He hears Gerrard's call, “We’ve got a crewman coming up to help, Captain Fenwader.” "Able seaman to captain in less'n a week. My fortune's on quite a rise!"
He meets Dwal and their newest crewman on the Main Deck. "Master Dwal, there's another new recruit up on the forecastle who's a bit banged-up. Is there anything you can do -- short of pitching him overboard -- to stop his wretched caterwauling?" He sizes up the boy. "Welcome aboard the... Well I don't know what that heap on the poop deck called 'er. So welcome aboard Fiercehammer's Curse! I suppose I'm actin' captain, for tonight at least, so I'll need a fearsome nom de guerre. Any suggestions? No? I'm leaning toward 'The Dread Pirate Lackbeard'. As you can see, lad, we're woefully short-handed. How'd you cram so many hands on this sloop? Seemed a bit over-manned, but what do I know about piratin'? Anyhow, we have a few problems t' deal with, startin' with a lack o' sails. Some damned boarders burned 'em up for no reason a'tall. Well don't stand there gapin', boy! Break out the spare sails, pronto!" He sends the bewildered boy off to fetch a spare sail, then uses his eldritch sight to detect magic and climbs the ladder to the poop deck. He searches the captain's body for anything useful (documents, keys, valuables, etc.).
The parrot wakes up as Gerrard and Qivys enter the room. "Fat pig!" it shrieks. "Kill 'em all!"
It's a very large, old, battered, wooden chest. Seeing no obvious traps, Gerrard flips it open with the tip of his blade. It appears very full - mostly dirty undergarments by the look of the top layer, at least. It doesn't smell so good.
”Looks like a place to hide treasure no one would want to search,” says Gerrard, wrinkling his nose in disgust. “It seems to have worked on me,” he adds. He moves to the starboard door and opens it.

Overwhelmed, the boy nods vaguely at Peri's speech and darts off.
Peri's eldritch sight picks up a couple of minor disturbances in the weave - in two spots somewhere behind the aft doors on the main deck, directly under the poop deck.
The captain has a hand crossbow up his sleeve, and a belt pouch containing a small iron key, which Peri pockets.
The boy peeks up over the top of the ladder to the poop deck. "Uh," he begins. "Uh, we don't have spare sails. Uh, sir. Cap'n."
Gerrard opens the door to starboard. "Kill 'em all! Kill 'em all! Kill 'em all!" shrieks the parrot.
Gerrard finds a similar cabin to the last. A single bunk, the bed linen heaped in a pile, is set against the hull. At its foot is a brass-bound wooden sea chest, its lid closed. Under the bunk is a brass box, also closed. On the door hangs a dark blue cloak. In the center of the cabin, a plain wooden table is bolted to the deck. On it are two books, one open and propped up against the other. Beside the table is a wooden chair. Hanging from the ceiling over the table is an unlit hooded lantern.
Peri is stunned by the boy's report. He rants at the body of the old captain, "What kinda dim-witted fool goes t' sea with nary a spare sail?! You've got a baker's dozen crew and tons o' contraband crammed into this hull, but not one sail?! You deserve whatever bad luck befell ya!" He stomps down the ladder to the main deck, forcing the as-yet-unnamed crewman to backpedal out of the way. He shouts down the hatch into the hold, "Misters Qivys and Gerrard, while you're searching belowdecks, keep an eye out for spare sails or the sailmaker's kit. We may have to sew up our own jury-rigged sail out o' some of that cloth in the hold!" He turns on his heel and heads toward the door that seems to lead to the source of the magical glow. "All right, boy, you stick with me. And what's your name? Can't go around callin' you 'boy'!" Without waiting for a response he pushes through the door.

Gerrard:
"Understood, captain," calls the young noble back up to Peri. Gerrard will then head over and take a look at the books. He will then try the same opening method as before for the chest and the box--an inspection followed by a careful opening with a blade. If he runs into trouble opening the brass box especially, he enlists Qivys' help.

