Renny has been busy exploring the books on the shelf, "Oh nice.. history... hmm, I wonder.." she starts searching specifically now, "dragons.. dragons... here dragon dragon book."

"No boom today. Boom tomorrow. There's always a boom tomorrow" "No power in the 'verse can stop me"
Ignatia, after you take one of the maids uniforms, you look in the footlockers, but they are empty. You also noticed that the dumbwaiter box in this room is on this floor, with some empty dusty dishes in it.
Renny, you do actually find a book in the main section of the library about dragons. Black dragons. It’s mostly about eggs, and the main character seems to be someone who found black dragon eggs, hatched them, then the babies all turned on him and killed him. You’re not sure if it’s fiction or not.
You see a 2-foot wide stone shaft containing a wooden elevator box (which is on the second floor currently... you can see it) attached to a simple rope and pulley mechanism that must be operated manually. The rope and pulley system can be operated from any floor, and it seems you can either move the elevator box up or down from it's current position.
Your sense from looking at the pulley system (it seems to be in pretty good condition) is that the dumbwaiter could hold around 200 pounds of weight before breaking.
Renny, you take the black dragon egg book from the library.
Shae, when you inspect the chest, you realize it's already half open. It's propped halfway open because the skeleton is halfway in it. The trap has already been triggered by this poor soul. More to come shortly!
Shae – when you inspect the skeleton more closely, you confirm again it is a human, with leather armor. It’s clutching a letter in its left hand, bearing the seal of Strahd von Zarovich. (all of your characters would’ve heard of or would be familiar with this well known vampire and dark lord of Barovia, which is where this story takes place). The letter, written in flowing script, reads:
My most pathetic servant,
I am not a messiah sent to you by the Dark Powers of the land. I have not come to lead you on a path to immortality. However many souls you have bled on your hidden altar, however many visitors you have tortured in your dungeon, know that you are not the ones who brought me to this beautiful land. You are but worms withering in my earth.
I am embarrassed that you call me your master, and your pitiful excuse for a cult pales in comparison to the power I wield. Your miserable cult is a joke. This is not how Count Strahd operates, and I will not allow this farce of a cult you have going to continue bearing my name.
Prepare to die.
Signed,
Strahd von Zarovich
You move the skeleton aside, and inside the chest you find:
3 blank books with leather cases (25gp each)
3 scrolls (bless, protection from poison, spiritual weapon)
The deed to this house
A signed will (signed by Gustav and Elizabeth Durst and bequeaths the house and property to children Rosavalda and Thornboldt Durst in the event of their parents death.)
Ignatia came back around into the other room, " For a haunted house theres a distinct lack of wretched spirits and the like....well, unless you count the skeletons, but they seemed more the puppets held together by dweomer type."
" Servants quarters are basically empty, theres a dumb-waiter to move between floors, but we have stairs for that anyway..."
Ignatia, the moment you leave the room and enter the hallway, you notice that Karlina's dead body is moving. It has managed to crawl into the main hallway. Suddenly, her body contorts an odd way, and then looks at you. You see Karlina's face... or what's left of it with her new form. Her body has animated into a zombie, and she's hungry for brains.
Everyone, please roll for initiative!
(the zombie is currently prone)
(Shae - we can address what you find in the chest as well as the letter after this battle. If she wants, that is.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.

Round 1:
Ignatia Flynt Shae Zombie Renny
Ignatia, you sling a stone at the prone zombie with deadly accuracy. The stone hits the zombie in the back, and actually passes right through the flesh. There's a hole through the body now about an inch and a half wide. The zombie makes a grunting noise, and begins to try and stand up. (takes 5 damage, critical hit!!)
Note: Flynt still has Protection from Evil and Good active that Ignatia casted earlier, but it will end after this combat.
Shae heard the sound of the battle, and launches herself out of the secret room, sprinting toward it. When she sees the risen comrade, she leaps the last five or so feet, striking first horizontally with her staff, aiming at its head, and then a spinning kick, landing nimbly on her other foot, poised perfectly in a panther style fighting pose, staff at her side, one hand high, and one leg pulled up, ready for a knife kick.
Staff: 18 Damage:7
Kick:17 Damage:4
(Move 30ft, weapon attack, bonus action for unarmed strike)

Ignatia examined the dumbwaiter carefully wondering if Renny would fit in it.....
Renny considers the book... shrugs, keeps it.
Renny is 5'3 and you'd guess around 100lbs.... but it might be a bad idea? She sets things on fire.

(Works for me DM, thanks!)
Shae takes a moment to inspect the skeleton and the chest before calling out to the others.
“There’s a chest in here. Someone decided whatever’s inside to be valuable enough to trap it, too. Looks like poison darts...”
She takes a moment to inspect the lock, and then starts to get out her thieve’s tools.
“I’ll work on this, has anyone else found anything interesting?”
(I have a sneaking suspicion of where that key goes, so i’ll wait to roll anything to unlock the chest for now)
Shae, when you inspect the chest, you realize it's already half open. It's propped halfway open because the skeleton is halfway in it. The trap has already been triggered by this poor soul. More to come shortly!

Flynt nods and places the iron key in his pocket. "This key could prove useful to us. The only question is where does it go?"

Flynt is up!
Shae feel free to post your move as well, and I’ll just process it after Flynts turn.
Map with axis, forgot to add it earlier.
