When involved in a chase, you can run for 3 + you CON modifier without needing a check. After that, you’ll need to start making checks.
The participants will be Dashing, thus covering double distance each round. If you want to cast spells or use ranged attacks you’d need to take a regular move and action, so they would be gaining distance on you each round. Plus, the trees provide light cover, and there’s a chance you’d lose sight of them as they get further away. You’d need to make Perception checks each round to keep them in sight.
For now, though, they’re only 30’ away, so Vesper can lob a fire bolt at the troll right now, then complete your move, and we’ll see how things progress. Everyone else can either do a similar action or join the chase.
After hurling his dagger at the fleeing troll, Lumen sees Kess take off running and he also joins the chase, quickly catching up to them. Chrys hurls her javelin at the troll and lands a direct hit with a spectacular display of aim that sends the weapon flying right past Kess's shoulder. After watching it strike the troll solidly in the back, she also takes off running, trying to catch up as her short legs carry her and her heavy armor through the forest.
I'll wait to see what Vesper and Nym do. (I'm assuming that Vesper will shoot another fire bolt, so I'll wait for her roll.) Lumen would be able to cast his spell next round after the troll takes his next move.
Nym takes off after the troll with the others but knowing she just has enough for one last spell in her she reserves it. Instead focusing on dashing after the monster and not tripping over any foliage or her own two feet. "Don't let it get away!"

Leaping like a lioness to close the gap with the troll, Kess plunges both of her weapons over her and downward in a manner not dissimilar to a pair of fangs closing on flesh, aimed for either small of the troll's shoulders.
Despite its large body and long-limbed, lumbering body, the troll moves with surprising speed as it races through the trees with long strides. Kess does her best to remain right on its tail, sprinting between, around, and beneath trunks and branches, trying to keep up, her heart racing as she races through the dark woods with dance-like agility. Another missile sails right by her head, and Kess can feel the whoosh of hot air against her cheek as Vesper's fire bolt whizzes by and slams into the troll's back with a small puff of smoke and flame.
Also joined in the chase are Lumen and Nym, who, with her longer legs, passes Chrys, as all three fly by Vesper, who had stopped to cast her fiery cantrip.
After a few seconds, the troll has covered 90 feet of ground, with the three pursuers following about 30 feet behind. Chrys, who is even further back, suddenly loses sight of the creature, as it begins to blend in with the trees and thick brush in the darkness.
Lumen can stop and try to cast his spell now, but would need to roll a Perception check to see if he can keep the troll in sight while he casts.
Also, need a Perception check from Vesper.
And, I need a straight d20 roll from everyone, and a Perception check from everyone for next round.

However, when he plants his feet and looks back up, he loses sight of the troll as it disappears into the darkness inside the thick forest with Kess and Nym hot on its tail. A few seconds later, they too fade into the blackness beyond the range of his Darkvision.
Vesper also Loses sight of them, and so Lumen, Chrys and Vesper find themselves together, separated from their two other companions.
Up ahead, the troll keeps charging through the trees with long strides, while Kess and Nym keep pace in close pursuit. At one point, you see it leap over a small ravine, and the obstacle almost catches Kess by surprise.
Need an Acrobatics or Athletics check of DC10 to clear the jump, otherwise it will become 10 feet of difficult terrain, and you'll lose some ground. And I need two more d20 rolls from both Kess and Nym.
Nym keeps her breathing as even as possible as she sprints after the troll, trying to close the distance and keeping even pace with her fellow elf along side her.

Just then, Nym comes up behind and leaps across the ravine, but doesn't cross quite so deftly. Using a bit more caution across the fallen log, she treads carefully and arrives on the other side, catching up with her companion.
The troll gains a little bit of distance on them, but both elves take off running after it once again, with Lumen following about 40 feet behind.