"Uh. They call me Elbows, sir," mumbles the boy into the night air.
Peri's eldritch sight had picked up two distinct locations somewhere behind the four doors, both starboard and port, so he tries the door nearest to the ladder he just descended.
It opens easily. This seems to be one of the master cabins. The furnishings and fittings are of good quality, and the place is tidy. A single bunk, made up with bed linen, has its head against a bulkhead running along the centerline of the ship.
A polished wood table stands in the center of the room, bolted to the deck. On the table is a silver bowl containing an assortment of fruit, a silver carafe half full of a light red liquid, and a silver goblet. Set at the table are two upright wooden chairs and a padded leather chair.
On the deck toward the stern is a wooden, brass-bound chest. Beside it is a pair of highly polished black leather boots. From the center of the ceiling, over the table, hangs an unlit hooded lantern.
The books are "Principles of Navigation" by Da Korma (open) and "Legal Distinctions in Letters of Marque" by Tazaar (closed). They probably have some value to the right buyer.
Next, he studies the chest and the brass box:
Perception for chest: 2
Perception for brass box: 1
Gerrard perceives the larger container to be a chest, and the smaller one to be a box made of brass.
Probing with his blade, Gerrard finds that the sea chest is neither locked nor trapped. It contains some garments and a pair of boots, mostly quite old but reasonably clean.
The brass box under the bed, however, is locked. You need a key.
"Fat pig! Fat pig! Fat pig! Kill 'em all!" calls the parrot from the other room.

Peri:
"Elb- Yondalla help ya, boy! Get in here and close the door!" he barks at the boy. He waits while Elbows nervously enters and closes the door behind him, looking like a schoolboy called to the headmaster's. In a quieter voice, "I asked for your name. This was a real opportunity for ya. You couda told me anything. D'ya like the name 'Elbows?' Who wants t'be named 'Elbows?' Look, I think you're likely a decent lad what's got himself in over his head. So I'm givin' you this one chance for a do-over. You're lucky no one else heard you. Spend a few minutes thinkin' on what you want t'be called before I introduce you to the crew. And I'd advise against anythin' like 'Killer' or "Tim the Terrible' -- you don't look the part."
The shiny boots trigger his suspicion, as he doesn't recall the captain being bare-footed. He will conduct a thorough search of the cabin for any hidden compartments where a passenger might hide. Perception12 (Also, what's he seeing with his detect magic? He should be able to tell the school of magic of any items, though he doesn't really know anything about schools of magic.)
Grabbing the locked box to take with them, Gerrard suggests to Qivys, "After we check the bodies, we should look through the containers in the main hold to see if there is anything we can use for sails." Up through the grate, he answers, "We are trying to find anything useful, Master Fiercehammer. You are welcome to join us down here or search on the main deck level. No sails yet."

Elbows, put on the spot, begins to sweat. He looks rapidly around the room for ideas. "Uh... uh... 'Chair'? ...'Fruit'? ...'Boots'?...uh..." Peri senses an arcane item in the wooden, brass-bound chest, from the School of Evocation. There's something else in the unexplored cabin next door, of no specific school. Searching the room, he finds no hidden compartments.
The other crewman, meanwhile, cries out to Dwal in a fog of pain from the deck of the forecastle, still coming to his senses after being walloped by Peri. Perhaps he has a concussion in addition to his broken leg. "Me leg!" he cries, "Me leg – I think it's broke! Mama!"

Qivys
"Who's a good birdie? You talk to old Qivys. Any surprises around here? Fat pig. Who's the pig?"his discussion with the bird an attempt to get it to say something useful.
Failing that he follows behind Gerrard out of the room. Taking the nobleman's advice he searches the bodies of the fallen pirates in the hold, giving them a good kick as he does. "Bloody pirates"he grumbles.
He stares ruefully up at the youth. "Cherry Fruit-Boots it is! All right, Cherry, gimme a hand with this chest. Now, we're gonna carry this thing out to the main deck, and you're gonna meet the rest o' the crew. You've got until then to come up with a good name, or I swear I'm gonna call you Cherry Fruit Boots, and once they hear a name like that you'll never live it down. Better get that melon workin'."With the teen's help, he carries the chest out to the main deck. "Somethin' interestin' in this chest, but it could be it's a trap. Everybody stand clear!" When everyone is clear of the aft part of the main deck, he'll try the captain's key.
"Kill 'em all! Kill 'em all!" screams the parrot, excitedly, at Qivys. Learning nothing new, he begins to search the fallen crew. Other than some flimsy gear, the only item of interest is an iron key he finds in Frithoff's belt pouch.
Meanwhile, Cherry Fruit-Boots née Elbows stands slack-jawed, watching as Peri tries the captain's key on the chest. The key doesn't fit.
It is very dark, now the wee hours of the morning. The ship drifts gently northwest in the breeze, obliquely toward the cliffs. The Stone is nowhere to be seen. The four of you are very tired.

Turning to Cherry Fruit-Boots, he motions toward the other cabin door. "Let's go clear the other cabin, boy. Whose boots were in that last cabin? Are there any others aboard?" He will then open the door to the starboard cabin and give it a good once-over.
