Al-Ashari still under "see invisibility" spell looked around and probably confidently assured Merric, that if the thing is watching, it does not do it from that room. May be not from that plane even. "I also do not think Cecilia was the one making these notes. But that could be something, that brought us all here. Do not know about you, but I had terrible dreams about that place way before I was summoned and locked in here. Remember the note in her room? She was lured in that place. And ended up in the Asylum."She suddenly sighed and said in very tired voice: "I do not want to go to Undercity, or to fight the monsters on the stairs or anywhere else. I want to find the way out of here."
She sighted again. "Still, while we are trapped and before we leave that ... Inn... Can we check a couple other rooms? Who knows, may be their will be something useful. Even madness has some logic in it."
Merric eyes Al-Ashari with a compassionate gaze. "Lass, I'm not wantin' to be fightin' supernatural beasties or delvin' this undercity anymore'n ye. But I'm thinkin' none of us...not you, nor me, nor any...are leavin' this place until we figure out what be makin' this place tick. An' that means goin' places. It means killin' things. It means takin' risks. I am an agent of the Golden Hin and takin' risks is what we do but I'm preferrin' to take the risk I'm choosin'. But this is the hand we been dealt." He paused, a mischievous grin on brightening his face. "If you're wantin' I'll hold yer hand." He gives her big wink.
"You can keep your hand, "lad"," Al-Ashari's irritation was obvious though the tone was cold and even, "together with your unwelcome patronizing - I happen to fight more things here and "go places" than you did already. Glad your curiosity is still with you, but my is not. I am done "going places" for the sake of going. Cleaning up the stairs will allow us to move easily, true, and I'll do my part in the fight. But then I intent to think and learn first before moving anywhere. Right now I need to know what is behind some other doors to assess if this place is of any use in the future or just another random "place" with no purpose as everything in here."
Al-Ashari moved to the next door near by: "Who has the key from that one?"
(I think, you hold up a key with a number, and the door kinda appears before you? Merric has the gigantic keyring, and Kale has no. 13)
Kale takes one last look around the room and shrugs. "Finding this girl is proving a harder task than I was expecting." He looks between Merric and Al-Ashari and says soothingly "Come now. Fighting amongst ourselves is exactly what this staying in this city for too long will do to us. But it's been made abundantly clear that if we're not working together in a team, we're monster fodder. Stow your differences for now, for we seem to have a common goal: root through as many rooms as we can on this staircase, looking for valuables or clues, while trying to draw out that creature you fought before and defeat it, once and for all, in order to be able to traverse this staircase freely.
I'll admit I'm not eager at all to fight any kind of monster on this staircase. And having a strategy beforehand, devised primarily by those of you who actually fought it before - (Here, Kale looks at Whitegaze)- would be exceedingly helpful. But even I can't deny that these staircases would be the fastest and most reliable way to traverse a constantly shifting city, if only they weren't stalked by danger.
Let's remove the danger, and gather some wealth along the way. Then planning our next move will be much easier. We even have this handy madman's map to guide us, so long as we hang on to the keys to room 13."
Bear, being a bit too stupid to follow any of this conversation, simply stands ready to maul anything that appears and tries to attack the party, anywhere, at any time, while constantly sniffing the air for danger.
Merric listens to his companions and nods. "My apologies, Al-Ashari. I was not attemptin' to patronize, but to offer comfort an' support an' tryin' to give you a chuckle wit the hand thing. It fell flat...an I'm sorry." He bows.
"Let us be checkin' out the other rooms, now. I'm thinkin' Al-Ashari's idea be a good one."
"And I apologize for my outburst," Al-Ashari lowered her had for a moment. She noted all the places they have not been yet on the map and now was ready to look behind another door.
Whitegaze will remain in the hallway, chuckling a little at the memory of his own feeble attempt to flirt with her. Looking to Kale, "It was shrouded in darkness, but we were able to land a few blows, eventually it just seemed to stop noticing them though, like it could just shrug the off. I can hit pretty hard, but that's about all I got, perhaps with a couple magic users we could figure out something that works a little better."
„Hmm. My driftglobe might come in handy fighting it then... perhaps exposing it to daylight will give us an edge. And here‘s a thought... if it began to shrug off your attacks towards the end with magic weapons, try hitting it with a weapon that isn‘t enchanted. It may not work, but it‘s worth a shot.“
Taking one last look a the map, Kale nods. „Let‘s get on with it then. Draw a key, and we‘ll have a look and see.“
Pulling out a random room key you grab #153. As you hold it the door to that room appears and you step into...
You manifest in a small, cozy room with no doors or windows. An old lady is asleep in a bed in the corner, tucked up in thick woolen blankets. A small candle by her bedside illuminates the chamber.
The old lady is dead, her body magically preserved by an unknown person.
Kale sends the bear into the room first, to be sure the way to the old lady's bedside isn't trapped with any nasty surprises. Should his bear remain hale and healthy, he follows it in, renewing the light spell on its ribbon, and then getting to work investigating the corpse. Who was she? Why might she had been preserved? And most importantly, what valuables did she have in the room or on her person?
Merric stands quietly at the door, watching outside. The others were perfectly capable of searching the room and he wanted to keep an eye behind them. This place was weird.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(A note I had missed earlier. Once you use a room key you all enter the room, not just some of you. It is like a mini teleport I guess.)
As you materialise in this room, your gaze is met by the luminescent eight-eyed stare of thousands of huge spiders, coating the walls ceiling and floor.
"Get us out of here!" Lia calls as she casts wall of force she puts the wall up as a box around the group. three spiders are inside the area, all others are on the far side of the wall.
If your initiative is before the spiders you can take your action. Only the one with the key can activate it to get you back to the stairs.

Whitegaze also stays at the back of the group outside, wary for the approach of the creature from before. (Help).
Lia would stay outside of the room as well, next to Whitegaze and Merric.
Kale's bear has no issues getting to the bed. Kale himself doesn't find anything of value or interest in the room, just a preserved corpse.
Another random nonsense. Al-Ashari was expecting something like this, but just to be sure wanted to check a couple more rooms.

Kale and his bear leave the corpse be and exit the room with a shrug - "Nothing to see there. Shall we try another?"
Merric nods, "Yes, me frens. Let's do another room." Selecting a key at random, Merric 'opens' the door.
