“The Pie Pals, you say?” He responds with a raised eyebrow. He then looks at the boy with a very concerned look. “Nicolas, do they speak the truth? How did this happen?”
Nicolas offers a full explanation to Master Dundragon, from the part where he accidently the cage open while he was cleaning, to finding you all defending the frightened townsfolk in front of the Golden Eagle, to when he helped clean and repair peoples’ ripped, blood soaked clothing while you proceeded to heal them.
As he speaks, you look around and realize that Silver is not with you. You figure that he stayed behind to offer further assistance to any of those people who were injured in the attack. When Nicolas is finished talking, a troubled look crosses Master Dundragon’s face, and after a brief pause, he replies.
”A terrible accident indeed! This is truly awful!! This has never happed before, and it breaks my heart to know that I have indirectly caused harm to innocent people. Please know that I never intended anyone to get hurt, and I can assure you that I treated my rats well. I never hurt or abused them. Of course, they are simple minded animals, and perhaps without the intellect to realize that I was probably keeping them safer than if they had to fend for themselves out in the world, where they would perhaps be eaten by any number of dangerous creatures. I was not a threat to them, but it appears that they saw me as one, nonetheless.”
”At any rate, what’s done is done, and it appears that I am indeed indebted to you all for saving those poor people.”
Although he’s obviously a many of mystery and magic, it would seem to you that he’s telling the truth. At the very least, he seems to care about the boy. Beyond that, you don’t pick up any clues that he’s trying to hide anything.
Lumen
The man seems to be surprisingly honest and straightforward. At least, that’s what you glean from reading his body language and voice inflections. To you, it would seem that he’s telling the truth, but at the same time, he is a man of magic and mystery, so it’s very likely that he has a host of secrets. Of course, you have no idea what they are, but you’re fairly certain that he’s not trying to swindle you or mislead you in any way right now.
Chrys sighs. "Seems it was an accident, and I know ya don't think what ya did in this here shop was wrong, but people got hurt, sir. Ya left dangerous creatures in the charge of yer boy Nicolas here without any supervision, and that ain't right. I'd just like ya t'consider that in the future, should ya think of runnin' any more of these experiments of yours. Maybe set yerself up a nice lil' workshop outside o' the city, so if things go pear-shaped, ya won't make the life o' the guards here any harder than it is."
She clears her throat uncomfortably; this diplomacy stuff was never her forte; she much prefered to charge on straight through with her hammer and solve problems with violence. That would be a sub-optimal here course of action here, though, so hopefully one of the others will be better at talking to this wizard than she is.
Master Dundragon listens to Chrys’s scolding, and then responds with a confident but calm counter. “You are not very light on the tongue, are you, madam dwarf? Nonetheless, you speak plainly; I have heard your point and I can see that your words are not completely without merit.”
”Of course, the issue is now moot, since I have no more rats. In fact, you were the last ones to see them, so I say once again, thank you ror your efforts in preventing any further injury, or worse, any loss of life. I shudder to think what might have happened if you had not been there. I have taught Nicolas a few basic spells, but I doubt that he alone could have stopped them from their little, but obviously bloody rampage.”
“As I said, I am in now your debt. Perhaps there is a way I can repay you for your worthwhile actions?”
"Do you have a house I can have?" Krackle would ask wide eyed looking up from next to Chrys. "A big one though, big enough for people bigger than me" He would add.
Chrys waves her hand. "Honestly, I was never any good at barterin', and I got no idea what we might need, so I think I'll let Lumen or Vesper do all the talkin' here. You guys just do what ya think is right, an I'll speak up if I disagree."
Vesper shrugs her shoulders. "A house might be a bit much, but maybe some gold? Or if you've got any friends that need a job done, tell them about us!"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Yes, Master Dundragon, you appear to possess many useful arcane items, so surely you have things you might reward us... to use in any future entanglements of this nature. We've shown our worth. Show yours. I am but a humble orc fighting bard, then we have a champion kobold druid who can tell you more about what your rats did and said, another champion half-elf sorcerer, and an eminently worthy dwarven paladin. Which items would help us hone our craft might we find in this room?"
Persuasion: 11i
"I'm a curious chap. I would love to hear more about your work. Perhaps if you interest us enough, we could help you with something. If not, we can be on our way and direct all future inquiries about the rat incident to this address."
“A house? I’m afraid I only have one house, and do not have one to spare, little one,” Master Dundragon responds to Krackle. “Although I’m wondering if you actually know how much a house costs.”
To Vesper, he answers, “Some gold or the promise of work. That seems like a much more reasonable bargain that a house. I would be willing to put a monetary price on my appreciation. As for jobs, there may be work I could offer you, which would benefit both of us. You all do seem like a capable bunch, so let me think about that.”
And, responding to Lumen, he says, “You are definitely the most capable negotiator of what appears to be a very capable group, Master Lumen. That I can see. And yes, as I just mentioned, there are ways that you could perhaps help me with my work. As for magic times, that is my business, as you know, so perhaps in reward of the services you have already rendered, perhaps I could offer you a potion or two. Are you willing to accept those terms? If so, then we can discuss further, but not this evening. Would you be able to come visit me again tomorrow? That would give me a chance to purvey my inventory and see what potions I have available, and also think about what tasks I could offer you.”
"Mmm... Don't know how everybody else feels, but we'll be busy in the mornin' tomorrow,"Chrys muses to the others. "We got services t'attend, an' afterwards we got ourselves a meetin' with a fella. Maybe as part of Dundragon's 'preciating, he could treat us all to a lil' lunch too, and we can discuss his business o'er that? Whaddaya think?"
Lumen nods at Chrys' proposed course of action, and also at Dundragon. He's still a little wobbly on his feet from nearly dying by surprise rat in the street, and would be happy to move to the Inn right away for some rest.
