Peri:
Dammit, he thinks, that's the kinda response Kei would give if he was still charmed, or if he was plannin' on killin' the damned vampire.
"An' tryin' ta save children from tha clutches of a blood suckin' fiend?" Qivys asks. "That don't rate as any type of reward?" Qivys pauses then says. "There's more ta life than fillin' yer belly an' pockets. I just hope ya learn that 'for ya go walkin' inta tha next world."
He scowls at Qivys. Already annoyed -- worried, in fact, if was being honest about his feelings -- with Kei's possible enchantment, being lectured by a puffed-up dwarf didn't help brighten his spirits. "Someday soon, dwarf, when we're not puttin' out the world's fires, we're gonna have it out over that condescendin' attitude of yours. In the meantime, I suggest you keep a tight clutch on those pearls of wisdom and stop droppin' 'em on us unappreciative swine."He climbs into saddle and sets out. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
When Gerrard begins trotting his horse directly toward the commotion Peri groans and slips out of the saddle. Won't catch me sittin' up on top of this beast like a target on a post. 'Course the nobleman might know what he's doin' fightin' from the saddle. He follows along behind Gerrard as quietly as he can. ((Stealth: 13; Perception: 12))
It is twilight. A desolate scrubby moor studded with leafless thickets of stunted trees transitions into a thin, tangled, thorny forest. A thin layer of icy snow clings to everything. The river you've been following upstream for the past two days has dwindled to a narrow, icy brook that plunges out of the thick undergrowth of the woods ahead.
Gerrard feels the voice you hear sounds like a human or humanoid in trouble, like panic. Seeing neither traps nor tricks, he proceeds ahead in a brisk trot, into the edge of the thin forest.
Qivys scans his surroundings but spies no threats.
Peri follows Gerrard on foot, but finds little to conceal himself at the edge of the scrubby moor.
Gerard and Peri see it first: A human man in a tree, some fifty feet ahead, holding off five massive black spiders – ten feet long or more – with a torch and a dagger. He is dressed in a simple traveler's garb.
"Hey!" the man shouts, spotting Gerrard. "Hey! Help!" He waves urgently. The spiders turn and appear to perceive the approaching party.

"Get it get it get it..." mutters Lankus nervously as he pulls out a heavy crossbow from atop his mount, and fires a bolt at the leftmost one (#1).
Lankus Heavy Crossbow Attack vs. Spider #1: Attack: 8. Hit: 8 piercing damage.
The spiders advance aggressively on the newcomers:
Spider #1: Web (Ranged Weapon Attack) vs. Gerrard's horse: 19. Hit: Gerrard's horse is restrained by webbing. Spider #2: Web (Ranged Weapon Attack) vs. Gerrard: 6. Hit: Gerrard is restrained by webbing. Spider #3: Dashes toward the party Spider #4: Web (Ranged Weapon Attack) vs. guy in tree: 14. Hit: Guy is restrained by webbing Spider #5 Web (Long-Ranged Weapon Attack) vs. Gerrard: 12. Hit: Gerrard is restrained by webbing.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Lankus sinks a bolt deep into the charging spider, but it is far from down.
The man in the tree is restrained by the thick webs. Gerrard manages to evade the webs shot at him, but his horse is not so lucky. It whinnies and bucks in terror as it tries to break free.
Springing off his horse as he avoids the incoming webs, Gerrard looks back at Erik and hopes the horse can break itself free. Drawing his blades as he approaches the spider who webbed his horse, Gerrard calls, "I will hold them here while you guys pick them off!"
Outnumbered, Gerrard takes up a defensive stance as he engages spider #1, dodging as best he can but looking for an opening to strike.
Dodge with expectation to use Riposte on the first attack to miss him.
Riposte Attack: Attack: 25 Damage: 12

Gerrard Feldren - Human Noble in Ghosts of Saltmarsh
Kerric Brightblade - Elven Warrior in "Apocalypse"
There goes our noble leader, headlong into danger. Again. Kei watches as Gerrard dashes towards danger as usual. Once again it comes down to the bard to even the playing field to try and keep the groups nobleman safe. He instinctively pulls a card from his deck. Throwing the tattered card towards the engaged spiders it flips and turns through the air. The ones paying close attention would see a picture of a solitary bearded man moving and twisting on the cards face. The Hermit. As the card hits the icy ground time seems to come to a standstill around spiders #1-3 & 5.
(Wis Save 15)
"If the spell takes, don't fear repercussions of moving!" He shouts at Gerrard who's face to face with a targeted spider.
Arvoreen's Arms, there he goes again! Peri thinks as Gerrard plows headlong into danger. Half-tempted to leave the traveler -- And who would be travelin' alone out here, far from any road? -- to his fate and quietly slip past, his more noble-minded companions have eliminated that possibility. Thought of waiting in the tunnel while the sahuagin tortured Borgas bring a flush of guilt and he has to admit he doesn't entirely object to someone taking difficult decisions out of his hands. With a whoop he leaps forward to stand alongside the nobleman. He summons forth his Astral Arms, which whip out from his shoulders like a pair of bosun's lashes, striking at the nearest spiders.
((BA = 1 Ki to summon Arms of the Astral Self: Spider #1 and #3 need to make a DC14 DEX save or take 3 force damage. A = Attacks against #1 until it falls, then #3. Unarmed Strike #1: 15 for 8 force; #2: 18 for 5 force))
(Boko would have happily taken the spear +1 if it was really unwanted! She has a quarterstaff that she uses for monk melee when she's not slinging spells or wildshaping, but a magic spear is smart for her to take. She's got tattoos that count as magic weapons when she wildshapes or uses unarmed combat.)
Boko looks the others and says, "mind the horses, they will not like this idea."She jumps off her own and closes her eyes, and her form shifts. Dramatically. Bending the laws of physics, she wildshapes into a black giant scorpion with navy blue, faintly glowing geometric patterns on the claws and tail. It has odd little goggles on its eyes, more for flavor than utility. It takes off, impossibly fast (50 feet of movement, with her +10 unarmored movement and its natural 40ft speed) and, next to Gerrard. That's bonus action and movement, and then assuming she's within range, she targets spider 1.
Claw Attack: 23 Damage: 6 Claw Attack: 14 Damage: 11 Sting Attack: 6 Damage: 8 and 20 poison damage on a failed CON 12 save
Boko-Scorpion clatters forward over the snow, tearing the first spider to shreds, and shredding two legs off the one next to it.
The loose horses rear in panic. The restrained horse bucks from the webbing. DC12 STR check: 20
Lankus circles right and releases a second bolt at the slowed spider furthest right. Lankus: Heavy Crossbow Attack vs. Spider #5: 16. Hit: 5 piercing damage.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Spider #2, wounded, launches itself upon Boko-Scorpion. Melee Bite Attack: 9. Hit: 11 piercing damage, and Boko-Scorpion must make a DC 11 CON save, or take3 poison damage.
Spider #5 begins a slow-motion charge toward Lankus, but finds it is too slow to reach him.

Peri:
Peri flinches as an enormous scorpion barrels up beside Gerrard, before recognizing the tattoo pattern on its claws as it shears the wounded spider in two. Figuring she and Gerrard have the other spider well in hand, he scurries around behind them to take on the one charging Lankus and their horses. His astral arms crash down onto its body in rapid succession. Attack #1: 21 for 5 force damage Attack #2: 12 for 8 force damage Flurry #1: 12 for 7 force damage Flurry #2: 16 for 9 force damage
If his attacks manage to kill the beast he will turn to watch the man in the tree. Curious that bug didn't kill him while he was tied up... Insight at Advantage from Astral Self: 25
