With the door open, Gerrard steps up alongside Boko and draws his Main Gauche, peering into the hallway lit only by his blade. “Perhaps we could use some other sources of light,” says the young noble, keeping an eye out for any Spectres…

"Told you there was nothing in there!" He says triumphantly to Peri. Without much light he can barely see the junction deep in the hallway. "I can send light down the entire hall if it's of help. Or do we want the element of surprise on our side?"
Gerrard steps forward and peers around the corners. The coast looks clear - no specters. He can dimly see that the northern corridor may turn left, and the southern corridor opens up to some kind of intersection, but it's hard to see clearly.
Just to his south, a large and dangerous slab of the ceiling has recently fallen and shattered on the floor in the middle of the corridor. (Not currently depicted on map.)
"I don't think we're gonna find anything down here that can be snuck up on. Especially not after all the racket that corpse thing made, and the sounds of crushin' those skeletons. You might as well light things up." Since nothing has leapt out to grab Kei, Peri decides it's safe enough to have a gander. He goes to the intersection and looks down each branch, using his Eldritch Sight to look for any magical traps.
Peri steps forward next, seeing clearly through the darkness to both ends of the hallway.
His Eldritch Sight picks up a square of illusion, about six feet across, at the north end of the hallway. It has the same signature as the magic he detected earlier through the wall of the cellar.
To the south, past the chunks of ceiling and a hallway intersection, he can see the glint of treasure from an open chest, protruding from an alcove in the wall of an open chamber.
Gerrard can see none of this, as he squints into the gloom. There are no signs of the specters, nor of any other movement.
At Peri's suggestion Kei conjures up four glowing orbs. He sends them down the hall - 2 in the main hall and 1 each north and south. The two individual orbs settling about 20ft from Gerrard in the hopes of illuminating a greater area for both the normally sighted party members.
He squeezes past both Gerrard and Peri to stand in the alcove at the end of the hall. "Um, what with Bokodog's size, shouldn't we let her go offleash down the hall first?"
Shrugging, Gerrard says, “Works for me,” nodding and gesturing for Boko to take the lead if she wishes. “Thanks for the light, Master Kei” he adds, smiling at Kei.

Better not point out the treasure pile to Kei, at least until we've cleared the rest of the place out. "The illusion magic I sensed from the main room is right down there, takin' up most of the bend in the tunnel. Since it looks like there's nothin' there, it must be either a pit trap or it's hidin' some sorta monster. We can give it a count of three and everybody blasts it, see what happens?"
Boko the direwolf chuffs, a resonant, massive movement of air from the minor exhalation blowing past the group. It's some sort of agreement. The huge wolf begins sniffing and slowly paces forward.

Boko pushes through the others and trots north, to the edge of the area Peri indicated, now lit better by Kei. Kei can see it also – a subtle shimmering on the floor – but the rest of you, including Boko, see nothing but ordinary floor. The square covers most of the intersection, at least according to Peri and Kei. To get around the corner, you'll need to shimmy along the wall, or jump it.
Just then, a ghostly arm pops through the corner of the wall, reaching out towards Boko. Specter stealth vs. Boko passive perception (17): 6 The rest of you are too far away (and the specter has too much cover) for you to immediately react.
Initiative: Boko: 21 Specter: 22 (the rest of you are auto-surprised; we'll roll initiative for you next round if this lasts another round.)
Boko sees the ghostly arm coming, but only at the last moment. She is unable to react in time to stop it.
Specter: Life Drain Attack vs. Boko: 5 Hit: 13 necrotic damage (and Boko must succeed on a DC 10 CON save or her hit point maximum is reduced by an amount equal to the damage taken.)
Missing badly the silent spirit immediately ducks around the corner and out of sight to the northwest.
Boko may get an opportunity attack as it retreats.

Bokowolf lunges at the retreating spirit. Bite Attack: 29. Hit: 9 piercing damage (and must succeed on a DC 13 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone.)
Specter STR check: 2
Even though it is incorporeal, Boko manages not only to maul it fairly severely, but to knock it onto the floor. Nevertheless, it quickly picks itself up and disappears through (literally through) a door that Boko sees around the corner.

The huge wolf jumps diagonally to the NW, across the area flagged as illusory, trying to get closer to where the ghost went. She again readies an attack for any ghost she sees.
Bokowolf hops over the area she's been warned about, and finds herself at the end of the corridor, facing a closed door, which she just managed to glimpse the specter passing effortlessly through. Boko also notices a thin wire, hidden along the edge of the frame, connecting the door handle to a latch on the ceiling overhead.
Meanwhile, Gerrard guards their southern flank.
The specter, seriously torn up by Bokowolf's attack, is nowhere to be seen.
Calling out to Dwal, Gerrard says, "The spectre just headed west out of my view--it may come through the wall near you, Brother Fiercehammer."
If nothing happens for a few moments, he adds to the group at large, "I can guard our flank, but someone may want to go help Mistress Boko in case opposable thumbs are needed to our north..."

"Okay, I can help. But first just let me..." He ducks back into the last room and grabs a skeletal minotaur hand. He hurries back to the edge of the illusory area, squats down, and tosses the hand into the area. Assuming there's a pit there -- since nothing leapt out to grab Boko -- he listens to hear how far the bones fall, and if there's a splash or a burst of fire or some other nasty surprise.
(Combat ends again as the specters do not reappear.)
Peri fetches an oversized skeletal hand, and drops it onto the illusory floor. As predicted, it passes straight through, splashing some feet below in a pool of standing liquid of some sort. After a moment, you can hear it bubbling, as if reacting to the liquid. Soon, you realize you can see through it, too – a pit indeed lies below, some ten feet deep. A sour smell begins to fill the air as you watch the bones slowly dissolve below. Slick slime and moss grow along the sides of the pit.
"Shortstop, what did you find, some big skeleton glove?" Kei's questions the halfling as he approaches. "Did I ever tell you about my cousin Brad? He fell in a hole like this. You'll never guess what we called him after that?" He rambles as he surveys the scene.
Reaching into the folds of his robe he pulls forth a long slender strip. "Watch out!" He places it on the ground. As his fingers leave the patch it grows into a 24ft ladder. "Here, help me with this." He beckons Peri to help him bridge the gap over the pit. "Boko, put your foot on that end".
Boko stays in wolf form and watches for any more ghostly activity. When she discovers the thin wire, her snout darts right to it, nose sniffing without touching it. When Kei makes his request, her ears go back to listen, and then one giant back paw reaches out without looking to step on the other side of the ladder. Her eyes are looking around for more threats or activity, but her nose stays right next to the wire.
