When she's eating dinner, Mayaries sits next to Wu. "Hey." he says under his breath. He sits down, takes a slow bite of hardtack, (or whatever the ship has for food)(hardtack is condensed and stale bread that sailors ate before food was easy to preserve. It doesn't taste good.) and coughs a bit after taking a bite that was a little too big. He takes out a green, 6-inch metal container, and takes a swig from its bottom.
"Aahhhh." he smacks his lips.
"You want a swig? It's probably the best-tasting stuff here." He says with a taut grin as he offers her the bottle.
(Only check this spoiler if you drink it, or are the DM.)
Edit: You can all check now.
A smooth liquid pours past your lips. At first taste, you realize that it is not alcohol. At second, you realize that it is actually salty salty hot sauce. Act accordingly.
“I don’t see why not. We have time before our mission so there’s no harm in a bit of indulgence.” Wu says as she takes the Bottle, “I’m glad to share a drink with a friend, from another walk of life.”
Wu puts down her piece of Hardtack on her plate and lifts the bottle to her face. At the point the tip of the bottle reaches to her lower lip she smells the spices inside. She was familiar with this particular spice, a good one for potatoes and other highly starchy foods.
Wu glances back at Mayaries and is met with the same smile he was wearing beforehand. Wu nods to Mayaries and says “bottoms up.”
Wu took two gulps from the bottle and tried hold back any sign of looking affected by the hot sauce. This did not go as she planned. Wu’s chin pushed into itself in a face of discomfort. Finishing the gulp that only lasted a second but felt like a lifetime, Wu gave a deep exhale with her cheeks now visibly red. After another hardy HUFF Wu took off her sunglasses to wipe away a set of tears and revealed her lilac colored eyes. Wu then took a glass of water and chugged it down and cleared her throat. Putting her sunglasses back on and wiping some of the sweat that was rolling down her forehead. Wu takes a third deep exhale and turns to Mayaries. “Strong stuff you’ve got there, boy.” Wu took a fourth exhale “next time we have a meal, I’ll treat you to some tea. I have some leaves I think you’ll appreciate.”

The early hours of the day provide smooth sailing as you were told. But sure enough as the ship leaves the coastal waters waves begin to rock the ship and the floor becomes much more uneven. For the next several days, you pass the time watching waves, playing cards, and resting your minds and bodies for the coming job. You meet some of the crew, about 16 in all, and watch as they tirelessly work the ship on constant rotation sailing through the first night by the light of a full moon.
The next two nights they make anchor and set a watch. Upon inquiry of a passing crewmember you learn that the Kesh Bars are common Sahaugin hunting grounds but sometimes they raid anchored ships. “Between that and the Weirdings, we set a watch” he casually explained.
The third day held a steady rain and the waves rose higher but nothing interesting happened beyond that. On the fourth day a fog covers the morning and continues the boring, gloomy atmosphere of the day before. You begin to set up for another bout of cards when suddenly the boat shudders with a loud sound bursting below deck.
*SLAM*
You instantly look about but before a word escapes your lips another sound: *CRACK*A few feet up the wall of your chamber, a long, 1.5’ diameter, murky tendril of seawater, with a gaping mouth bursts through the wood, as though a fist through a paper kite. You hear a shout from above:
“WEIRDS!”
Dripping into your mostly dry quarters, it hisses at Ashild and lunges like a tree snake, hanging from the wall. It strikes out and crashes into her shoulder wrapping around her neck and shoulder and pulls her up into the air kicking.
INITIATIVE ROLLED!
Mechanics:
Surprise Round: Attack: 6 Damage: 10
Ashild you are grappled, restrained, and pulled 5 ft towards the creature.
Ashild, caught off guard, starts flailing. But collecting herself she closes her eyes, takes a deep breath, and in a burst uses all her strength to (attempt to) pull herself free.
Mayaries, who was watching the card game, whips out his greatsword, and runs up to the weird. He grunts in anger as he rages, and swings at the slimy tube twice. He keeps his feet in a confident stance, swinging down, then back up through the creature. An aggressive tune worms its way into Mayaries' head. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n5ZEg3P0z5o\
Moving up to the beast with the swiftness of wind, Wu then firmly plants her feet onto the deck of the ship. Wu brings her left arm down with an open palm to strike a softer looking part of the monster
Roll: Natural 1
Wu’s left arm does not meet its intended mark. She was now left in a more vulnerable position. In an attempt to correct this mistake, Wu tries to land a hit with her right arm. This time making a forward forceful hit.
Roll: 15 Damage: 9
Within milliseconds later, with Ki flowing through her body and both of her Arms, Wu unleashed a flurry of blows unto the Weird before her in attempt to stun the beast by tapping into her opponent’s Ki.
Roll: 21 Damage: 6
Roll: 9 Damage: 8
the target of Wu’s blow must succeed a DC 13 Constitution saving throw or be stunned, until the end of Wu’s next turn.
Ashild swings her leg into one of the hammocks and wrapping around it pulls herself free tumbling back onto the floor. Mayaries snaps to his feet, Grabbing his sword he cleaves into the being the blade sliding right through the body of the creature. Once. Twice. The creature seemed to react, but in appearance it didn't appear to do very much. Wu steps up and strikes the creature in an array of limbs and blows one of her fists makes contact with the weird and knocks it to the side instead of her hand moving through, and she follows up with a snap kick into its chin with a burst of motion. The creature suddenly moves slower, its body less solid, it loses water onto the floor(stunned). Yseth grabs his axe and swings carefully stepping into a gap where the others are not, he strikes two heavy cuts to a similar effect as Mayaries' blade.
Mechanics:
Con Save for Stun: 5
Extra rolls to check for nat 20's on Yseth's attacks which would have had advantage:
Mayaries, eyes ablaze(metaphorically), sees that the thing is not yet dead, and throws caution aside. He recklessly lifts his greatsword high above his head, lifts his right foot for more clearance, and strikes down. "Gyah!"
Attack: 22 Damage: 12
He does the same fluid motion again, giving no mercy. "Guyyah!"