"Nope, not sure. Never had a house.. " Krackle would reply with a smile. Then looking to Chyrs. "So we go to bed... then go to service and talk to the guy afterwards... then come back here and talk to him?" The tiny kobold would say pointing to the wizard. "Sounds good... I am pretty tired, my belly has never been this full... Can we go back to the inn?"
Master Dundragon agrees to your proposal to meet him back here at his shop at noon tomorrow. He and Nicolas thank you again and bid you good night.
You all leave the shop and make your way back to the Golden Eagle. Being tired, still full of wine, you find it a bit challenging to remember the way as you weave through the dark streets of Yartar. You make a couple of wrong turns and end up in narrow, empty alleys, but eventually find your way back by following the crowds.
The streets near the square and the popular taverns are still hopping with festive crowds, and drunk, happy people. Not all are townsfolk, as Shieldmeet festive attracts people from all around the nearby region. At times, you have to push and squirm through throngs of people, but nothing that holds you up. Vesper gets a few whistles and cat calls from drunk young men, a few of which “accidentally” bump into her, no doubt drawn by her good looks and plenty of ale.
Fir the most part, Krackle is ignored, and you figure that his small size and cloaked visage are enough to hide his kobold features.
When you finally arrive at the Golden Eagle, you enter and are greeted my the proprietor, who politely informs you that you still need to settle up for your dinner bill: 2gp each for food and 20gp total for the two bottles of fine elvish goodberry wine. He also gives you the keys to your three rooms.
As you’re getting your keys, Vesper spots a familiar face inside the tavern area, a silver skinned elvish woman with long black hair that has a blue sheen and a lock of silver. She’s wearing studded leather armor and two scimitars on her waist. Her appearance is unmistakable, it’s definitely Kessdarra.
The silver haired elf looks up, and in surprise, recognizes her friend as well. It’s been at least two months when she last saw Vesper at The Lonesone Crow Roadhouse in Triboar, where she worked as a bouncer.
"Twenty gold for wine!! Krackle didn't order that!" he would say as panic spreads across his face. "That is like..a lot of gold..." The kobold would hold out his fingers... obviously trying to use then to count. "I drank one cup! It was small even!" The kobold would add as he clutches tightly to his coin bag.
Vesper gives dirty looks later and tries as best she can to memorize their faces so that Chrys can kick their asses later. When they get back to the bar, Vesper opens up her money bag and pulls out 20 gold. She's about to take her key and go to bed when she sees Kessdarra in the distance. She runs over to the Elven fighter and gives her a hug. "Oh hey! I wasn't expecting to see you again! What brings you to town? Did you see my performances earlier? I won a lot of gold! Did you see the rat attacks? They bit a bunch of people, but my friends and I were able to stop them! Oh, you should meet my new friends, they're right over there!" Kessdarra will have no issue smelling Vesper's breath and finding out that she has had a few drink tonight.

"'Twas a good meal, thank ye," Chrys says as she pays 2 dragons for her meal. "Though I won't be eatin' here again, whew," she mutters under her breath when the proprietor turns away. "Kid, just pay for your meal, Vesper said she was treatin' and it looks like she took care o' it already," she says to Krackle gently. "'Sides, it's an experience worth havin' at least once in a life, though I don't fancy doin' this every single night. Now let's turn in-"
As she turns to find her way to the stairs, Chrys sees Vesper running off and lets out a long sigh. "Ya know, I gotta get that girl to stop drinkin', or she's gonna regret it tomorrow." She stomps off after Vesper, pulling up short as she makes to grab Vesper's shoulder when she hears the introduction.
"Oh, ah,"Chrys fumbles, caught off guard as she eyes the new elf. "I'm Chrysoberyl Vos'Rorn, paladin of the Duin. I see you're friends with Vesper; she's had a might bit too much tonight, as ya can see. If you two know each other, please, catch up! Yer both grown women here and Vesper don't need me glarin' over her shoulder." She leans in towards Kessdarra, however, and mumbles quietly to the other elf, "But in the spirit o' friendship, I'd like to ask ya to do our sweetie a big favor and cut her off that ale if she wants more, 'fore she hurts herself."
Krackle would slowly pull out two shiny gold coins. He would bit them both in front of the innkeeper before jumping up and placing them on the counter. After securing his coin pouch, he would look up to Chrys and quickly bounce after her as she makes her way to towards Vesper and her friend. "Hi! I'm Krackle! I'm a kobold and a good helper." He would say holding up a small scrawny looking claw towards the elvish woman. "I am going to sleep in a bed!" He would add excitedly as Chrys goes to leave the two friends to catch up. As the dwarf heads towards her bedroom, Krackle would speed up so that he was walking next to her and grab hold of her armor. "Hey.. uhh.. I don't know where Silver went... Do you.. Do you think I could sleep in your room with you?" He would ask while clutching the friendship bracelet he had just purchased earlier that day in his tiny hands. "I promise I will be quiet. I won't take your things or anything.. please?" The tiny brass scaled kobold would plead looking up to Chrys.
Chrys smiles at Krackle. "'Course you can. But you gotta promise to try sleepin' in a bed proper, don'tcha go curlin' up on a floor or nothin'. We're payin' for this, so enjoy it!"
Turning more serious, she adds "Y'know Silver wouldn't leave ya hangin' if there wasn't a good reason. He's got things he gotta deal with, likely with his old crew, that he can only do by himself. But I'm sure he's thinkin' of ya, and whereever he needed ta go, I bet he thought it'd be too dangerous for the rest o' us to follow. But don'tcha worry, he brought ya to us for a reason, an' we'll take care o' you just like family from now on. So don't worry, you ain't got nothin' to be scared of from us."
