Watching the troll in the stable finally go down, Vesper quickly runs back outside and shoots her flaming bolt at the other troll, who is currently standing over a fallen and bloody Lumen. Chrys and Krackle follow right behind, both of them kneeling down to bestow prayers of healing on their bardic companion. In a flash, Chrys stands back up and shoves her body and shield right up against the vicious creature, trying to hold it at bay and dodge it's deadly blows as it thrashes about on the other side of her shield.
It lashes out at her with a brutal swipe to the side of her head, and for the first time, the dwarf suddenly understands firsthand the danger that trolls possess. Attack: 25 Damage: 15. It then pivots once again to focus its efforts on the persistent fire-wielding human on its other flank. Grabbing the man by the head, it tries to bite and claw through his armor right at the neck joint. Attack: 24 Damage: 12, Attack: 16 Damage: 9. The man reels in pain, but manages to twist free just in time to avoid feeling the troll's teeth in his flesh.
It is now Kess's turn. Presently, she is still inside the stable with the two guards as they look down at the dead troll and make sure it is truly dead. With so much of its skin blackened by fire damage, it does not appear to be moving at all. Lumen, you can do an action as well, unless you want to remain on the ground behind Chrys.

"Burn the body, quickly!"
Kess rushes as she skids around and out of the stable to deal with the remaining troll. She greets the brute - with a Fire Bolt aimed right in the dead center of the loincloth, HOPING that kind of burning pain will get him to drop the man.
Lumen lets out another eerie, hushed cry and that light green energy flows from his mouth to the troll's ears, casting dissonant whispers again for 12 psychic damage (WIS 14 for half damage and ability to stay put).

