Teapot scrambles to his feet, bobbing his head obsequiously and clicking his tongue. Slipping out into the growing light of morning, you all leave the looted warehouse and its corpses behind, turning one corner just as a squad of the Watch comes around another to descend on the scene of the violence.
From the vicinity of the warehouse, the party’s kenku captive leads them through a series of alleys to a circular metal cover inset in the pavement, not far from the looming figure of The Honorable Knight. The cover is easily lifted, revealing a ladder down into the sewers.

How do you proceed?
"Teapot, will there be guards immediately inside, or will we have to go through the sewers for a bit?"
Glancing about the party, Falshen shrugs and pulls his cowl over his mouth and nose, "Into the odiferous bowels of the city we go. I'll take point unless anyone objects."
[OOC: unless there's an objection, Falshen will decend into the sewers]

"As much as I despise being in the front lines, I'd hate to have gotten all dressed up for nothing." Kenku-Gregor says, "Why don't Teapot and I lead, see what we can get out of these goons in a peaceful manner, THEN bring the rest of the group out?"
Falshen nods, "I figured to stay hidden and, once we near our destination, to drop back. However, I feel that one of us should precede the good sir Teapot in case his allegiance should revert." With a glance and a grin at the Kenku, he adds, "Perhaps I besmirch you unjustly, but as yet we've only your borrowed words to afirm your loyalty." Looking back to Gregor, he continues, "I would feel more comfortable having seen voluntary actions to match."

Clambering down the rusty ladder leading into the sewers, you find yourselves in a narrow tunnel leading off to right and left, a putrid stream trickling by under your feet. In one direction, you see a tiny symbol drawn on the wall in yellow chalk: a palm-sized circle with ten equidistant spokes radiating out from its circumference.
When everyone has gathered, Falshen offers his hooded lantern and an oil flask to anyone who wishes to hold/use it. Once all are ready, he addresses Gregor and Teapot, "I'll take the lead, but warn me when we're getting close - I'll drop back and you two can move up from there." With that, he moves off in the direction corresponding with the yellow mark, staying out of the party's light as much as the architecture allows. He will stay ahead, but never too far from the group (within 20'-60', based on the radius of the light at any given moment).
Irma takes the lantern and lights it up, he kneels down and follows Falshen. Irma will keep within 15 feet of Falshen, he will be attempting to follow as stealthily as possible. He will hold the lantern with one hand, and hold his hammer with the other (Irma is ambidextrous) his shield will be on his back.
After an hour of following signs through the tunnels, you come upon a three-way intersection where a ladder leads up into a stone shaft capped by a circular metal cover. One of the familiar chalk symbols is marked on a wall nearby. Floating near the symbol is a spherical, grapefruit-sized creature with a bulging central eye and four stumpy eyestalks.
Falshen spots the creature from some 60 feet away. It does not appear to have noticed him, or the rest in the shadows behind him.
Falshen signs to the rest to hold up with one hand while drawing a dagger with the other. He observes the creature for a few moments, watching for signs to indicate its purpose here.
[OOC: Falshen is wondering if it is 'standing' guard, patrolling, or possibly waiting for someone ‐ he is watching for any indications].

For a while it just bobs about for a bit, twitching and making guttural noises. At one point a mangy sewer rat skitters past, and one of the thing's eye stalks blasts it with a ray of strange energy, briefly disorienting the vermin before it is messily devoured.
Irma pauses, sets his hammer down and partially covers the lantern in an attempt to dim it's light. He peers forward at the creature and concentrates on observing it. Irma is attempting to observe the creature closely. Following the result of the roll Irma will whisper to the rest of the group that he is going to turn off the lantern, put it away and pick up his hammer and ready his shield. He will then move closer behind Falshen as quiet as he can.

Pulling back, Falshen whispers a brief description of the creature to Gregor and Teapot. Then, to Teapot, he adds, "Please indicate you answers with nods for yes or shakes for no - no sounds: did you know this creature was here?" Falshen pauses for an answer before continuing. "If it sees you and Gregor, will it attack you two?" Based on Teapots answers, Falshen will either suggest he sneak attacks from the shadows while the party draws the creature's attention OR that he and the party launch sneak/surprise attacks while Gregor and Teapot distract it.
As Falshen whispers to the kenku, Irma fumbles his lantern and drops it, sending clattering echoes ringing up and down the sewer tunnel. In the distance, the be-tentacled aberration spins around and begins to float in your direction, its every eye stalk peering furiously, though it does not seem to have spotted you yet.
The kenku shakes its head at Falshen's first question, and nods furiously at the second.

The kenku shakes his head.
"No guards," he says in Gregor's voice, "go through the sewers for a bit." And then in a thin, nasally voice, "Follow the yellow signs."
