Kei
Yawning, he sits up from a restless nights sleep. His "accommodation" certainly wasn't the best. "You need some coin you halfwit. How do you think you'll keep up with these adventurers on a poor nights sleep." He grumbles to the critters who joined him in the basement. With that thought in mind he discards the bed roll, leaving it for the next poor sod and gathers his himself together. "I have connections. Pfft. Great lot of good that did you dolt. Perhaps you should try to get along with these people. Couldn't hurt, could it?"Knowing his already established reputation at the bar he spends several minutes with his disguise kit in an attempt to hide his true identity. Deception17. Happy with his attempt, he sets off for the morning meeting. He continues to talk to himself the whole way to the Goat.
It was later than he hoped when he arrived. He walks in only to see an empty counter and a lone dwarf. Strange looking for a dwarf. White hair and an air of confidence. He chooses a seat a few tables away from the peculiar dwarf and waits for the others, who have presumably slept in.

Peri:
He gives the room a half-hearted once-over, not really seeing anything to indicate what led to Qivys's disappearance. He notices the drying liquid on the floor and puts his face as close as he can without making contact, then sniffs deeply. Investigation13 The smell sparks something in his memory.
He goes to his room to gather his adventuring kit and search once more - in vain, as it happens - for his pants. He sees the old pair of ship's pants, still splattered with bilge filth, balled up in the corner, and decides he'd rather wear the towel. He spends a few minutes with the towel and some string attempting to fashion it into some workable sarong ((I'd roll something to see how successful his crafting went but I have no idea what kind of roll that would be)). He shrugs into his pack and makes his way down to the tavern to meet up with his party. He sees Dwal and another vaguely familiar face -- he thinks he was involved in a fight with this human, but isn't sure if they were allies or adversaries. He's some kin to Elbin, so Peri decides to play it cool and see how the man reacts. "Well, good morning Keith!" he says cheerily, pleased to remember the man's name. "How does the mornin' find ya? We were about to head out on another perilous adventure to defeat the goblins menacing this fair hamlet. Will you be around to look in on Elbin while we're away?"
The liquid in Qivys' room appears to be some foul and unlikely combination of bird urine and cheap ale.
Peri attempts to make a functional sarong out of string and towel. Intelligence check: 19
He manages to succeed in making something rather strikingly fashionable, not at all like the goblin's nappy he feared it would turn into. It looks rather... exotic, as if he stepped out of another time, another world.
Kei's disguise might not fool a hungover halfling, but if Lankus recognizes the new arrival, he makes no sign of it. "Breakfast ale?" he offers.

Gerrard:
Disappointed they found no useful clues, Gerrard heads back downstairs while Peri figures out how to cover his a$$. Finding Dwal downstairs, Gerrard pulls up a chair and says, "We settled up Master Qivys' tab with the innkeeper and checked his room for clues. Nothing we could find indicates why he left in such a hurry without his gear in such an...undignified fashion, Brother Fiercehammer. Have you heard anything about which direction he might have been headed when he left the inn? Perhaps we could delay our trip to the goblin hole if we can find some fresh tracks and determine what happened to our friend."
Sighing, he adds, "But I am no tracker, so if we are to find him, we'll need someone who is, or perhaps someone skilled in magical tracking. Did he say anything to you to indicate he might be leaving for a while; where he might be going?"
Perception to notice Kei: 19
Amazingly for the typically unobservant noble, Gerrard recognizes the man from the night before, but remembers how he was received at the inn, so instead of blowing his cover nods respectfully in his direction and waits for him to join them. Moments later, Peri arrives and speaks his piece, breaking the ice with their new acquaintance.
Damn halfling he's ruining my disguise.Deciding to play it cool, Kei pretends not to recognise the halfling. "Sorry, you talkin to me?"He says with a deep gruff voice. "I don't know you sir. However if you have lost something, perhaps I can help you find it."Hoping his disguise holds to Lankus' scrutiny he accepts the breakfast ale. "And a round for my business colleagues here"he gestures to the table the others are gathered around. "And please see that we are not disturbed."He hands Lankus 2gp and waves his hand to indicate his intent for the change.
He returns the nod from the Duke-in-training as he approaches. "Now, shall we discuss your dilemma?"In a more hushed tone he adds "It's me Kei, I have bought us some privacy. My nephew has sent word to his ma. Again my gratitude. Let me repay the favour by helping you search for your friend. As a sign of good will, I'll even wave my usual fee."He kicks back a chair and takes a seat next to Dwal. "Nice hair. I have a tonic that may bring back your natural colour."
Dwal will eye the new stranger. "By the Weave who tha hell are you?" he blatantly asks. Dwal looks to Gerrard. "This one kin to you or somethin'?" he asks.
Dwal sends a message mentally to Bjorn to watch this new one.
Speaking quietly to Dwal while the innkeeper was otherwise occupied in the back, Gerrard says, “This is master Kei; he is Elbin’s uncle and we met him last night as he was being thrown out of the ‘Goat — thus the disguise, I suppose. Beyond that we know little of him.”
(OCC: well Dwal left with Bjorn to come to meet up with the party so, on his shoulder or out chasing rats for breakfast)
Dwal looks the stranger up and down a bit then says to Gerrard: "I ain't one to pry into personal matters of another Dwarf and Qivy's a capable "Und" (Dwarven for Warrior) so if'n he's not back by the time we get back from this little jaunt then i'd be inclined to look fer 'em."
Dwal looks around "Are you lot ready then?" he asks.
Nodding, Gerrard says, “Yes, I am ready. I share your hope that Master Qivys is okay, and will follow your lead in tracking him down when the time is right.”
Turning to Kei, he asks, “Do you have special skills that will allow you to track our friend if he does not return today?”