Troll WIS Save: 1
Still lying on the ground right behind the dwarf, Lumen sees Chrys stagger a bit as she takes a vicious bash to the head. He can still feel the intensity of the battle from up close, watching the two combatants fight for their lives as they try and take down the relentless beast. You can all hear the commotion and screams of the villagers as they watch this horrible scene unfold.
Letting out his eerie magical war cry once again, he watches the troll's face distort in visible agony for a few brief moments, although this time, it seems to shrug off the effects of the spell as it remains firmly rooted in its spot right in the middle of the melee.
Just then, you all see Kess come running around the corner as she emerges from the stable. Her arcane fire bolt slams right into the troll's groin and explodes in a burst of flame, immediately igniting the greasy loincloth and causing a small blast of sparks and smoke. Both Chrys and the guard instinctively shield their eyes from the blast, and then you all watch as the troll lets out a deafening, sickly shriek and collapse to the ground in a lifeless heap of charred, bloody grimy flesh.
Kess visibly cringes at the sight of impromptu pyrotechnics, having NOT intended to blow the beast to pieces... before collecting herself, breathing in calmly and smoothing out her nightgown.
"Is... is everybody alright...?" She asks, hoping the blast hadn't caused undue harm. "We should burn these bodies, and quickly... trolls have a way of springing back up from death without their remains being tended to."
Kess looked around uneasily, taking a moment to survey the surroundings of this part of Calling Horns from where she stood.
(That was bold of these two... very much so. We're not in the Evermoors proper yet, so what could have prompted this...?)
For now, she decided to keep that to herself. It was still late in the night.
"Damn,"Chrys says, panting and holding her side. "Where the heck did those things come from?" She hobbles over to the guard to check if he's in need of aid.
(So my character sheet is showing all my spell slots used? Did we get a long rest before the troll fight?)
"I can help make the bodies go away!" Krackle would offer before hitting each if the dead trolls with a volume more bursts of flame. He would then quickly look over the corpses for anything of value before attempting to pull the bodies to an area where he could use his magic to bury them. Grabbing the troll by the finger, he would grunt and strain to move the body before giving up and wiling sweat feon his forehead
Kess would move to try and help to haul the dead troll out from the stable, and then as soon as it is safe to do so, set fire to the corpse whether it be where Krackle intends to bury the remains, or in a pit. She wasn't going to take any chances that the large, muscular brutes could suddenly spring back to life from their horrific, potent healing powers.
As the battle winds down, some of the villagers leave the scene and return to their homes, but a number of people continue to stand around, grouped together, holding each other and gasping in both fear and relief that no one died this evening, save for the one poor horse who was ripped open by the troll.
As Chrys approaches the guard that she helped take down the outside troll, he does appear to be tired and quite battered from the furious encounter. He does his best to stand up straight with a stoic demeanor as he wipes his sword free of grisly troll blood and grime. "From the 'moors," he answers. "They're been more of 'em showin' up of late. Good 'o you to help us... this one was a particular bugger, but in my experience, they all are. Yer musician friend there's a brave one... He got a couple o' good stabs in, but he took a big hit too. So did you... how's yer head?"
Krackle and Kess help with the task of dragging the troll corpses out and away from the center of the village, while a handful of other able bodied folk also lend their aid. After hauling them to a barren place a couple hundred feet north of the stable, you burn and bury the charred, mutilated bodies under as much dirt and rock as you can muster, using Krackle's Mold Earth cantrip to make the process a lot easier and more thorough. The other two guards who were in the stable also thank Kess and Krackle for their bravery and help in the battle.
As Lumen staggers to his feet, he sees Madame Zoar approach. "Goodness, that might have been much worse if you and your friends weren't around! Are you alright? It seemed as if that awful creature cut you down for good, but thankfully, you walked away from death's doorstep. The gods must look favorably upon you, master Lumen."
"This is not the first time we've seen trolls here in the village, but their frightening attacks have been more common in recent months. So, you and your companions could not have arrived in Calling Horns at a more apt time. I am most grateful for your aid."
Lumen catches his breath and says, "takes more than a hit like that to bring Lumen Vork down, Madame Zoar. I'm just glad no one else was hurt. More trolls than normal, hmm? I wonder what could be causing that. They're just coming here to eat horses? Nothing else?"
"It seems that we are all full of surprises, aren't we Master Lumen." As you stand close and see Madame Zoar by torchlight in the middle of the night, you notice that in her "interrupted" state of being, with her hair thrown into a quick bun, she appears not to be in her 40s or 50s, but more likely in her 60s. Even though, she is still quite energetic.
"As for the trolls... one can't live on the edge of the Evermoors without living in the constant threat of trolls, but I do not know why they would start venturing this far south on a regular basis. I suppose that to a troll, a few horses appear far most tasty than a few men and ladies. My deputies have so far done a good job protecting us and keeping them at bay, but I sent out a handful of them on a scouting mission this evening, which is why we were only left with three when the attack occurred. Again, it's a good thing that you were here to lend your fighting skills and help out Ruger, Zefal and Lillia. Without your assistance, I'm afraid things could have gone much worse."
Lumen nods as Madame Zoar talks, listening intently. He then looks over the rest of his friends to ensure everyone seems okay. He goes over to the other deputies to shake their hands and congratulate them on their martial skill, thanking them for fighting with him.
"I'm sorry that we couldn't save all of the horses, but I am glad that that none of us have to consider a funeral tomorrow," Kess would say with a smile, having now straightened her hair and stifling a yawn. "Oh, excuse me... in any case, I am concerned about that too, Madame Zoar. The fact that these trolls risked the hazards of coming so near to civilization and the risk of flame is very, very troubling. Mayhaps we should relay our concerns to Silverymoon or Mithral Hall, if we pass close to them? I don't want to overthink this, but you are right to say that it is odd for these trolls to have been so far from their swampy home. In any case... I think we're all very tired, and that these three should be commended for their bravery first thing in the morning. It's not easy to face a troll in combat and live to tell the tale."
"Thank you, dear," Madame Zoar says to Kess, "and I am glad too that noone was killed here tonight. You and your companions certainly made difference here tonight, and so I very much appreciate your valiant efforts to help my brave deputies protect the citizens of Calling Horns. For that, I would like to refund the cost for your night's stay at the inn, and if you should like to stay here again, either now, or if you pass through here again in the future, then your room and board will be on me."
"And by all means, feel free to relay this information about our troll problem, if you know of anyone who night be able to help. For now, though, please do return to your room and drop yourself into bed again. I will do the same as soon as I finish conferring with my deputies and calm the others."
The three injured guards seem a little wary of the little kobold at first, but the clearly recognize that Krackle and his friends were instrumental in dispatching the trolls, so they accept the healing with gracious thanks. They also return Lumen's handshake and praise him for his own bravery, especially the one he aided against the outside troll.
Soon, the crowd begins to disperse and return to their homes, and so you all do the same and make your way back to your room at the inn, where you find that sleep comes easily as soon as your mind and body calm down.
Lumen
As Lumen is returning to the inn, he watches as the group of bystanders thins out. Throughout the whole episode, he can recall recognizing many of the people from the inn, since he had a good view of the crowd while playing his songs on stage. From his casual observation, it would seem that most of the patrons and other travelers where out there in the street, watching the attack unfold with frightened interest. However, he doesn't recall see the man who they passed in Melton, who he spoke briefly with earlier this evening. Of course, he can't be sure, since it was such a chaotic episode, and it was dark, but given that he did recognize a number of the other patrons, it just seems a little odd.
"If them trolls are comin' after yer horses, then somethin's drivin' away the trolls from their usual huntin' grounds. They're mean, make no mistake, but they're hungry, an' they ain't brave enough to go huntin' in their usual stompin' grounds. I'm just hopin' this don't have anything to do with our friend in the woods,"Chrys says suspiciously.
She spends some time laying her hands on the injured, healing them for what she can, before, completely exhausted, retiring to her room for the night. The events of the day weigh heavily in her mind, but the exhaustion is stronger than even that, and soon she falls asleep.
Lumen does his best to describe the man to Zoar on his way back in, reminding her that he's the one Lumen spoke to after his performance. "He head up to his room before the alarm went off? Heavy sleeper? I don't see him out here. Just curious."

Are we just waiting to see if Vesper wants to change her action?
Vesper would redirect her Fire Bolt towards the other troll.

Lumen thanks his friends for once again healing him. He staggers to his feet and begins looking for answer about how often this happens...
