With Farley staring on blankly, Seth chops a finger off the bald bandit and throws it in his pack as a souvenir. Wide-eyed and full of adrenalin, he announces, "The Saltmarsh Town Guard wins again!"
Peri's original torch was batted away out-of-sight, so he finds another torch to Mage Hand over to the hobgoblin's remains. The cavern the hobgoblin is in is already well-lit, but this hallway, now two torches short is starting to become dim. This time, however, nobody bats the torch away.
"Come in! Come in! Don't be shy," says the voice. "You have battled well! I shall not harm you."
Missy makes a face as Seth chops off a dead guys finger and just throws it into his pack. Hes only newly dead, that finger would still bleed surely? Dosen't he care that hes going to get blood on everything?
Then the voice calls out again. Absently Missy pats Dwal on the shoulder in thanks as she curiously makes her way closer, trying to get a look at the speaker.
Missy advances down the sloping hallway to the bodies of the two attackers, to the furthest position Peri had taken. She sees into the cavern to the east - the casks, a bit of cloth, the hobgoblin's smoking remains. Stepping into partial view on the right, from behind the casks, is a tall man with a shaved head and piercing green eyes. Also sliding partially into view on the left is a massive, red, scaled, clawed foot.
"I see you, young tiefling. Sanbalet shall not harm you. Honor me with your audience. We shall talk."
Missy tilts her head to the side and glances at the Sanbslerlt guy. "Talk about what?"Before her curiosity has her eyes sliding back to foot and she starts making her way closer to it.
"Ah! The Saltmarsh town guard badge! Sanbalet is honored to be visited by our fine constabulary. Although I hear they don't pay very well?"
You step a little further into the room. Sanbalet stands to the right, behind a row of casks. A large, scarlet-scaled dragon-like creature is curled up on the left, its eyes dancing with flame; its beaked snout venting smoke.
"Would you care for a glass of brandy? These miserable thieves had been stealing from it quite liberally. Sanbalet thanks you for dispatching them."

Missy
"Hmm."Missy replies absently, studying the creature but turning her body towards the speaker, if not her head. "Did they steal you too?" Whether she's asking the creature or the man is debatable. Then she seems to register his words and shakes her head "I'm good, thanks."
It appears to be a young red dragon, a legendary evil creature. It's glossy red scales and bright eyes suggest it is young, but its smoking snout and angry eyes suggest it is extremely dangerous.
"I am quite interested in that bit of magic one of you did to my hobgoblin employee here. Was that you, or one of your comrades? Quite well done! May I ask how that was done?"
"Speaking of your comrades, invite them in! I won't bite. Nor will my dragon."
Missy turns to face Sanbalet, idly curious about his sudden change from speaking in third person to first, and shrugs. "I don't know, wasn't me, can't help you there. And of course your dragon won't bite." She gives him a knowing smile.
Sanbalet looks crestfallen that you can't explain Qivys' magical bolt of energy. "Oh, that's too bad." You can't tell if he's honest, playacting, or sarcastic.
"In any case, you and your associates made quick work of these bumbling morons. I didn't know the Guard employed so many pupils of the arcane. May I ask your area of study? I see you have no obvious weapons nor armor. Sanbalet, too, is a dedicated scholar of the arcane."
Peri will quietly follow behind Missy, careful not to disrupt her conversation with the wizard. While he does he will move the torch over as if to get a better look at the dragon, and "accidentally" bump it - very slightly - against the dragon. He has a suspicion that a low-level gangster is unlikely to have enthralled a dragon, but he doesn't want to let on to Sanbalet.
"Why, hello there, little one." He says to Peri. "Sanbalet means you no harm. I was just congratulating your guardsman friend here on your impressive combat abilities. And yet, you do not look like traditional warriors. And you, my halfling friend - you are not wearing the mark of the Saltmarsh guard, I notice."
"I was just expressing my curiosity about the bit of magic you used to vaporize my hobgoblin underling, here. As I was saying, I am a scholar of the arcane, myself."
Sanbalet speaks a few words and makes a gesture. Several glowing orbs of light briefly spring from his fingers into the air, producing an unearthly glow. The light show quickly ends.
Peri's torch intersects slightly with the dragon. It's an illusion.

Peri:
"Alas, I've no magic of my own. That was the work of the Guard's resident wizard, Butter. He's around the corner, no doubt vaporizing whoever else is down here. But I'm just a hired sword; it's really the guardswoman here you should be talking to. She'll decide whether we take you back to town, or just your head."
As he's talking Peri edges just inside the entrance and a bit to the right, to leave the opening clear for the rest of the party. He'll also study the cavern to try to see if any others are hidden by the wizard's illusion. Perception9
Peri visually examines the room, but sees nothing but natural stone. This cavern, like the passage leading to it, is well lit by torches held in simple iron brackets around the walls. You can see five small bolts of cloth stacked against the wall to the north, and to the south are eight small casks in a neat row. Sanbalet stand behind them. His "dragon" is curled up on the opposite side of the room.
Sanbalet studies Peri for a moment. "I see. Do invite this Butter in. Invite them all in. Sanbalet has a business proposition for you."
Blood boiling at the sound of Sanbalets voice, Qiv will walk out last - behind the other guards - hoping Sanbalet will not notice or remember his face. He must not let his anger rule his actions. This proposal might let me get closer to him, close enough to exact my revenge. At that thought the same feeling from earlier shoots through his body. What is this feeling? Why does it react to my thoughts.
An image of the White Stag flashes through his mind. It stops mid stride and turns. Qiv can now see an image of himself standing next the Stag. It nuzzles his shoulder.
The image disappears from his mind, leaving a sense of serenity. You are the one guiding this power within me. Very well, I shall follow your path. At least for now.The last thought for himself.

In an explosion of movement, Seth storms in hot, his sword up, his eyes ablaze. Farley follows him, looking nervous. Butter is slowly making his way up the hallway, having a long sip from his flask and reloading his crossbow.
"Welcome!" booms Sanbalet.
Barely pausing to eye the scene, Seth hollers and charges the "dragon" with his longsword.
Let's roll initiative, as Seth is initiating a combat of sorts.

Dwal
Dwal will stay back and not enter. "Something does not feel right" he thinks to himself.
He mutters a short prayer to Moradin.
