Krackle would take the oil and the caltraps before scampering off towards the entrance. Ducking behind rocks and bushes, he would poke his head around the entrance of the cave and look inside the dark hole. The tiny kobold would look around as his eyes adjust to the darkness, and if he doesn't see any goblins, he would quietly shuffle into the cave.

As the voice echos in his mind, he would quickly back up a bit towards the light and begin dumping the oil and caltrips at the entrance of the cave. If he is not immediately discovered, he would quickly begin casting mold earth making the ground around the entrance lumpy and muddy, hoping to make it more difficult for the goblins if they come out. He would then shout. "Hey! Hey you guys! Are there any goblins in there?! or bugbears?" He would yell before backing up and hiding behind a nearby tree.
Chrys grins. "Now this is more my speed," she tells the others, crouching down behind her shield with a wide grin, javelin ready to throw at the first goblin she sees.
Ellywick has lead you to a position about 100 feet away from the opening. You hunker down below another small rise, and watch as Krackle makes his way towards the cave entrance, trying his best to move quickly and quietly, just in case there is anyone watching. His motion is not nearly as stealthy as you would have hoped for. Perhaps he's a bit anxious or frightened. Either way, it seems as if anyone were watching, there's a good chance that Krackle would be spotted, especially when he gets close to the entrance.
Fortunately, it seems that no one is watching... at least not that you can tell, because you see no other signs of movement in the area, nor do you hear any voices or calls of alarm.
He disappears into the cavern, and then reappears a few moments later after receiving Vespers's arcane message. He spreads the caltrops and the oil just inside the cave entrance, and then shouts his announcement before moving back a few feet and hiding off to the side of the opening.
Then you wait...
Thirty seconds pass, and nothing happens.
Krackle
As Krackle enters the cave opening, he finds himself inside a large natural cavern about twenty feet both wide and deep. He can see a set of stairs just inside the entrance, hewn from the rock that descend down into the ground.
There is nothing inside the entrance, and although his darkvision allows him to see down the stairs, Krackle can't discern any detail about where they might lead. Nor does he see or hear any other creatures in this immediate area.
Lumen calls the others over and when the group's reconvened...
"Well if they aren't just inside, they're either out hunting and due to return... or they're deeper inside and still due to come out. It stands to reason this sort of cave wouldn't only have one entrance and exit, right? Why don't we take a few minutes, no more than an hour, to look around for evidence of another entrance. If we find nothing, we can still wait for them to emerge or return... or just carefully step through the caltrops and go find them in their own lair. If we do find another entrance, we could either try to smoke them out and force them to run over caltrops and more fire, or enter through the back and surprise them, with the caltrops as backup."
If he receives any odd looks from his rundown of tactical options, he'll grin sheepishly, hiding his lute behind his back. "What? I was one of the better tacticians in my tribe by default, and I'm also a storyteller, and if different battle tactics aren't essentially different stories waiting to be told in the field, I'll eat my cap."
After waiting for a bit, Krackle would begin to get nervous..maybe he did it wrong... maybe he wasn't a very good helper.. He would wonder before poping out from behind the tree. He would then tiptoe around the metal spikes on the ground an move into the mouth of the cave. He would then try yelling louder. "HELLO!! I'M A KOBOLD! Anyone in here?"
(OOC: you can ignore this post.. lots of posts happened while I was typing)
Krackle would look to Vesper and shake his head. "I saw some stairs leading down into the dark but no goblins." The kobold would say with a frown. Then looking to lumen he would nod and begin quickly looking around. "I'll help look around!" He would reply before taking off and moving through the undergrowth hoping to find an entrence!
"I don't want to be caught inside in a trap we set ourselves," Chrys admits, rubbing her head in frustration. "I do think we could still use this setup to smoke 'em out if they're in there, but scouting for their backup entrance, if they got one, seems like the soundest plan for right now. Someone should keep eyes on the front o' this cave, though, just in case."
Chrys will do a bit of scouting around the cave area to see if she can spot another entrance.
With the front entrance secure, at least for now, Ellywick decides to help you scout the terrain around the hillside. She's familiar with this area, having been out her a few times, although she's never set foot inside the cave.
While Vesper and Kess remain just outside the entrance, Lumen, Krackle, Chrys and their trusty gnome guide hike around and search for other possible entrances. They spend about a half hour exploring the rocky hillside above and around the main opening, and also searching the woods to the left and right. However, they do not find other cave openings or natural fissures in the nearby ground.
Lumen returns with the scouting group and says, “no sign of other entrances. So this may be the only option. We can wait until they return, or maybe we can go in carefully around the caltrop and look around a bit. If they return we will hear it, and we might be close enough to light the oil. It will be more interesting than waiting outside at least.”
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"I'll go first, watch out for the oil and pointy bits!" Krackle would reply looking to Lumen and Vesper. The kobold would then scurry around the the traps and enter the cave once more. Once inside he would take a deep breath through his small pointy snout. "I like caves" He would say very matter of fact before slowly moving down the stairs.. trying to be as quiet as possible while keeping his eyes open for traps or goblins.
Lumen will try to grab the kobold before he darts ahead into the cavern. Do we need a custom saving throw? Roll to save against impulsive-but-well-meaning-kobold-related disaster?

Vesper looks at Chrys as Krackle goes ahead. "Well, I don't think that you need to worry about being clanky anymore."
OOC: No need to stop Krackle from darting ahead, he already shouted in the cave 30 minutes ago. Might as well head in since surprise is gone.
