, he leans his head ever so slightly to peer out into the street.
There was more fighting happening just south of their location... a small smile crept across his lips.

The name - Greschman, is definitely familiar to you. You're aware of the country Greschia and know of a conflict between them and Rhidium. You're pretty sure the country is to the west of Rhidium, but that's all you can really recall about it.
Looking outside, your gaze is immediately drawn to the infernos across the street. Both of the buildings, which are a little over sixty feet away from your current position, are almost entirely engulfed in flames. You can see four figures standing outside the southernmost building in your field of view, but you can't make out any details due to the bright light of the fire behind them. As you're peering out the window, a group of four more soldiers trots down the road to the south, with a robed figure following behind them. Eventually they disappear from your view.
Rhys
In addition to everything Artorias sees, you are able to make out some of the finer details of the men standing to the west. One of them is much larger, almost a foot taller than the others, and the firelight reflects off his full set of plate mail. A great longsword is strapped to his back, bigger than any weapon you've seen here so far. He's flanked by two more soldiers similar to the ones you killed, as well as what appears to be a bowman. To the north of the inn, you're able to spot two more archers, facing away from the inn.
Map for Clarity
The positions of your characters aren't too important at the moment, kind of just threw them in there. This is mostly just to illustrate some of what was seen in the perception checks.
With the assailants dead, and a semblance of order restored, August takes a moment to listen to the other patron discuss before going over to the room where the inn keeper took refuge before the encounter. He knocks on the door and says gently "Ser, the danger has been taken care of. You may come out now". He then awaits for a response from the terrified inn keeper.
There is a soft whimper from inside after August knocks on the door, and then silence as the occupant deliberates the reassuring words. Slowly, the door creaks open. Harrin, the middle-aged innkeeper you had all dealt with upon getting here, pokes his head out. Seeing only the six of you standing in the room, he opens the door to the storeroom fully and steps out. He gags upon the sight of the corpses, quickly turning his head away. "G-g-gods above, who are you people!? What's going on?"
As the last opponent was finally vanquished, Alkanos took a second to catch his breath. He wasn't quite sure what happened here but was almost certain that there was still fighting ahead of them, as the Half-Elf suggested. The Paladin adressed the motley group of travelers who found themselves in this precarious situation. "My name is Alkanos Demetrion, Knight of the Order of the Endless Hunt. If our friend here is right and this is some kind of incursion or even an invasion, we have to organise some kind of resistance. Either to repell the attackers or to give the innocents of this town enough time to retreat safely." He paused a moment to let his words sink in, "A staunch response to this aggression is our best chance to get through this alive." Alkanos knew that this was a tough sell. He didn't know these people, didn't know of their agendas or if they were inclined to help him at all, but the paladin felt it was necessary to defend those people of the city unable to stand against this onslaught.