"I have been known to find things lost to others, yes. But I don't usually go looking for people. Quite often people come looking for me"he chuckles as he finishes his sentence. After seeing him thrown out last night it comes as no surprise to anyone.
"My offer stands. You helped out my nephew so I shall help you in return, until the debt is paid. If I can help with finding Master Qivys or another task, I shall" he stands and bows with a flourish of his robe. It billows with an unseen wind.

Dwal and Peri have plenty of rope, and there is another coil among Qivys' things. Lankus is willing to lend you a big hook - he sometimes uses it to load and unload barrels - provided you return it tonight upon your return. "Bring me back a souvenir from Burle or wherever it you're going!"
The party sets off on foot in the thick morning fog. The elderly guards at the gate pay almost no attention to you as you pass through.
It's a pleasant enough journey. The breeze is not cold, and the deep sandy ruts are easily bypassed on foot through the tall, yellowed grass along the edges of the ancient highway. Only the dense fog is reason for unease - you can barely see forty feet in any direction - turning the silent landscape into an unworldly dream.
It takes a couple of hours to return to the valley where Peri and Dwal were ambushed by goblins. This morning, all is quiet. You soon find the old path running through the stunted, scrubby oak up the hill to the clearing. The boulder-strewn ruins are bleak and empty. Gerrard spots the cave opening where he was briefly held prisoner. A trio of crows chase a hawk overhead.
"Looks like we are here. Should we just approach and ready the rope, or does someone want to go ahead and check it out first? I'm afraid in this armor I am not particularly quiet," admits Gerrard, though it looks like he is ready to continue walking all the way to the cave entrance unless someone speaks up.

((OOC: I misunderstood Kei's disguise; I thought he was putting on a disguise he was wearing when the group met him last night. Peri shouldn't have recognized him. The ale must have granted him special insight.))
Since Gerrard seems to accept the stranger, Peri figures they must have been on the same side in whatever fighting went down the previous night. It occurs to him that he doesn't have any new scars or bruises, and while his head is aching, it's of the hangover and not the trauma variety. They must have acquitted themselves pretty well, he thinks; no telling how many rivals are visiting the healers this morning. A good night's carousing all around, then! This leaves him feeling friendly toward the stranger, and as the man doesn't look too roughed up he must be a pretty decent hand in a fight. "Pleased to see you again, Master Keith!" he says with his best approximation of a courtly bow. He immediately regrets the gesture as it makes his head swim, which causes his large breakfast to roll over and nearly make an escape attempt, and he thinks he may have flashed anyone behind him. Maybe a curtsey would be more appropriate in this thing. "Will you be lookin' for our wayward friend while we're away? There's an intriguing stain on the floor of his room; perhaps you can apply your investigative skills there. Or, if you're feelin' more adventurous, we're on our way out to probe a goblin hole. No, don't look so shocked; it's not like that! We left a goblin chieftain at the bottom of a hole he fell into, and when we went back to check on him he'd disappeared. That goblin hole is fishy, and we mean to poke around in there to see what we can find."

(Sorry if I jumped the gun! I also missed Gerrard's post about pitons - sorry about that! Let me know if there was any other unfinished business.)
Dwal's pseudodragon, Bjorn, is the size of a large bird, but with an impressive wingspan and a barbed tail. It spends much of its time wheeling overhead or hunting small prey. Right now, however, it is perched on Dwal's shoulder.
Without investigating more closely, there are no visible signs of the ogre's or worg's bodies from your path. Were they eaten or dragged away?
You seem to be above the fog, here on this rocky summit- the sky is still brightly overcast, but here you feel like you are on an island in an ocean of clouds.
Peri quietly approaches the edge of Toktok's hole. The uneven floor is about fifteen feet down. The entrance is a narrow slot - easily traversed by a halfling, but a bit of a squeeze for bigger folk. Not exactly something a goblin would have accidentally fallen into, but perhaps a desperate hiding place one might squeeze into when chased by an angry ogre. The floor - probably a massive slab of stone like the one on the surface, is covered in a heap of dirt and pebbles and mulched leaves directly below the awkward, slotted opening, probably debris which has drifted through the crack over years or centuries.
All is quiet below. No signs of life, nor of Toktok.