Ashild lifts herself back up off the ground and quickly surveying the room grabs the two shortswords strapped to her waist. With her training in two-weapon fighting she quickly makes 3 stabs at the creature in quick succession, right, left, right.
(Since creature is below maximum HP I'm using colossus slayer which lets me add an extra 1d8 damage)
Seeing that her blow stunned the beast, Wu continues to strike at the monster. Making four consecutive blows, Wu makes a right jab, a left hook, a knee thrust and finally an uppercut. With the knee thrust, Wu attempts to hit the Weird in the same place she did when she stunned it.
Mayaries yells. The sound trapped in the small quarters makes it louder than it should have been. Two heaving blows from his long unsheathed blade has the rest of you ducking back or shying away as Mayaries appears to not be mindful of the 3 other bodies in the room. After dodging out of the way of Mayaries, Ashild draws her blades and strikes into the creature several times, though some of her cuts more effective than others. She slides back to make room for the stern faced beld taking vertical strikes at the foe. Down. Up. The weird warbles a strange cry as the tether between it and the sea snaps and the now still water falls to the floor erupting in a splash. You can hear the ship creaking and groaning as you feel yourselves rising on a swell. Above deck you hear commotion, shouts, and the belting voice of Captain Swells.

“ROGUE OFF PORT!!! ”
A Castlelike wave 60+ feet high towers moments away from the ship you hear the captain’s voice.
“ANELI NOW!!”
The ship’s wavemaster and apprentice release the masts they clung to and, putting their focus towards the wave, run toward it.
Wu you are crouched just out the hatch on the opposing side of the ship, and another <decide among yourselves> on the ladder unaware of the situation. The rest of you hear wind, shouts, and see Wu's face paling against the backdrop of a darkened sky.

Yseth shouts out to Wu, "What's happening out there? Have we hit a storm?" Yseth begins using a scrap of cloth to tie his axe to his right hand, bracing for a potential wave break. He casts Longstrider on himself.
If a Dexterity roll is needed for the knot: 21 (add another +3 to the result if done with Sleight of Hand)
Ashild yells at Wu (in common): "Either get up there or move out of my way! We have to help them!" She heads toward the ladder waiting for Wu. She then looks over at Mayaries and says in Primordial (specifically Ignan if that matters). "It may just be a superstition, but our fire abilities might help scare them off."
