Flynt Perception - 5

Renny did the dagger after that and the spell can only be up on one thing, so the stone is just a stone now. But she still has the dagger with her so there's light around her. right now she's sort of staying around the first hall where people split up. She's not keen to go poking around crypts and .. well they split up! She's keeping equal distance between them just in case.

(Renny that's right, I totally forgot about the dagger. Thanks for reminding me! So Ignatia and Renny both have light sources lit and are holding them, so lots of light in here now for folks who can't see in the dark)

Ok everyone - there's an event which is about to happen in this particular moment given what everyone has now done.

I have everything squared away that I need, with the exception of one missing piece:

Ignatia, can you tell me which slab you decided to investigate?

OOC: Rose.

Renny - you seem a bit annoyed that the party has split up, and point your lit up dagger down the hallway so Flynt can see. 

Ignatia - you inspect Rose's slab and learn what I've already described about it (it's possible to open)

Shae and Flynt - you both head down the southern passageway and end up in a larger room with one large table with long benches. Seems like some sort of dining hall. 

There are bones on the ground. Looks like humanoid but you can't tell for sure. 

BAM! It happens. In this moment, you are all situated as per the map below. There is a creature of some sort, more like a monstrosity... hiding, blending into the rock and earth walls in the alcove on the east wall of the dining hall. It saw the two of you come into the room (it can see in the dark) and begins to slither and slop its way towards you. You are quite startled by this and are completely surprised by it (this was the result of your failed rolls). Shae THINKS she sees something at the last second, but it's too late. It catches her off guard. 

So.... The entire party will be surprised for the first round of combat which starts now. Flynt and Shae had the rolls to avoid being surprised but failed. Ignatia and Renny are surprised because they wouldn't have noticed the threat as they did not follow.

Everyone please roll for initiative!

”Wha— gross! Everyone! Some kind of... slug!”

Caught off guard, Shae’s words are jumbled and confusing, but she sinks into a defensive stance, staff in front of her. 

(Once Flynt posts initiative I will start combat Sunday upon my return home. Also, if I miss something during combat or anywhere else for that matter please let me know. It's hard to keep track of your character sheets and remember features etc. once the levels go up! Also, I bet every one of you has more experience with d&d than me, so by all means if I mess something up or something seems wonky please let me know. It will make me a better player and DM. Flynt Intiative - 6

Ok here we go! Apologies once again for the delay. 

Round 1 (all PC's are surprised for Round 1 as described earlier)

Slug

The slug-like creature moves forward from its crevice in which it was blending in with. Its barbed tentacles fling around in the air, and in the middle of the creature you see its snapping beak, almost looking like a giant snapping turtle, snapping away looking for flesh. It slithers towards Flynt since he is the larger of the two who are in the room, and whips its tentacles at him, trying to slice him across the dragonborn's face -> Attack: 24 Damage: 18

-> while Shae can easily see in the dark, Flynt has a hard time seeing, and the light from Ignatia's lantern and Renny's dagger is a bit faded in this larger room. That could be one of the reasons why the slug like creature was able to make such mincemeat out of Flynt. The creature moved towards him as he caught the party off guard, and flung its giant tentacles all around Flynt. He quickly realized that the tentacles have blades on the ends of them, and even though his shield was up and armor on, these little blades were able to find their way into the slits of the armor and they cut him up. BAD. The slug kept slashing and slashing and slashing..... until Flynt's bloody body crumpled to the ground. He lay in an extremely large pool of his own blood. Flynt is Unconscious

Round 2

Shae, Renny and Ignatia are up!

Flynt, please make a death saving throw (if one of the others does something which eliminates the need for that before you get to it, then I will adjust accordingly).

Map:

OOC: Flynt's max HP was 20. He's not just unconscious, he's dead.

Another image of this thing to get an idea of those blades on the ends of the tentacles that cut up Flynt.

I forgot to mention, the creature also started to snap away at Flynt's motionless body after he went down with its snapping mouth, and this was noticed by everyone. (this freakish thing gets 2 melee attacks if attack 1 is a hit. The roll wasn't necessary though.)

(I should actually make the second roll for the attack, because technically it did happen, and it may actually kill Flynt outright... imagine if it does....)

Attack: 11 Damage: 7

(nope, it didn't. So Flynt is still unconscious.)
