"We can try stairs again,"did not argue Al-Ashari, "though "thinking hard" already proved useless. Unless, of course it was not hard enough." "Or we can ask our sweet and patient tavern keeper - he seemed to use it in the past."
(Would the trip have been long enough for Whitegaze to attune to his new sword? Or time at the manor or something?)
Whitegaze would move over to the shrine and draw the sword and kneel before it for a moment of silence. When he was done he'd turn to the others, "Shall we?"

As the general consensus seems to be the stairs...
Entering the infinite stairs, you once again are on the now-familiar stairway. The door, that you know leads to the small shrine, stands closed nearby. Do you travel up or down?
Lia works to squish as much of the water from her tunic and cloak as possible, leaving a growing pool of water around her feet. Once a good portion is out of the cloth, she starts to cast prestidigitation drying the clothes even further. After a minute or so she is fully dry and looking much less like a drowned rat. Only then realizing she is probably getting looks from the others, she shrugs. "I can dry your stuff too if you want to take the time..." Sh eoffers.

"Yes, we shall. I will take the lead." Suiting actions to words, Merric strides in. "I'm thinkin' you should be stayin' close, though, me fren', you an' that shiny new toy o' yours."

"It's better when two work together as one," Kale tells Lia with a wink, also helping to dry the others with his magic. Once everyone looks significantly less sodden, Kale willingly lets the others go forward. "I'll watch your backs, if you don't mind," he says, more than happy to remain far behind any oncoming danger. Still, being aware that danger can come from all sides, he pulls out another puff of fur from his bag of tricks, and throws it down.

Something like a billy goat springs into existence next to Kale, and he ties a bit of string around its horn and lights it up. "Help me keep watch, Billy," he tells the creature with a grin.
Kale takes his own advice, and sharpens his senses as he looks out for danger, directing his well-lit goat to help him scout and ensure no danger encroaches on the party from behind.

"Flip a coin, I say we go down," Kale say amicably as the party tries to decide on a direction.
"Continue on the stairs then?" Lia asked, looking to the door. "If this place is more structural, then we might wish to know what is at each landing, as it may help us to find our way around later..." She will not press opening the door, as she recalls the room filled with spiders quite well.
Before the party moves - no matter up or down - Al-Ashari scratched a mark on the wall near the door to the shrine (or at least tried to do it - who knows, the can be something here that works).

(Remember, opening a door is a teleport, everyone is taken into the area...)
This grand arched hall runs 300 feet ahead of you into the distance. The whole room is lit briefly by flashes of lightning through stained glass windows untouched by time. At the far end of the hall, a faceless statue looms over twenty feet tall. It has its hands folded and stands as if expectant. Elsewhere in the room, stone benches face towards the statue. Empty alcoves line the walls. A skeleton lies near the foot of the statue, curled up in the fetal position.
Someone has carved the image of a spider into the western wall, under one of the alcoves.
The room is spotless, ominously so. A bucket and mop lie in the corner, and a keen eye might notice they’re not covered in dust, so must have been used recently.
"You just had to be opennin' the door, eh' Whitegaze, me fren?" Exasperation tinged Merric's voice but no rancor. "Aye, well, we might as well be seein' what we can be seein'...aye an' hearin'."
Merric peers around the room, looking for anything, listening for anything.
"Sorry in advance," Kale tells everyone, then turns around and holds up his mirror, angling it so he can see the room behind him clearly. Then, he says succinctly, "Mirror, Mirror, in my hand, show me Kale Fencan as I really am." He watches the reflection of the room closely, mostly ignoring his own appearance in the mirror.
(PS: don't forget to include Billy Goat and possibly Care Bear as party members!)
"When you are done hurting us with the mirror," Al-Ashari was not even sarcastic, more like matter-of-fact-y, "I have another idea for the stairs - may be the dagger can help."
The room appears as it did without the mirror, no illusions or hidden things to be seen. All of the group appears as they should, though several of Lia's rings and other things appear more see-through, her clothes are still solid though...
There is also no other door from this room, only the entrance to the infinite stairs.
Whitegaze winces briefly, then rolls his eyes at Kale, “Was it worth it at least? And I’m very tempted to take the mop and bucket with us to see who comes looking for it...” He’ll wander over and look at the carving.

Moving down the stairs, you come to another door. Listening and watching, you hear no signs of anything else on the stairs with you, yet.
Whitegaze shrugs again, ”Down’s as good as up to me, let’s go.”
